Hosted services are cheaper than building services in house, they require no development time and no maintenance. Not you don\’t have to worry about updates from Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox. The service provider takes care of those!
Hosted services are much less expensive, they require no development time and ZERO MAINTENANCE. So next time Firefox, Chrome or *cough* Internet Explorer releases another update, it\’s someone else\’s problem to bring the service \’up to code\’.
Instead of re-inventing the wheel, check out my favorites:
1.) Sliderocket (Online Presentation Tool)
Present like a professional with Sliderocket! If you\’re currently using powerpoint or keynote for pitches, DON\’T! Sliderocket is a web based presentation tool that allows you to create presentations from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and immediately share them with co-workers and clients. And the best part? They have an iPad application. That means you can build a presentation, bring your iPad to a meeting and present without messing with a laptop! This is a game-changer. You can plug your iPad directly into a projector using a dongle.
2.) Mailchimp (Email Marketing Made Easy)
Are you currently using email marketing? Well, you should be! Mailchimp is an incredibly simple tool for creating and managing your email marketing. You can import contacts from anywhere, manage campaigns and more. Mailchimp also provides great analytics for tracking opens and custom sign-up registration forms. Email marketing is an essential strategy and Mailchimp is the perfect way to get started.
3.) Squarespace (Website Host and Builder)
Don\’t have a website yet and have little technical skills? Squarespace is here! For $10 a month, Squarespace provides excellent templates and an easy building process to get your site up and running in a few minutes. Beyond the templates, Squarespace has plug-ins for contact forms, social media and more. They also have a great iPhone app and analytics.
4.) Vimeo (Excellent YouTube Alternative)
Vimeo does a few things incredibly well. First, they allow quality HD video. Next, they provide great flexibility in how you distribute them including: passwords, unique embed settings, analytics and more. One of the big negatives is that Vimeo will toss your video in a \’queue\’ before it appears on the website. So you\’ll need to wait 30 minutes before you can promote your video unless you\’re willing to pay $10/month for a premium account.
*disclaimer (you should use YouTube as well for Search Engine Optimization)
5.) Dropcanvas (Large File Sharing)
I just started using Dropcanvas, but it\’s great! It\’s the easiest way to share large files online. The best part? It\’s free! Just drag a file onto the canvas. That\’s it! No ads, no spam.
