A town in Utah has elected their new mayor in a rather unusual way. They pulled a name out of a wicker basket. After their current Mayor resigned because of three DUI’s, it was up to the city council to vote in a new mayor. After two tied votes, the council put the two candidates names in a basket and blindly pulled out a name. Congratulations, retired Sheriff Ed Chavez Jr, on your new position as mayor of Helper, Utah! Gerald Ford, the patron saint of unelected politicians, is smiling down on you, I’m sure.
