2013 White House Tribal Nations Conference: Promoting Prosperous, Resilient Tribal Nations

Ed. note: This is cross-posted from the Department of the Interior. See the original post here.

Yesterday I had the tremendous honor of welcoming leaders invited from all 566 federally recognized tribes to the 2013 White House Tribal Nations Conference. The event included participation from President Obama, thirteen Cabinet members, and dozens of senior Administration officials.

The White House Tribal National Conference – the fifth of the Obama Administration – is an opportunity to connect tribal leaders across the country directly with President Obama and his Administration as we work together toward tribal self-determination and self-governance. In , the President said, “That’s what we’re called to do – to keep strong the covenant between us – for this and future generations.”

For Interior, the event highlighted the work we are doing on a number of issues – including a top priority of restoring tribal homelands. Placing land into trust secures these homelands for tribes, which in turn facilitates economic development and promotes health and welfare of tribal communities.

That’s why yesterday I announced that the Administration has set an ambitious goal of placing more than 500,000 acres of land into trust by the end of the President’s term. Already, the Bureau of Indian Affairs has processed more than 1,400 individual land into trust applications since 2009, accepting more than 230,000 acres in trust on behalf of tribes, so we are well on our way to meet this new ambitious goal. That type of progress is unprecedented in modern times, and we’re committed to continuing that momentum.

Meetings continue today for members of the White House Council on Native American Affairs and other high-ranking Administration officials who are participating in listening sessions with tribal leaders on a wide range of social and economic challenges facing Indian Country.

I look forward to building on the progress we have made to promote prosperous and resilient tribal nations and to upholding President Obama’s commitment to a strong government-to-government relationship with tribal nations.

Conn. House Speaker: Video Game Makers Must Stop Promoting Guns

Connecticut’s State House Speaker is urging the video game industry to end all licensing and product placement agreements with arms manufacturers, saying the deals are “nefarious” and may have contributed to the Newtown school massacre.

“The industry practice of video game publishers entering into licensing, marketing, or other financial arrangements to feature real guns in their games blurs the lines between fiction and reality in ways that can have tragic consequences,” wrote Speaker Brendan Sharkey in a letter to three video game company executives and the Entertainment Software Association.

“Games designed to recreate the experience of wartime carnage and criminal violence constitute protected speech under the provisions of the First Amendment,” Sharkey wrote.

“But there is little to be said in defense of an industry-wide practice of arranging licensing deals with gun manufacturers for the rights to use the make, model and visual design specifications of their real-life weapons.”

Twenty first-graders and six teachers were killed in the December massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Gunman Adam Lanza, who also killed his mother in the rampage, used a Bushmaster AR-15 semiautomatic rifle which had been featured in a video game he played, said Sharkey.

Promoting the American Dream of Homeownership

Ed. note: On Wednesday, August 7th at 1:00 p.m. ET, the President is answering questions submitted by homeowners, renters, and prospective buyers in a conversation with Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff. Find out how you can ask a question here.

Today, I joined President Obama in visiting Phoenix, where he laid out his vision for a housing system that promotes the American dream of homeownership.

For years, owning a home was a symbol of responsibility and a source of security for millions of middle-class families across the country. But the financial crisis in 2008 put that all at risk, and by the time President Obama took office, the housing market was in free fall. Home values were plummeting and foreclosures were at record highs.

This Administration immediately took a number of steps to heal the market that helped millions of Americans stay in their homes, save money on their mortgages and turn their communities around.

Today, the market is coming back. Thanks to reforms of the financial system that cracked down on the most reckless practices that led to the housing crisis, responsible Americans can feel more confident and secure when they borrow money to purchase their own home.

But, as President Obama made clear today, there is more work to do. It’s time to turn the page on an era of housing bubbles and taxpayer bailouts, and build a new housing finance system that will provide secure homeownership for responsible middle class families.

We see this as critically important, not only because housing and home ownership are one of the bedrock cornerstones of the middle class – but also because it is so connected to the other ones.  How do most families pay for their kids to go to college, to start small businesses, to save for retirement? It’s through the savings in their homes.  If we can’t protect American families from this kind of crisis again, if we can’t build safe, stable investment in housing and home ownership, we also cut out the rungs in the ladder to opportunity for so many families in other areas as well.

First, there are steps we can take right now that could help immediately strengthen the housing market and make sure that no homeowners or communities are left behind by the housing recovery. This includes helping more responsible homeowners save money by refinancing their mortgages, cutting red tape so responsible families can get a mortgage, helping hard-hit communities rebuild, and preserving access to affordable rental housing

Second, President Obama put forward a plan to reform the housing finance system, centered on four core principles:

  • Put private capital at the center of the housing finance system.

  • End Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s failed business model so taxpayers are never again on the hook for bad loans and bailouts.

  • Ensure widespread access to safe and responsible mortgages like the 30-year fixed rate mortgage in good and bad economic times.

  • Support affordability and access to homeownership for creditworthy first-time buyers and access to affordable rental housing for middle class families and those aspiring to be.

Third, because buying a home is one of the most important decisions middle-class families make, there is more we can do to make sure that process is safe, sustainable and easy to understand. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has already taken a number of steps to this end, and President Obama is calling on the CFPB to finish a simplified mortgage disclosure form, which highlights the key facts any potential homeowner should know before they take out a mortgage in three pages or less.

Finally, Congress must move quickly to confirm Mel Watt, President Obama’s pick for Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to transition toward a safe and sound future housing finance system.

By taking these and other steps outlined in the President’s plan, we can finally put an end to the practices that got our country into this mess. As a result, we will grow our economy and give the middle class – and all those working hard to get there – a better bargain for generations to come.

Easy ideas for Web Based Marketing

Marketing ideas for digital marketing experts

When anyone approach digital marketing, there are a small number of ideas for using daily.

What\’s marketing? Is there any difference between an Online Marketing Expert and a Digital Promoting Consultant? Is the Promoting Mix a combi of tools for doing selling that none should change?

Here we\’ll start a series for knowing them and using these words correctly.

Marketing:

Selling is a science with one objective: to recognise and satisfy the requirements of the clients. Promoting doesn"t incite purchasing, but identifies what folk need and offer the right product for this need. Marketing helps people to find what they are trying to find and never should suggest to buy anything unattractive by the customer or customer.

Price can be changed, product can be improved, placement can be modified and promotion, of course, is under our control.

Promoting has a base in long term relations and confidence between client and seller.

Marketing Mix:

Sales Mix are the 4 elements that belong to the marketing: Product, Price, Promotion and Placement, also known as \”The Four Ps\”.

These elements can be altered by the Promoting Consultant and, so on , by the Digital Selling Consultant. SEO is an example.

Digital Marketing:

Digital Promoting, Web Based Promoting, Web marketing and Web Marketing are commonly used as synonyms.

In fact , Digital marketing implies all digital devices, not just Internet or internet based ones. In this sense, Online Marketing, Web Selling and Digital Promoting are true synonyms, talking about selling developed through the web.

Digital selling is the promoting developed with digital devices, also networks, but by example, mobiles as well. It generally involves everything around \”digital\” idea.

Digital Promoting Consultant:

Digital marketing advisor is, or at the very least should be, a certified pro for developing marketing activities in the electronic world. Digital Marketing consultants should have a solid marketing basis and deep awareness of Net and Digital devices for planning and develop selling methods.

It"s not needed to know lots of informatics, but a bit for resolving minor troubles by personally.
