Sean Lien launches Taipei mayoral bid

By Queena Yen ,The China Post

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Kuomintang (KMT) Central Committee member Sean Lien (連勝文) officially announced his intent to run for Taipei City mayor at Jiancheng Circle (建成圓環) yesterday.

Lien emphasized that with his past experience as a financial and human resources expert, he believes he can benefit Taipei City. Lien said he not only aims to revitalize industry and commerce but also to create more employment opportunities in the capital.

Lien also proposes to balance the development of different districts, and he emphasized his hope to revive the past glory of the West district.

In addition, Lien hopes to become the first “mayor of charity,” promising to donate his salary to worthy charitable organizations if he wins the election.

Responding to criticism that he is from the upper class and will have little understanding of how most people think, Lien said that he cannot control his family background, but he can decide what kind of person he wants to be.

Lien said his decision to participate in the mayoral election is a fresh start for him since the past three years have been the darkest period in his life. Since the failed attempt on his life in November 2010, Lien has asked himself about the meaning behind his survival.

“It is because of the suffering that I felt that it is time for me to take on more responsibilities and do something more to give back to this society,” said Lien.

Lien also received his health examination report before he announced his candidacy for the mayoral election.

“I have to make sure that my health is perfectly well in order to take on the responsibility of Taipei City mayor. This is also the reason why I announced my participation so late,” said Lien.

Sean Hannity Top Speaker at Tea Party"s Fifth Anniversary Bash

Fox News host Sean Hannity will be the keynote speaker at a major tea party event in Washington next week to celebrate the conservative movement’s fifth anniversary.

Hannity, who has been a fierce supporter of the movement since its inception in 2009, will give a capstone speech at the event being staged by the Tea Party Patriots, according to Breibart.

Other guests at the Capitol Hill Hyatt Regency function on Feb. 27 will include Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Ted Cruz of Texas, as well as conservative radio host Mark Levin.

Reps. Michele Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, Jim Jordan, Steve King, Jim Bridenstine, Mark Meadows, and Matt Salmon have also confirmed they will be attending, according to Politico.

“Sean Hannity, who joined us in Atlanta in 2009 for the first round of Tax Day Tea Parties, has been a proud and outspoken supporter of the tea party movement and championed the cause of constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty,” said Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of Tea Party Patriots.

“His refusal to abandon principle in favor of party subservience has been welcome respite from pundits and policymakers who cave easily in the face of adversity.”

The birth of tea party movement is credited to a statement by CNBC’s Rick Santelli on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in 2009.

Santelli was ranting, as he is known to do, about the homeowner bailout that was being proposed by the Obama administration.

“We’re thinking of having a Chicago tea party in July,” Santelli said. “All you capitalists that want to show up to Lake Michigan, I’m going to start organizing.”

On Thursday, the Huffington Post revealed that Hannity had solicited donations for the Tea Party Patriots in a fundraising email sent Wednesday morning by the conservative organization.

Hannity’s political fund drive contradicts Fox News’ previous attempts to prevent the host from raising money for the group, Politico reported.

But a Fox spokesperson told TV Newser that Hannity’s involvement with the tea party organization for his radio show, and has nothing to do with his Fox TV show or his role with the network.

Sean Hannity, Brent Bozell Flunk Chris Matthews for Failing to Ask the President Tough Obamacare Questions

On Thursday night’s Media Mash on Fox News Channel, Sean Hannity and MRC president Brent Bozell were quick off the mark, denouncing Chris Matthews for failing to press Barack Obama about the broken promises and lies of Obamacare.

Both men lined up questions they would have asked. “Let’s say little old Sean Hannity gets to interview the president. What, at this moment, you have an audience of kids, what are the main questions that you think, that you would ask the president?” (Video, transcript below)

HANNITY:  I’ll give you my list off the top. What do you say to those people you promised if they liked their plan, they keep their plan, but lost their plan? What do you say to those people who liked their doctor, lost their doctor, when you said they can keep their doctor? What do you say to those people, those families that you promised would save on average $ 2500 per family per year? What do you say to the country about you said it would be $ 900 billion and now it’s $ 2.7-or-8 trillion. Did you know that people wouldn’t be able to keep their plan, but say it anyway? Were those questions asked, Brent Bozell? No. What other questions?

BOZELL: No, no, another one. How about just asking the question, Mr. President, just yesterday you spoke to a national audience and you lied. You said the republicans have no [health] plans. The Republicans have been putting out one plan after another since 2009. It was just sheerly dishonest. No, Chris Matthews is not going to ask him any serious questions. What is going on here is the president is now in full community organizer mode. You are seeing it with the chest thumping rhetoric, you’re seeing it with the ugly accusations, you’re seeing it with the lying. And he’s looking for the most comfortable venue that will be most sympathetic to him, and that’s why he’s on MSNBC with Chris Matthews.

HANNITY: Frankly, Noah Rothman over at Mediaite had a good line. I think it’s a desperate move by the president to do this, and frankly, fairly pathetic, because I don’t think he can answer [tough Obamacare] questions in a way that would be credible to the American people.

Scott Whitlock reported that on a show still mysteriously called “Hardball,” sympathetic Matthews could only ask Obama about how he would like to encourage the twentysomethings to sign up:

MATTHEWS: You have a great audience here of– college age– people and some graduate students and faculty. There’s some resistance out there among young people– We’ve seen it in the polls– to, to enrolling in the– in the exchanges and to get involved in taking responsibility for their health care. What’s your argument why they should do that?

After listing their questions, Hannity turned to a funny clip of Matthews trying to say Obamacare is a great theme, but the president had bad spelling and handwriting on it:

MATTHEWS: I think I would compare it [the ObamaCare fiasco], Andrea, to a brilliant writer, perhaps, with a great theme who turns in a paper with a lot of misspellings, or bad handwriting. It’s a bad way to roll out something. With all the great strengths, potentially, of a national health care system along these lines, the way it was rolled out has hurt it. It hurt its reputation. It’s given the other side a lot of talking points to use against the President generally in terms of his competence.

Hannity called that “hero worship.” Bozell just tried to keep from laughing through an answer:

BOZELL: When they’re down to this, it’s time to punt the ball and go to something else! When you’re going to [laughs] — when you’re going to say the reason Obamacare isn’t working, bad handwriting! [Laughs] . I mean, you’ve to say, you’ve run out of excuses here! It’s time to move on to another subject. This isn’t selling, but again, in community organizer mode, you go to your  base and try to mobilize your base. The minority base. That’s what he’s down to. It is panic mode for this administration.

Sean Hannity To Dem Rep: "Cut The Crap And Stop Lying" About Obamacare Subsidies (VIDEO)

A discussion between Fox News host Sean Hannity and Reps. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) and Matt Salmon (R-AZ) on employer contributions to congressional staff’s health care plans quickly devolved into a shouting match Thursday.

Pascrell argued that members of Congress don’t get a special subsidy, comparing the employer contribution to congressional staff’s health care plans to contributions given to employees of other companies and federal agencies. Salmon then said he had given up his employer contribution because he thinks Congress should “live under the same laws every American does.”

“I don’t have the federal plan,” Pascrell responded. “I have my own plan. So you don’t know what you are talking about.”

“You have a 72 percent subsidy that everybody watching this show does not have. That’s what the law says congressman,” Hannity said. “You’re getting special perks and special breaks for yourself, absolutely. So cut the crap and stop lying to the audience!”

“My problem is people that lie on this program,” he later added, calling Pascrell an “elitist.” “You’re not telling the truth, you’re lying to the American people.”

“Don’t you dare call me a liar,” Pascrell shot back.

Hannity then staked Congress’ “special subsidy” on a bet, proposing to give $ 10,000 to the New Jersey Democrat’s favorite charity if he was proven wrong. Pascrell refused.

“When you’re explaining, you’re losing,” Pascrell said. “You’re afraid [Obamacare"s] going to be successful.”
