Electrician Licensing Requirements - AK Electrician Accreditation Criteria

In order to receive the Alaska electrical license and work as a licensed electrician here, you will have to satisfy these prerequisites:


1. Possess at least 4 years of practical experience


2. Complete the Application For Certificate Of Fitness from the DOL


3. Undergo and ace the electrical accreditation exam


Out of your four years of work experience, a minimum of 6,000 of the time must be either industrial or commercial. You can put together the balance with any mix of the below:


- No greater than 2,000 hours of residential experience


- A maximum of 1,000 hours of associated vocational training


- A maximum of one thousand hours of power lineman work


It is important to note that maintenance work isn\’t going to count towards the work experience condition.


Undergoing The Alaska Electrical Certification Assessment


For you to sit for the journeyman licensing test in AK, you are going to first have to fill out the electrical accreditation application that you can get from the Alaska Department of Labor (DOL) site. You\’ll also have to offer evidence of your on-the-job experience on one of the following:


- A State of Alaska Experience Verification Form and notari ed

When you\’ve filled out the form and attached your original validation records, you\’ll have to shell out a $50.00 application charge using cash, credit card, money order or check. You must mail in your application no less than fourteen days in advance of your chosen exam time.
