(Newser) – Imagine what Willy Wonka could do with this: Hershey says it’s teaming up with a company called 3D Systems to develop a 3D printer that spits out, yes, chocolate, reports CNN. Essentially, the “ink well” would be filled with chocolate, and the machine would use it to produce candy in traditional or funky shapes. “This means that, provided you have enough raw chocolate on hand, you can finally fulfill your dream of creating a giant chocolate replica of Michelangelo’s David, Rodin’s Thinker and other famous sculptures,” writes Brad Reed at BGR. “Or you can just pop out a ton of Hershey’s Kisses and eat them.”

It’s not clear when the printers might be out or how much they will cost, but don’t expect them to be cheap. At the recent Consumer Electronics Show, 3D Systems showed off its candy-printing ChefJet, which will soon be on the market for professional confectioners, reports the Verge. The models are $ 5,000 and $ 10,000. The market for 3D printing of all kinds is expected to boom in the coming years, notes the Wall Street Journal, and Hershey’s early entry into the candy business could give it an important head start if things take off.

Russian cosmonauts have taken the Olympic torch for the Sochi 2014 Winter Games out for its first-ever spacewalk on Saturday. The “cosmic” torch will be the one to light the Olympic flame in February.

Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky have taken the Olympics’ main symbol into outer space and are walking around with it, handing it to one another in an imitation of a more down-to-earth torch relay.

“Prior to that, the cosmonauts will attach a holder, carrying a hermetically sealed box with a camera, to the surface of the space craft. The rest of the ISS crew will also film their colleagues,” a representative of Russia’s Mission Control told RIA Novosti.

The cosmonauts have promised to make a spectacular show out of the spacewalk and said they’ve chosen a really good location for the photo shoot, so that the torch will be front and center, with the Earth behind it in the background.  

Kotov and Ryazansky will not venture far from the ISS. They have the torch, specially modified for the space mission, safely attached to a cosmonaut’s spacesuit by a slidewire.

The photo shoot with the Olympic torch will take an hour out of the six-hour-long mission of the Russian ISS crew members in outer space, during which they will also be dismantling and mounting several items of the station’s equipment. They are also supposed to check the ISS’s surface for possible damage done by micro meteorites.

While in outer space the torch is not burning, as it’s not burning inside the ISS, where it arrived onboard a Soyuz spacecraft, November 7. The torch will be relit with gas once it returns to Earth on November 11, and will eventually light the main flame of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on February 7.

Meanwhile, the record-breaking 65,000-kilometer torch relay across Russia is well under way. As part of the epic journey, the torch has already visited the North Pole. 

Among other landmark destinations are the bottom of the deepest lake in the world – Lake Baikal, as well as the top of the Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe.
