Anthony Weiner’s campaign is reaching far and wide in fundraising appeals – including using an email list for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign alumni to fundraise.
Weiner’s campaign manager Danny Kedem sent out a fundraising appeal this weekend to the listserv, touting the Democratic New York City mayoral hopefuls single-payer health care plan and his first-place position in last week’s Marist College poll.
“We need help keeping this momentum going. Will you help Anthony stand up for single-payer health care?” Kedem’s email said, asking, “Can you contribute something today?”
(QUIZ: Do you know Anthony Weiner?)
Weiner was among Clinton’s most vocal surrogates in the 2008 campaign. His wife, Huma Abedin – who has been taking an increasingly prominent role in her husband’s effort – is in charge of Clinton’s transition office and has worked for her for years.
“An email was sent to a list of former co-workers and friends, similar to what many others on the list do when they are on a campaign or looking for staff,” a Weiner aide said when asked about the email. “We are in the middle of a campaign. This is not unusual.”
