Racing PR and Queen"s rider in "fight over woman"

Jonathan Nolan, 32, who is a work rider for the Queen’s trainer Sir Michael Stoute has been charged with grievous bodily harm following the alleged attack on John Maxse, 45, a former PR director at both the Jockey Club and the British Horseracing Authority.

Mr Maxse, who now works as a communications consultant for the Qatari Royal Family, wrote on twitter: “You know those times when you live through something potentially life changing but it’s just a bit too “big & heavy” for Twitter?”

He wrote on the social networking site on Sunday: “Said my Sunday morning goodbye to Newmarket &, for a change, good riddance; on account of some of the toxic people who live there.”

When asked by the Daily Mail whether the alleged attack was connected to an alleged relationship with Mr Nolan’s girlfriend, Mr Maxse emphasised that the woman involved was Mr Nolan’s ex-girlfriend.

“There was no argument on the night, there was no fight,” he said. But he refused to comment further because it would cause too much pain to other people”.

Mr Nolan, whose job as a work rider involves mucking out, grooming and exercising the horses, appeared in court in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. He was bailed until a later date.
