Celtic could beat Besiktas to the signature of Alex Buttner should Manchester United decide to send the left-back on loan.
So says the 24-year-old’s agent, Aleksandar Bursac, but it all depends on whether United are able to sign Leighton Baines from Everton.
“Talks are ongoing and we hope that something will happen,” said Bursac.
“It’s not only Celtic, but Besiktas are also very keen. Alex favours Celtic because of the Champions League.”
The defender’s agent told BBC Scotland that the player is also attracted to Celtic’s traditions.
“We hope that United recognise that letting him go on loan would be great for his development,” added Bursac.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon is in the market for a left-back as cover for Emilio Izaguirre.
However, the summer transfer window closes in Scotland on midnight on Saturday.
Netherlands Under-21 international Buttner joined United from Vitesse Arnhem in August 2012, signing a five-year contract.
He has made 13 appearances for United, scoring two goals.
