“Alpha House,” Amazon’s new political comedy starring John Goodman, hits computer/TV screens on Friday. Here’s what critics are saying about the show, which follows four Republican senators living together on the Hill:
The Hollywood Reporter: “While not as funny as HBO’s ‘Veep,’ the premise is solid (house-sharing is common) and brings a sense of freshness to the scripted world, though overwhelmed viewers may find that their DVRs can’t keep up with all the worthy watching out there.”
Variety: “Alpha House” is a “a polished comedy” but “not a game-changer.”
Entertainment Weekly: “ All in all, if you cam look past a few failed jokes and some awkward silences, you’ll find enjoyment. I do think it’s a good show. I’m just not sure I’m ready to move in just yet.”
LA Times: “Alpha House” is “confirmed funny” and “an accomplished piece of work.”
Refinery29: “ Amazon Prime’s New Original Show Is ‘Scandal’ For Dudes.”
The New York Times: “’Alpha House’ is not yet as sharply honed as ‘Veep,’ but it could get there; it certainly has plenty of material to work with.”
