Barbara Walters Explains Why Obama Did Not Make Her "Fascinating People" List

PIERS MORGAN: Now where is Barack Obama on this list? No sign of the president or the First Lady. This is the crushing, final death knell from you, Barbara.

BARBARA WALTERS: I don’t expect you to have watched me every night the way I watch you every night, Piers, but I just interviewed the Obamas last month. Both of them, from the White House. It was –

MORGAN: They don’t make your list.

WALTERS: They’re wonderful when they’re together and I thought –

MORGAN: Well, they are.

WALTERS: — everybody watched, but obviously you didn’t.

MORGAN: Well, no, but Barbara, here’s my point to you. I did watch that interview and you interviewed them brilliantly. However, the fact that you left them off your most fascinating list, the final one, I think is quite telling because it comes on a day when Obama’s approval rating in a new Washington Post/ABC News poll are even more catastrophic than normal. I think people will say, ‘Wow, even Barbara doesn’t find them fascinating anymore.’

WALTERS: No. I don’t interview the same person every month. We did the Obamas for a special, for an hour, in December. And the two of them together are at their most charming. Sure, he could’ve been on the list, but I would be asking him very much the same questions. And I thought that there were people who were, um, if not the president, a little more interesting. What does this remind you of? Quack! Do you know?

That’s the Duck Dynasty.

MORGAN: That’s the Duck Dynasty, you’re right.

WALTERS: Now, he may not be president of the United States, but the head of the Duck Dynasty, Uncle Si, they are very original and they are fascinating. And they are one of the top reality shows in the [country]. The president of the United States? Quack! The president of the United States?
