Theo tin mới nhất từ Sở chỉ huy tìm kiếm cứu nạn hàng không, vào lúc 16 giờ 30 phút chiều 10-3, Sở chỉ huy nhận được thông báo từ Cơ quan kiểm soát không lưu của Hongkong (Trung Quốc) cho biết một máy bay thương mại của Hongkong khi bay qua khu vực biển ngoài khơi TP Vũng Tàu đã phát hiện nhiều mảnh vỡ trôi nổi trên mặt biển.

Phía Hongkong đề nghị Sở chỉ huy tìm kiếm cứu nạn hàng không Việt Nam thông báo cho các lực lượng, tổ chức tìm kiếm.

Khu vực trên nằm cách TP Vũng Tàu khoảng 60 km về phía Đông Nam. Khu vực phát hiện nhiều mảnh vỡ cách điểm IGARY (điểm được đánh dấu ở vị trí máy bay Malaysia biến mất khỏi màn hình radar) khoảng 500 km về phía Đông Bắc.

Sở chỉ huy tìm kiếm cứu nạn hàng không đã thông báo cho các lực lượng tìm kiếm của nước ta. Do khu vực mà chiếc máy bay Hongkong phát hiện các mảnh vỡ có nhiều tàu cá của ngư dân Việt Nam đánh bắt nên lực lượng chức năng đã đề nghị ngư dân tiếp cận tìm kiếm.

Lực lượng tìm kiếm cứu nạn hàng hải cũng đã cử 1 tàu tìm kiếm cứu nạn (SAR) khẩn trương cơ động tới khu vực mà máy bay Hongkong phát hiện những mảnh vỡ trôi trên biển.

Trước đó, báo điện tử Bưu điện Hoa Nam Buổi sáng (Hong Kong) bản tiếng Anh chiều ngày 9-3 đã đăng tải bức ảnh được cho là do 1 hành khách người người Trung Quốc chụp từ trên 1 chiếc may bay khác của Hãng hàng không Malaysia Airlines bay từ Bắc Kinh (Trung Quốc) tới Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) trong sáng cùng ngày.

Bức ảnh cho thấy những mảnh vụn đang trôi nổi trên vùng biển nằm cách thủ đô Kuala Lumpur của Malaysia khoảng 90 phút đi máy bay.
