GOPer Doubles Down On "Wetbacks" But Backpedals On "Shoot On Sight"

A Republican Senate candidate interviewed by The Dallas Morning News denied that he said ranchers should be allowed to shoot “wetbacks” on sight.

The candidate, Chris Mapp, did not deny using the racial epithet, just using it in the context of shooting by ranchers. His post came after interviews with the Dallas Morning News and the San Antonio Express-News. In a lengthy, rambling Facebook post on Saturday, Mapp wrote:

Did I say “Wetbacks should be shot on sight”?

“NO” I DID NOT.
I said “OUR BORDERS CAN BE RESPECTED BY CHOICE OR BY FORCE AND CHOICE IS NOT WORKING.

Did I use the term Wetback?” Yes”.

Did I use the term illegal immigrant? “Yes”

Would I use the term undocumented worker? “Not likely”

Mapp went on to say he never advocated for the use of deadly force.

I WOULD NEVER ADVOCATE THE USE OF DEADLY FORCE UNLESS IN FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE OR FAMILY.

I SAID THE USE OF FORCE IS OK.

FORCE MEANS BY USE OF A MEANS OF DETOURING TO TURN AROUND AND GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM OR TO NOT WANT TO TRESPASS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

IF YOU ARE CONFRONTED AND CHOOSE NOT TO TURN AROUND THEN YOU MIGHT RUN THE RISK OF BEING FORCED PHYSICALLY TO DO SO.

Mapp, however, did write that illegal immigrants should suffer “consequences” if seeing a weapon isn’t enough to turn back.

“IF A VERBAL COMMAND OR THE SIGHT OF A WEAPON WILL NOT PERSUADE YOU THEN YOU MIGHT SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF A BAD DECISION. (I never said shot, did I)?” Mapp continued.

Mapp is one of a group of third-tier Republican candidates running against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in the GOP primary. Mapp is extremely unlikely to beat Cornyn.

No end to scandal in sight for Christie

Even the best-case scenario for Chris Christie isn’t pretty: It could take weeks or months to sort out new allegations that he knew more about a growing New Jersey traffic scandal than he has let on, casting an even larger pall over a man thought a few weeks ago to have a decent shot at becoming the next president.

Just when the so-called Bridgegate controversy seemed to be receding slightly, and Christie was set to bask in the limelight of his home-state Super Bowl this weekend, a new claim Friday reignited the scandal into a full-blown media firestorm.

Christie’s onetime ally and appointee David Wildstein claimed the governor – contrary to past public assertions – knew about the traffic jam operation in real time. Christie’s office denied it a few hours later, but not before people in both parties were speculating anew about whether Christie’s national ambitions – or for that matter, his governorship – are now in even more serious jeopardy.

(Also on POLITICO: Chris Christie denies accusations)

At first blush, the new allegations appeared to push the scandal into a far more serious direction for Christie, threatening to expose his seemingly forthright news conference as something much less than that. But these claims – produced on Friday without any supporting evidence from someone trying to avoid prosecution himself – also could unravel.

That possibility did not stop the Washington spin machine from cranking into high gear Friday evening.

“I think it’s a killer, really,” said John Podesta, a veteran Clinton ally and now a special adviser to President Barack Obama, in surprise remarks to Bloomberg TV. “If that was true, I don’t think there’s any coming back.”

Wildstein’s allegation, presented in a letter by his attorney, raised tantalizing new questions about what Christie knew about the four-day traffic snarl that, emails among aides and allies suggest, was orchestrated as payback against a Democratic mayor who declined to endorse the governor’s reelection.

Charles Krauthammer, a conservative commentator, said that the new claims have “potential” to worsen the situation for the governor, who has already sustained a barrage of criticism for his aides’ and allies’ apparent roles in the scandal and has the ratings drop to prove it.

(QUIZ: How well do you know Chris Christie?)

“This is kind of nasty, and it’s got potential,” Krauthhammer said on Fox News. “Christie has lived for almost a month one email away from utter ruin. There could be an email. There’s no evidence that there is.”

The claims came in a lawyer’s letter on behalf of Wildstein, an old high school acquaintance of the governor’s who served at the Port Authority until recently. Wildstein has already been linked to helping carry out the lane closures, which are now under state and federal investigation. He pleaded the Fifth at a state legislative hearing on the matter, and said through his lawyer that he will talk if he receives immunity.

There is evidence, the lawyer said, “tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed,” apparently contradicting Christie’s public statements that he didn’t learn about the lane closures — let alone suggestions they were part of a political plot rather than an ostensible Port Authority traffic study — until after they were over.

“Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the Governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some,” the lawyer said in the letter, which was published by The New York Times and other outlets.

(Also on POLITICO: Chris Christie ally invokes Fifth on subpoena)

But it’s not clear what evidence Wildstein and his lawyer, Alan Zegas, are referring to, or whether it exists outside the trove of documents Wildstein already provided to state lawmakers in response to a subpoena. Zegas did not return messages from POLITICO on Friday.

“Mr. Wildstein’s lawyer confirms what the Governor has said all along – he had absolutely no prior knowledge of the lane closures before they happened and whatever Mr. Wildstein’s motivations were for closing them to begin with,” Christie’s office said in a statement late Friday. “As the Governor said in a December 13th press conference, he only first learned lanes were closed when it was reported by the press and as he said in his January 9th press conference, had no indication that this was anything other than a traffic study until he read otherwise the morning of January 8th. The Governor denies Mr. Wildstein’s lawyer’s other assertions.”

The exchange fails to shed any new light on the more serious question of who knew about the lane closures’ apparent political motivations. As Christie’s office’s statement indicated, he maintains that he accepted the explanation that the lane closures were part of a traffic study until subpoenaed documents this month suggested otherwise.

Texas ‘honor killer’ Yaser Said could be hiding in plain sight as NYC cabbie PI Bill Warner Says as FBI New York City Field Office To Assist In Search.

FOX NEWS…The Egyptian-born cab driver suspected in the 2008 “honor killing” of his two daughters in Texas because they were dating non-Muslim boys may be working at his old trade in New York, according to a private investigator who has tracked him. Yaser Said fled his Dallas-area home after allegedly shooting daughters Amina, 18, and Sarah Said, 17, on New Year’s Day in 2008 and is now on the FBI’s list of most-wanted fugitives. Although he took his Egyptian passport and $ 9,000 when he bolted, Bill Warner, a private detective who has worked for Said’s sister-in-law, believes he never made it out of the country. With family ties to New York and a large community of his countrymen to blend into, Warner says the odds are good the suspected killer is behind the wheel of a car for hire in the Big Apple.  “It’s all he knows and I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if he’s there working as a taxi driver,” Bill Warner, who has worked on and off tracking Said, told FoxNews.com. “He could blend in at a metropolis like New York.”

Obamacare: Ongoing Disaster With No End In Sight

Affordable Care Act has all the hallmarks of a ‘Lead Zeppelin’

No one has ever seen anything like it in the history of this nation! Nothing even comes close. We’re talking about the proverbial Crash & Burn, but on a truly epic scale.

Screen Shot 2013-10-31 at 8.33.46 AM

Obamacare has proven to be the most disastrous piece of legislation in American history, bar none. And it just keeps getting worse. Yes, worse, even when you thought that they couldn’t “sink the Titanic a second time“.

How did we get here?

Let’s start by considering the following quote from Nancy Pelosi, a purported congresswoman from the Bay area. We say purported because a congressperson is supposed to represent his or her constituency. We wonder how she was doing that while uttering the following preposterous comment:

Spoken by Nancy Pelosi in March 2010 when she was Speaker of the House

You can’t make this stuff up!

Can you imagine passing the most costly and expensive, far-reaching and expansive, cumbersome and unwieldy, untested and unproven, flawed and defective, massive and consequential piece of legislation in the wake of the greatest economic recession (really depression) since the founding of the republic? !

That’s exactly what these elected representatives did. In the face of the greatest public outcry ever seen from the body politic.

Look at the list of groups who have weighed in — vehemently — against this oppressive and ill-thought-out law.

This very limited list of Obamacare haters does not include the most significant demographic of all.

Can you imagine that, during this relentless economic downturn and jobless faux recovery, the average citizen is forced to pay for Obamacare even though he or she may be so destitute they cannot fund it out of pocket. Under threat of IRS penalty, these same folks then suffer the indignity of having to pay a fine when they cannot even buy enough food to eat or gas up the car!

Truly, tha ACA has proven to be a disaster on every front … without exception!

Here are some other sentiments expressed through the headlines of the US mainstream media which tell an even worse story, if that’s possible.

But perhaps its greatest weaknesses are found in its implementation.

Here are the headlines coming in from around the country for the past month or so.  They come from both blue states and red states.  They appears in both liberal newspapers as well as conservative publications.   One really wonders how the ACA was allowed to get this point of shockingly incompetent implementation? To describe it as an ongoing train wreck would be a gross understatement, but we must call a train wreck a train wreck”.

When so many headlines graphically depict so much that is wrong with the catastrophic ‘Affordable’ Care Act, we wonder when those who have the power to remedy this situation will step up to do so?  There is no question that lacking the resolve to reverse the current Obamacare course will lead to every manner of disaster that is portrayed in the MUST SEE video shown at the following link.  It’s also quite entertaining!

Obamacare: Ongoing Disaster With No End In Sight

Gov"t shutdown enters 2nd week, no end in sight

(AP) — The government shutdown entered its second week with no end in sight and ominous signs that the United States was closer to the first default in the nation’s history as Speaker John Boehner ruled out any measure to boost borrowing authority without concessions from President Barack Obama.

The uncompromising talk rattled financial markets early Monday with the Dow dropping more than 100 points in early trading.

Just 10 days before the threat of default would be imminent, animosity among congressional leaders marked the stalemate and resolution seemed elusive.

A statement from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., accused Boehner of a credibility problem and called on him to allow a vote on a straightforward bill to re-open the government.

“There is now a consistent pattern of Speaker Boehner saying things that fly in the face of the facts or stand at odds with his past actions,” said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Reid. “Americans across the country are suffering because Speaker Boehner refuses to come to grips with reality.”

In response, Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, said it was “time for Senate Democrats to stow their faux outrage and deal with the problems at hand. The federal government is shut down because Democrats refuse to negotiate, and the debt limit is right around the corner.”

A defiant Boehner insists that Obama must negotiate if the president wants to end the shutdown and avert a default that could trigger a financial crisis and recession that would echo 2008 or worse. The 2008 financial crisis plunged the country into the worst recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

“We’re not going to pass a clean debt limit increase,” the Ohio Republican said in a television interview Sunday. “I told the president, there’s no way we’re going to pass one. The votes are not in the House to pass a clean debt limit, and the president is risking default by not having a conversation with us.”

Boehner also said he lacks the votes “to pass a clean CR,” or continuing resolution, a reference to the temporary spending bill without conditions that would keep the government operating.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has warned that the budget brinkmanship was “playing with fire” and implored Congress to pass legislation to re-open the government and increase the nation’s $ 16.7 trillion debt limit. Lew reiterated that Obama has no intention to link either bill to Republican demands for changes in the 3-year-old health care law and spending cuts.

The shutdown has pushed hundreds of thousands of workers off the job, closed national parks and museums and stopped an array of government services.

The one bright spot on Monday is a significant chunk of the furloughed federal workforce is headed back to work. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered nearly 350,000 back on the job, basing his decision on a Pentagon interpretation of a law called the Pay Our Military Act.

Those who remain at home or are working without paychecks are a step closer to getting back pay once the partial government shutdown ends. The Senate could act this week on the measure that passed the House unanimously on Saturday.

Democrats insist that Republicans could easily open the government if Boehner simply allows a vote on the emergency spending bill. Democrats argue that their 200 members in the House plus close to two dozen pragmatic Republicans would back a so-called clean bill, but the Speaker remains hamstrung by his tea party-strong GOP caucus.

“Let me issue him a friendly challenge. Put it on the floor Monday or Tuesday. I would bet there are the votes to pass it,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

In a series of Sunday television appearances, Lew warned that on Oct. 17, he exhausts the bookkeeping maneuvers he has been using to keep borrowing.

“I’m telling you that on the 17th, we run out of the ability to borrow, and Congress is playing with fire,” Lew said.

Lew said that while Treasury expects to have $ 30 billion of cash on hand on Oct. 17, that money will be quickly exhausted in paying incoming bills given that the government’s payments can run up to $ 60 billion on a single day.

Treasury issued a report on Thursday detailing in stark terms what could happen if the government actually defaulted on its obligations to service the national debt.

“A default would be unprecedented and has the potential to be catastrophic,” the Treasury report said. “Credit markets could freeze, the value of the dollar could plummet, U.S. interest rates could skyrocket, the negative spillovers could reverberate around the world.”

Private economists generally agree that a default on the U.S. debt would be extremely harmful, especially if the impasse was not resolved quickly.

“If they don’t pay on the debt, that would cost us for generations to come,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. He said a debt default would be a “cataclysmic” event that would roil financial markets in the United States and around the world.

Zandi said that holders of U.S. Treasury bonds would demand higher interest rates which would cost the country hundreds of billions of dollars in higher interest payments in coming years on the national debt.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a force in pushing Republicans to link changes to the health care law in exchange for keeping the government running, spelled out his conditions for raising the borrowing authority.

“We should look for three things. No. 1, we should look for some significant structural plan to reduce government spending. No. 2, we should avoid new taxes. And No. 3, we should look for ways to mitigate the harms from ‘Obamacare,’” Cruz said, describing the debt ceiling as an issue that is among the “best leverage the Congress has to rein in the executive.”

Boehner and Schumer were interviewed on ABC’s “This Week,” and Lew and Cruz on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Lew also appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” ”Fox News Sunday” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
