I am having a hard time believing what she’s saying at this point as well. If true, it would make her the most prodigious female serial killer in American history at the tender age of 19. There have been others, mainly in the 19th century who are rumored to have killed more but in the modern era she would take the cake.

Without further information its hard to not think there is a large element of some kind of screwed up attention seeking behavior after her and her husband were caught “thrill killing” the poor guy lured from craigslist.

On the other hand, maybe she’s just a special kind of psychopath. Time will tell.

Texas ‘honor killer’ Yaser Said could be hiding in plain sight as NYC cabbie PI Bill Warner Says as FBI New York City Field Office To Assist In Search.

FOX NEWS…The Egyptian-born cab driver suspected in the 2008 “honor killing” of his two daughters in Texas because they were dating non-Muslim boys may be working at his old trade in New York, according to a private investigator who has tracked him. Yaser Said fled his Dallas-area home after allegedly shooting daughters Amina, 18, and Sarah Said, 17, on New Year’s Day in 2008 and is now on the FBI’s list of most-wanted fugitives. Although he took his Egyptian passport and $ 9,000 when he bolted, Bill Warner, a private detective who has worked for Said’s sister-in-law, believes he never made it out of the country. With family ties to New York and a large community of his countrymen to blend into, Warner says the odds are good the suspected killer is behind the wheel of a car for hire in the Big Apple.  “It’s all he knows and I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if he’s there working as a taxi driver,” Bill Warner, who has worked on and off tracking Said, told FoxNews.com. “He could blend in at a metropolis like New York.”

Israel’s Killer Robots

Vice

Israel is the world’s biggest exporter of military drones, used around the world for everything from surveillance to precision rocket attacks on speeding cars in remote locales. Israel’s drone program hasn’t stirred as much controversy as its American counterpart, but not because their targeted killings are any less fatal. VICE sent Simon Ostrovsky to a drone testing airfield in Israel to find out what their latest eye-in-the-sky can see.

Chiquita bananas hired killer commandos: suit

Source: New York Post/AP

Faced with potentially billions of dollars in legal liability, Chiquita Brands International is asking a federal appeals court to block lawsuits filed against it in the U.S. by thousands of Colombians whose relatives were killed in that country’s bloody, decades-long civil war.

The produce giant, which long had huge banana plantations in Colombia, has admitted paying a right-wing Colombian paramilitary group $ 1.7 million over a seven-year period. The Charlotte, N.C.-based company insists it was blackmailed into paying or risking violence against its own operations and employees, although in 2007 Chiquita pleaded guilty to U.S. criminal charges that it had supported terrorists. It paid a $ 25 million fine.

The Colombian lawsuits, consolidated for pretrial action before a federal judge in West Palm Beach, want Chiquita held liable for thousands of deaths at the hands of the AUC, the Spanish acronym for the right-wing United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. The Colombian relatives have won several key pretrial rulings, but now Chiquita is taking its fight for dismissal to a new level.

Daniel Pelka: stepfather killer was "wanted criminal" in Poland

“Never in my life would I ever leave my children with him.”

Magdelena Luczak and Mariusz Krezolek (NEWSTEAM)

Luczak, who met Krezolek in England after she left life in Lodz, central Poland, left four-year-old Daniel reduced to “broken bag of bones” after months of abuse along with Krezolek.

Her younger sister said her mother had visited the couple two weeks before Daniel’s death and had serious concerns about his condition, coming back “with terrible stories.”

She told the newspaper: “My mother went to England to visit Magada two weeks before Daniel died and came back with terrible stories.

“She said: ‘Something terrible is happening in that house.’”

Yolanta, Luczak’s mother, also told the Mail that her husband died due to the stress of seeing his daughter charged his grandson’s murder.

She said: “Mariusz doesn’t deserve to walk on this earth. I’m in no state to talk about this, my life is full of tragedy.”

Magdalena Luczak told the jury that Mariusz Krezolek’s behaviour towards Daniel was “slowly changing” after the family moved to their final address in Coventry in Aril 2011 (PRISCILLA COLEMAN)

Jurors wept as they heard how Daniel Pelka was often so hungry that he would steal food from classmates and would root around in bins for scraps.

The pair, who came to Coventry from native Poland in 2006, were said to have subjected Daniel to “unimaginable cruelty”.

Neither showed any emotion as after four hours of deliberation the jury returned guilty verdicts. They will be sentenced tomorrow.

According to a neighbour Luczak would be picked up at night and dropped off in the same car in the morning, leading to suspicions that she was a prostitute.

Eryk Pelka, Daniel’s natural father, a lorry driver, said last night: “I feel hate towards Magda. I hope she will never come out of jail.

A stained mattress Daniel Pelka was forced to sleep on during his confinement in the box room (PA)

“I had very limited access to Daniel once I returned to Poland. Every time I rang Magda would make excuses.”

At one point his mother held him under bath water until he passed out, sending a text message to Krezolek saying: “I am having some quiet time.”

The boy’s murder, which occurred weeks after teaching staff saw him with bruising to his neck and black eyes, is now subject of a serious case review by Coventry’s Safeguarding Children Board.

Tim Loughton MP, the ex-Children’s Minister, said it was “chilling” that a “number of agencies were aware” of the case.

Mr Loughton told BBC Radio Four’s Today programme: “The problem is that there are evil people who will do evil things to vulnerable children, and even their own children.

“The job of the system and of child protection is to make the opportunities to do these evil things much harder and to spot it when you see some early warning signs.

“The chilling thing about this case is that a number of agencies were aware of this child.

“This was not a child who was hidden from the world.”

However the former Conservative minister said “a lot is being done” to solve the problem of child abuse.

Jurors in the trial were also told how Daniel was left to die in his unheated “cell” for around 33 hours after suffering a fatal head injury at his Coventry home on March 1 last year.

Former soldier Krezolek – described in court as a heartless “monster” – and Luczak blamed each other for Daniel’s death during the trial.

But text messages between the pair proved they worked as a team to inflict the sickening abuse and even decided not to summon an ambulance as Daniel lay dying with more than 20 separate injuries.

Daniel weighed just 1 stone 9 lbs, and was repeatedly struck around the head, causing his brain to swell.

The serious case review is also expected to look into contact between doctors and Daniel, who was seen by a community paediatrician and found to be underweight but not “wasted” three weeks before his death.

During the meeting with the paediatrican, Dr Supratik Chakraborthy, Krezolek laughed out loud as Luczak explained how Daniel had once eaten discarded chips he had picked up from a pavement.

Medical records show Daniel weighed 14.8kg in January 2011 and 13.8kg three weeks before his death.

But the schoolboy, who had developed normally until January 2011, weighed just 10.7kg and was in a state of “skeletal emaciation” at the time of his death on March 3 last year.

Experts in paediatric development told the court Daniel had low iron stores, low zinc stores, wafer thin body fat, and barely any muscle at the point of his death.

Although he should been around 3ft 9ins, he was only 3ft 3ins because his bones had stopped growing due to food deprivation over at least three months and possibly up to nine months.

The serious case review will examine why social services and police did not become involved after staff at Coventry’s Little Heath Primary School noticed bruising on his neck and what appeared to be two black eyes.

Although the injuries to the neck were entered in a concerns book at Daniel’s school, no written record was made of the later bruising seen around his eyes.

Luczak played a leading role in convincing teachers and medical professionals that Daniel’s weight less, which the court heard left him looking like a famine victim, was due to a rare genetic disorder.

Social services closed their file on Daniel five months after the injury was passed off as an accident in January 2011.

At trial, Whitey Bulger described as "hands-on killer"

  • Prosecutors say James “Whitey” Bulger was an Irish mob boss

  • They say he killed 19 people, hit up criminals in South Boston for protection payments

  • He has pleaded not guilty to every count

  • He is 83 now, was captured in 2011 after 16 years in hiding

(CNN) — If you lived in South Boston from the late 1970s through the mid-1990s you either loved or loathed Whitey Bulger.

He could be colorful and generous or, if you were his enemy, he could be cutthroat and cruel.

On Wednesday, James “Whitey” Bulger finally stands trial, charged in the murder of 19 people. The federal trial in Boston is expected to take as long as three months and has the potential to reveal sensational details about the mob and FBI corruption.

Opening statements begin Wednesday morning.

Bolger rose to the top of the notorious Winter Hill gang, prosecutors say, before he went into hiding for more than 16 years after a crooked FBI agent told him in December 1994 he was about to be indicted on federal racketeering charges.

He was captured in Santa Monica, California, two years ago, living under a false name with his girlfriend in an apartment in the oceanside city.

At his arraignment in July 2011 he pleaded not guilty to the 19 murder charges and 13 other counts.

Through his lawyers, the 83-year-old defendant had argued he was given immunity by the FBI and a former prosecutor. The judged dismissed the claim — saying any purported immunity was not a defense against crimes Bulger faces.

Besides the slayings, Bulger is accused of using violence, force and threats to shake down South Boston’s bookmakers, loan sharks and drug dealers. The Irish mob allegedly laundered its ill-gotten gains though liquor stores, bars and other property it owned in South Boston.

“The guy is a sociopathic killer,” Tom Foley, the organized crime investigator who spent most of his career with the Massachusetts State Police trying to put Bulger behind bars, told CNN in 2011. “He loved that type of life. He’s one of the hardest and cruelest individuals that operated in the Boston area. He’s a bad, bad, bad guy.”

Former Boston Globe reporter Dick Lehr, who wrote a book about Bulger, described him as a cold-blooded killer whose gang went to lengths to avoid detection.

“When they killed someone — this is pre-DNA — they pulled the teeth out, cut the fingers off, tried to make it so the victims, if they were discovered from their graves, couldn’t be identified. There’s just no bottom. It doesn’t get much uglier than someone like Whitey Bulger,” Lehr said.

Few people knew Bulger was a rat.

FBI agent John Connolly, who was raised in the same housing projects as Bulger, cut a deal with the alleged mob figure in 1975. Bulger would give information about the Italian mob — the FBI’s prime target — authorities said.

Protected by the rogue FBI agent, Bulger got names of other informants who had dirt on him and rival gang members — people he is accused of killing.

He knew when police were watching, knew when they were moving in.

After he fled Boston, he spent more than a decade on the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list before he was captured in June 2011.

His girlfriend, Catherine Greig, was sentenced to eight years in prison last summer for helping him evade capture.

Connolly is is serving a 50-year sentence for second-degree murder and racketeering.

Prosecutors plan to call as many as 80 witnesses. Among them will be Connolly and Bulger’s alleged No. 2, Stephen Flemmi, who was also an informant for the FBI. He is serving life terms without parole but avoided a possible death sentence by cooperating in the hunt for Bulger.

Other former Bulger associates are expected to be called by the prosecution.

Last August, Bulger’s lead attorney, J. W. Carney, said his client planned to testify.

“At this point in his life, his goal is to have the truth come out regarding how he was able to act with impunity for so long in the city of Boston,” Carney told CNN affiliate WCVB.

CNN’s Deborah Feyerick, Ann O’Neill and Michael Martinez contributed to this report.

UN Expert Worries About Killer Robots, Ignores The Ones That Already Exist

Autonomous war robots are coming. Panicking about them will only make things worse.

Fictional F/A-37

Fictional F/A-37 A fictional autonomous robot fighter plane from the 2005 movie “Stealth.” Wikimedia Commons

Yesterday, a United Nations expert called for a halt and moratorium on developing “lethal autonomous robotics,” or, in layman’s terms, “killer robots.”

His argument: once killer robots take part in war, there will be no going back. Christof Heyns, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, told the Human Rights Council that now is the time to regulate and stop killer robots, arguing that “decisions over life and death in armed conflict may require compassion and intuition.” He also urged the council to form a panel that would study whether international laws in place today adequately address the use of killer robots.

Thing is, killer robots already exist. And they’re about the least compassionate machines we could imagine.

Actual killer robots

Actual Killer Robots: a pile of landmines in Cambodia.  Neil Rickards, via Wikimedia Commons

I’m talking about land mines, those notorious explosives that explode when walked over. Land mines are programmed to kill when certain conditions are met. That is the same principle guiding a killer robot.

But there are some key differences: A killer robot might make a decision based on algorithms and inputs, internal coding and pre-programmed combat behaviors. It might be programmed to understand the laws of war, and it might use surveillance technologies to make distinctions between unarmed civilians and armed combatants. The same principles that power facial recognition software could apply to robots targeting their weapons at other weapons, so they fire to disable guns and not to kill people.

Land mines, on the other hand, fail to distinguish between civilians and soldiers, between soldiers of different nations, and between animals or large children or small soldiers. Land-mine triggers cannot be easily shut off and are designed for durability not intelligence. At their worst, killer robots could be as deadly and as indiscriminate as landmines. Chances are, though, they will be much more sophisticated.

The task before lawmakers is not to ban a technology out of fear but to adapt the law to the technology once it exists. Making legislative decisions about new technology is tricky business. In the United States, electronic communication is governed by a law passed well before email was a regular fixture of life. Provisions that made sense to congressmen in 1986 trying to imagine email led to great weaknesses in privacy and personal security, all because the technology wasn’t understood when the law was written. The stakes are much lower in governing electronic communications than in authorizing robots to kill.

Killer robots are coming. Efforts to halt their introduction or ban their development are not only likely to fail, but they’ll drown out legitimate concerns about the safest way to implement the technology with Luddite fear-mongering.
