The other day, I got the wildest photo from a friend of mine who lives in Utah, which was of her and some friends, covered in bright colors, participating in color run, of all things! Of course, at the time, I had not the foggiest idea what a color run was or might be, but I did know that something about those colors truly made me want to participate. I determined to ask my friend what prompted her to participate and she willingly told me.
She told me that she had been feeling like she was stuck in a slump for a while, and when she told her boyfriend about it, he got a sneaky look on his face and told her to wait a few days. She begged and pleaded with him to tell her what he was planning, but he would not say a word about it. Finally, one day, he asked her to put on some comfortable running clothes and get in the car.
The two of them had gone running together frequently, but she could tell he was up to something else, so she was beside herself with excitement. He drove her through town and when they arrived at their destination, there was an immense crowd gathered there. They pushed their way up to a table which turned out to be a registration table, and they were given a packet of unique items that included a t-shirt and a number to pin on.
When she saw that it was a 5k run, she assumed that it must be a charity race, and she was pretty eager to begin a good race. She got ready for a big competition, but as they began running, she was surprised that the feeling of the race was not so much competition, but everyone just seemed to be having a great time. After running for a small distance, I was amazed to see that all the runners were covered with colored powder. It was an amazing cloud of vibrant colorful powder, and everyone was shouting and laughing as everyone let out their feelings of excitement.
These surprise sprays of colored powder kept coming around every ten minutes, and each time it was a different color. By the time they achieved the finish line, she was covered from head to toe in a cheerful rainbow of colors. After hearing her story, I thought it sounded like a riot and decided that I needed to participate in the color run that was going to be in my city in four weeks. The color run was all that I had hoped for, and I felt completely pumped up and happy being covered with bright happy colors and surrounded by friendly people.
