Police confirmed that Democratic Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds was stabbed multiple times while his son died from an apparent gunshot wound in an incident Tuesday morning at the lawmaker’s Millboro, Va. home.
Corinne Gellar, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said in a press conference that Deeds suffered multiple stab wounds about the head and upper torso.
She confirmed that a second individual found dead at the residence was Deeds’ son Austin, 24, also known as Gus. Gellar said state troopers found Austin at the residence suffering from life-threatening injuries associated with a gunshot wound, and despite first responders’ efforts, he died at the scene.
Gellar said police were still investigating the motive for the incident as well as the sequence of events that occurred, but are not seeking other suspects.
Deeds was able to make some statements to investigators, Gellar said. The state senator was being treated at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
