Condi Rice In Running For 2014 Chutzpah Award

Condi Rice has joined the tut tutting brigade against Americans who aren’t crazy about fighting yet another war:

“I fully understand the sense of weariness,” she told a GOP fundraiser Wednesday, according to reports. “I fully understand that we must think: ‘Us, again?’ I know that we’ve been through two wars. I know that we’ve been vigilant against terrorism. I know that it’s hard. But leaders can’t afford to get tired. Leaders can’t afford to be weary.”

….Rice said the United States has taken a step back in conflicts including Syria, Ukraine and others. “When America steps back and there is a vacuum, trouble will fill that vacuum,” Rice said.

That’s precious, isn’t it? Maybe Rice should give some thought to the possibility that Americans aren’t weary of war, but weary of dumb, poorly fought wars. Maybe if the administration she served for eight years hadn’t launched two of the dumbest, most mismanaged wars in American history, we wouldn’t all be so weary.

As an aside, I’d point out that her administration took no military action against Iran and mounted no serious international sanctions against the regime. Her administration also did nothing when Russia invaded South Ossetia. Obama, by contrast, has doubled down in Afghanistan to try and clean up the mess left over from the Bush administration; he’s forced Iran to the negotiating table by crippling its economy; he’s participated in an invasion and regime change in Libya; he’s crippled al-Qaeda via massive drone attacks; and he’s spearheaded a growing backlash against Russia’s invasion of Crimea. And when he tried to mount an attack against Syria in retaliation for its use of chemical weapons, he was shot down not just by members of his own party, but by members of Rice’s Republican Party too.

Whatever else you can say about Obama, he’s hardly a peacemonger. His foreign policy might not be quite as blindly bellicose and unfocused as George Bush’s, but he sure isn’t shy about using or threatening military force when he thinks it’s in America’s interest. Rice should pay more attention. She might learn something.

Pakistani teen who stopped suicide bomber to get posthumous award

A Pakistani teenager who sacrificed his life to stop a suicide bomber, saving the lives of hundreds of students, has been honoured with the country’s highest award for bravery.

Aitzaz Hassan, 15, a student in Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has become a national hero after tackling the bomber who came to attack his school on Monday while hundreds of students were inside.

Hassan died in hospital after the bomber blew himself up at the school gates. No one else was wounded or killed in the incident.

The office of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said it had advised President Mamnoon Hussain “to approve the conferment of Sitara-e-Shujjat (star of bravery) to Shaheed Aitzaz Hassan.

“Shaheed Aitzaz’s brave act saved the lives of hundreds of students and established a sterling example of gallantry and patriotism,” it said in a statement issued late Friday.

An official from the Prime Minister’s house told AFP on Saturday that Hassan’s family is expected to receive the posthumous award on March 23, Pakistan‘s national day, following the president’s ceremonial approval.

News of Hassan’s act led to an outpouring of tributes on social media.

Pakistani newspapers, TV channels and social media sites had demanded recognition for Hassan’s bravery, calling him a hero who should receive the nation’s highest award.

Locals from Hassan’s village, Ibrahimzai in Hangu district, and Pakistan army officers laid floral wreaths on his grave on Saturday as relatives looked on and wept.

Students held a vigil and carried placards condemning the killing and terrorism.

A military statement on Saturday said Brigadier Nadeem Zaki Manj, a local commander in Hangu, visited Hassan’s grave and laid a floral wreath on behalf of General Raheel Sharif, the head of Pakistan’s army.

The commander also conveyed Sharif’s “rich tributes to the bereaved family on the bravery and sacrifice” of their son, the statement added.

“The Nation is proud of this young Hero who has set a sterling example of bravery and sacrifice… he has sacrificed his today for our better tomorrow,” the army chief said in a message for Hassan’s father.

Hundreds of fellow students prayed for Hassan in the morning school assembly.

Shahban Mahdi, a classmate of Hassan, told AFP: “I am proud of what he did. I owe my life to him — had it not been for Aitzaz Hassan, none of us would be alive.”

Habib Ali, one of Hassan’s teachers, added: “His classmates miss him…but they promise they will not forget him always and will keep his memory alive. And we say to all terrorists: you cannot stop us, and we will keep on studying.”

Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban for championing girls’ right to education, paid tribute to the teenager on Friday, describing him as “brave and courageous.”

“In sacrificing his own life, Aitzaz protected hundreds of innocent young students from being killed,” she said in a statement.

“I wish that in giving his own life he helps to bring peace to my people and my country,” she said.

Hassan’s father Mujahid Ali Bangash, 55, told AFP on Thursday he felt not sadness but pride at his son’s death.

“Aitzaz has made us proud by valiantly intercepting the bomber and saving the lives of hundreds of his fellow students,” he said.

“I am happy that my son has become a martyr by sacrificing his life for a noble cause.”

Bangash works in the UAE and was only able to reach Ibrahimzai village, which lies in an area of Hangu dominated by minority Shiite Muslims, the day after his son’s funeral.

Police official Shakirullah Bangash told AFP on Thursday that Aitzaz intercepted the bomber 490 feet away from the main gate of the school, which has about 1,000 students.

George H.W. Bush Wins LBJ Foundation Award

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation has given its LBJ Liberty and Justice for All Award to former President George H.W. Bush for his civility, civil rights work and bipartisanship.

The nation’s 41st president was presented with the honor at his office in Houston by the late Lyndon Johnson’s daughters, Lynda Johnson Robb and Luci Baines Johnson, The Dallas News reports.

“The period of his presidency stands as a well-remembered time when those qualities characterized leadership in our country at the highest levels — a condition from which all Americans benefited,” LBJ Foundation chairman Larry Temple said.

“I know President Johnson would be elated with the presentation of this award, the LBJ Foundation’s highest honor, to President Bush.”

Bush said he and his wife Barbara “both had such great respect for LBJ and of course we loved Lady Bird [his wife]. They were both great Americans, and great Texans, who loved their country and their state.”

Rihanna Displays Illuminati Hand Gesture at Latest Music Award Performance

  • Staff Writer | December 1, 2013 | 1:38pm EDT

The Princess of Darkness Rihanna, performed “Diamonds” at the 2013 American Music Awards, displaying her love for the Illuminati.

(INTELLIHUB) — In a powerful and unique presentation of her hit song “Diamonds”, Rihanna, dressed in an all black gown, took to the stage at the 2013 American Music Awards last month raising a massive applause from the captivated audience.

However, in typical Roc fashion, Rihanna threw up the Illuminati sign, forming a pyramid with her two hands raised above her head in mid performance. While this is a rather typical gesture for the artist, it fuels the conspiracy controversy and is unsettling to some.

Rihanna’s manager and billionaire Jay-Z has also been known to rock the symbol as well.

VIDEO: Bruno Mars Gets Special Delivery! A Grammy in a Pizza Box!

Bruno Mars was just hanging at home in Hollywood Hills a few weeks ago, when something unexpected showed up at his door! A pizza box, an extra large pizza box from Domino’s. But there wasn’t a sausage or pepperoni pie inside. It was a Grammy award!!! A source says when Bruno opened the box he found his Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance! We don’t get the connection between Domino’s and the Grammys either, but this story sounds cheesy!

2013 Latent Hit of the Year Award

How the FBI’s fingerprint database helped police in California solve a 1999 murder.

07/09/13

In September 2001, a California sheriff’s department linked up electronically with the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, or IAFIS, through the California Department of Justice. To test the system, the department selected as its inaugural submission a latent print found at the crime scene of an unsolved 1999 murder. IAFIS returned several possible matches, and subsequent investigation led to the arrest and guilty plea of the man responsible.

 What Are Latent Prints?

And three key individuals involved in this case were recently selected for the 2013 Latent “Hit of the Year” Award, given annually by our Criminal Justice Information Services Division to latent print examiners and law enforcement officers for their efforts to solve major crimes using IAFIS latent print services.

How the investigation began. On December 2, 1999, the San Bernardino Police Department responded to a call regarding an unresponsive male on the floor of a jewelry store. The victim was identified as 74-year-old Marshall Adams, a well known jeweler who worked for 25 years as a teacher before opening his own store.

San Bernardino Police detective John Munoz headed the investigation, with assistance from the Scientific Investigations Division of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Identification technicians—including Randy Beasley—collected latent fingerprints, palmprints, and blood evidence obtained from a knife, doors, and a store catalog. Beasley also discovered a bloody palmprint on the victim’s face. Adams had been brutally beaten and stabbed, and his wallet and several pieces of display case jewelry were missing.

The sheriff’s department processed the crime scene evidence and searched all latent prints against their own databases. One possible suspect was identified but then cleared. With no other leads, the case went cold.

IAFIS proves its mettle. Then, in September 2001, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department joined the IAFIS network and sent in a fingerprint from the Adams case—specifically, a latent print taken from a jewelry catalog. Shortly thereafter, IAFIS responded with a list of possible candidates. Supervising fingerprint examiner James Nursall concluded that the latent print evidence was a match to one of the candidates—Jad Salem—who according to IAFIS had been arrested in Texas two weeks after Adams’ murder. He had been stopped for a traffic violation but was then arrested on a drug charge, and Texas authorities entered Salem’s prints into IAFIS.

Detective Munoz located Salem in San Bernardino. After being advised of the fingerprint evidence against him, Salem agreed to provide his fingerprints and palmprints for comparison against latent evidence collected from the crime scene. Fingerprint examiner Nursall concluded that Salem’s prints matched the latent prints found on the jewelry store door and on the victim’s face.

Salem was arrested and charged with Adams’ murder. During an interview, Salem admitted being at the crime scene but claimed to have only been a witness. He could not, however, explain how his palmprint left a bloody impression on the victim’s face. And according to courtroom proceedings, Salem and Adams had met several times to discuss the purchase of an engagement ring.

In the face of this overwhelming evidence, Salem pled guilty and was sentenced to 32 years in prison. Proof positive of the key role that technology can play in identifying dangerous criminals and bringing them to justice.
