Journalist Dubbed ‘Macedonian Assange’ Arrested in Serbia

Danica Radisic
Global Voices
November 11, 2013

Zoran Bozinovski, a journalist known as “the Macedonian Assange”, was arrested in Serbia on an Interpol arrest warrant on November 7, 2013. Bozinovski runs the Macedonian site Burevesnik.org, often referred to as the Macedonian WikiLeaks due to the fact that he and others have released documents there in the past that reveal foul play and corruption in Macedonian politics and business.

Another Macedonian journalist recently sentenced to prison for “revealing the identity of a protected witness”, Tomislav Kezarovski, was released earlier that same day to serve the remainder of his four-and-a-half-year sentence under house arrest.

Macedonian citizens and journalists on social media were surprised to hear of the arrest of another journalist on the very day that Kezarovski had been released into house arrest, with some ironically calling it “a trade off”, and others saying there was now an open witch hunt on Macedonian journalists. Comments on Twitter regarding Kezarovski’s release and Bozinovski’s arrest are mostly ironic, with many suspecting authorities knew this was coming.

Aco Lazarov from Macedonia asked:

English Translation:

There wasn’t room in prison for Bozinovski so they let Kezarovski out?

— Ацо Лазаров (@AcoLazarov) November 8, 2013

Another Macedonian Twitter user, Jana, commented upon learning the news of Bozinovski’s arrest:

English Translation:

I don’t know why or how but this is a bad day for investigative journalism in Macedonia. Journalist Zoran Bozinovski arrested http://t.co/cKcPxUVXiz

— Јана (@PaliKukja) November 7, 2013

Bozinovski was arrested by Serbian authorities on charges of espionage, extortion and criminal conspiracy. He was easily located in one of the two apartments he had been renting in Novi Sad, Serbia, where he had living for the past several months. Police confiscated two computers and several yet unspecified documents from the apartment at the time of the arrest, and stated that Bozinovski will be held in a local jail until extradition to Macedonia, after the Macedonian government officially files for the extradition.

Some Serbian and Macedonian media are reporting [sr] that Bozinovski, also known as a conspiracy theorist who has dubbed himself “Crazy Milojko” on his own site and elsewhere online, is deeply involved in espionage, although no evidence has yet been put forth:

English Translation:

The suspect is a member of a criminal group that was cracked several months ago when high officials of the Macedonian government and employees of [national] security services were arrested and charged with spying for Greece. According to information obtained during the investigation, they spied for foreign secret services, but also blackmailed individuals from Macedonian public life. They also had several media under their control as well as certain Internet pages through which they threatened to publish confidential content, which they did.

These accusations seem to stem from Bozinovski publishing certain files and confidential information that he obtained regarding corruption and foul play within the Macedonian government and Macedonian organized crime, which Bozinovsski and some of his associates claim are closely tied.

He has also been researching these ties and alleged manipulations in Macedonian politics, as well as the tragic death of Macedonian singer Tose Proeski, who died in a car accident at the age of 26 in 2007. Bozinovski began writing a book on this subject and, after being rejected by 32 publishers in the region, finally announced that he had found a publisher in Zagreb, Croatia willing to make his research public.

In the video below, Bozinovski gave an interview to Nova TV in May 2013, during which he listed several things that he found suspicious about the young singer’s death, claiming he had evidence of how the then ruling politicians and media exploited Tose Proeski and continue to profit from the singer’s legacy. Bozinovski also stated in this interview that he does not necessarily believe that the late musical prodigy is dead, citing that no real evidence of his death was ever provided. The book is planned to come out sometime in 2014.

Twitter user Parg0 from Skopje noted:

English Translation:

#божиновски [Bozinovski] may be crazy, but I don’t think he’s stupid. I expect http://t.co/gwxwK000J7 to begin putting out a lot of interesting documents.

— Parg0 (@parg0) November 8, 2013

Whatever the case regarding his upcoming book and work on Burevesnik.org, several media associations have condemned the arrest of Bozinovski, including the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS). In an official statement on their website, they remind Serbian authorities that this arrest has also been publicly condemned by the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), as well as Central and Eastern Europe Media Organization (CEEMO), and they add:

English Translation:

The UNS [Journalists" Association of Serbia] reminds that a court in Macedonia recently, without valid legal reason, convicted journalist from the daily “Nova Makedonija” Tomislav Kezarovski to four and a half years in prison “for revealing the identity of a protected witness in an uncleared murder”. [...]

Due to this, UNS requests of the Ministry of Justice of Serbia that, during their deliberation concerning the extradition of Zoran Bozinovski to a country that convicts journalists under debatable rulings and requests their arrest, they be particularly wary and look into all circumstances relevant to the protection of professional rights and interests of journalists.

While there are reports that the extradition process has been started [mk], it is now unclear whether Bozinovski has obtained Serbian citizenship during his stay in Serbia and, if so, whether the extradition process to Macedonia will be able to be carried out. When asked by Macedonian media, the Macedonian Ministry of Interior could neither deny nor confirm whether Bozinovski was also a Serbian national at this time.

Curiously, Bozinovski posted this photograph of himself in handcuffs on his Facebook profile on October 11, 2013, adding the note:

“fotografijata e od edno minato vreme. taka beše, dali pak ke bide – ke vidime!?”

English Translation:

The photograph is from a past time. So it was, whether it will be so [again]- we shall see!?

Julian Assange giving a speech from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London on August 19, 2012.

Ecuador President Rafael Correa has accused Britain of “violating” the human rights of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange by denying the activist safe passage from the British capital.

In an interview with AFP in Paris on Friday, Correa said the future of the Australian campaigner remains in the “hands” of the UK government as he has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for almost a year and a half.

“If (the British officials) want to keep him there for 30 years, he’ll stay there 30 years, but that would violate his human rights,” he stated.

Correa also suggested that Ecuador is still offering Assange asylum, adding the activist had the right “to demand asylum in the country of his choice.”

Last month, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said Quito will have no “alternative” but to go to international tribunals if London rejects a proposal to submit the case of the WikiLeaks founder to a bilateral commission.

Moreover, Patino urged the British government to “respect Ecuador’s right to grant asylum” and allow the campaigner safely travel to the Latin American country.

Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since June 2012 and has secured political asylum from the South American country after he lost a legal battle against extradition to Sweden where he is wanted for questioning over the sexual abuse allegations.

It is believed that Assange’s extradition to the North European country is a cover for sending him to the US, where he is wanted over the release of thousands of US’ classified documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on his whistleblower website.

Time Reporter Who Advocated Drone Strike on Assange Loves Big Brother

‘Big government helps protect our rights’

Michael Grunwald, the Time Magazine reporter who advocated killing Julian Assange with a drone strike, is a quintessential mainstream media hack – he describes himself as a “statist” and thinks big government actually exists to protect people’s rights.

On Saturday, Grunwald tweeted that he “can’t wait to write a defense of the drone strike that takes out Julian Assange”. Grunwald was forced to apologize but not before he complained about how his outburst, “gives Assange supporters a nice safe persecution complex to hide in”.

A picture soon emerged of Grunwald as an ardent supporter the state and a pathetic apologist for every control freak aspect of modern society you can imagine.

Back in April, Grunwald wrote a piece for Time advocating ubiquitous surveillance cameras, gun control, drone warfare, NSA spying, government regulation of business, and basically any and all “Big Brother intrusions into our private lives,” openly inviting the state to “tread on me” in order for “big government” to help “protect other important rights”.

However, Grunwald’s definition of what constitutes “rights” are nowhere to be found in the actual Bill of Rights.

“Like the right of a child to watch a marathon or attend first grade without getting killed — or, for that matter, the right to live near a fertilizer factory without it blowing up your house.”

Grunwald’s argument that every fundamental liberty can be shredded in order for the government to “protect” the right not to be killed – which is not a right at all – is based on emotional bluster and has no basis in reality whatsoever.

In addition, his “right” to not be killed apparently doesn’t extent to people that embarrass the same big government that Grunwald so vigorously defends. The US government can extra-judicially assassinate anyone it likes without Grunwald getting too upset about it.

“I guess you could call me a statist,” writes Grunwald,” before adding “….we do need Big Government to attack the big collective-action problems of the modern world. Our rights are not inviolate.”

Apparently, Grunwald is under the delusion that big government regulation can eliminate accidents, murderers and terrorists.

Grunwald’s control freak argument is also constructed on the baseless assumption that terrorism actually poses a major threat to our lives, when in reality academic studies show that Americans are more likely to be killed by accident-causing deer, severe allergic reactions to peanuts, or bee stings than they are by terrorists.

Grunwald’s simpering, obsequious fealty in deference to the state and his open hostility towards cherished and hard won American freedoms is obviously central to why he was hired as a senior reporter for Time Magazine, and another perfect example of why the establishment media is rapidly losing its audience.

Senior TIME Reporter Calls for Drone Strike on Wikileaks’ Assange

Anthony Gucciardi
Infowars.com
August 18, 2013

Less than one month after writing an article advocating the creation of a 1984-style police state within the US, TIME Magazine’s senior correspondent Michael Grunwald now says he ‘can’t wait’ to cheer on the death of Wikileak’s Julian Assange. In fact, he specifically can’t wait to support a drone strike on Assange.

It’s essential to remember that this is the very same individual who wrote what very well may be among the most moronic and brainwashed articles in recent history, entitled ‘Tread on Me: The Case for Freedom From Terrorist Bombings, School Shootings and Exploding Factories’. And in this article, Grunwald effectively attaches himself to everything that is wrong with the mainstream left and right parties — all at once.

But we’ll get to how Grunwald says we need the government to protect us from everything like natural disasters and terrorists in a minute.

Despite deleting the Tweet after sending it out, likely because he realized the response of rational individuals would be to criticize him, various Twitter users were able to capture and re-Tweet the 140 character death fantasy over Wikileaks’ Julian Assange. The Tweet, as shown in a screenshot below, read:

“I can’t wait to write a defense of the drone strike that takes out Julian Assange

michael-grunwald-assange-death

Because nothing is more satisfying than sending out a predator drone to murder an investigative journalist slash whistleblower, right Michael? This Tweet truly sounds like it’s a parody of the Obama White House propaganda factory, acting as if whistleblowers are the real threat to the American people. Because the concern is certainly not based around Obama going around with secret orders and starting proxy wars with Russia via the arming of Syrian rebels in Syria.

No way, it’s the investigative journalists we need to watch out for.

GRUNWALD SAYS MORE GOVT NEEDED TO PROTECT FROM NATURAL DISASTERS, TERRORISTS

Essentially, Grunwald is like a real life example of exactly what the government wishes everyone would model themselves after: a brainwashed (or maybe he’s just faking it) and afraid citizen who simply cannot wait to give up his rights to Obama in order to keep us safe. According to Grunwald, we need our bloated government to protect us from everything. Not just shadowy terrorists, like the Boston bombing terrorist incident that Grunwald argues could have been prevented if we gave up more rights to the government, but natural disasters as well.

In his tremendously Orwellian article, which is  featured on the TIME website, Grunwald writes:

“We know our government is fallible, because it’s made up of people, but we still count on it to protect us from terrorists, from psychos with guns, from exploding factories. We also need it to protect us from floods and wildfires, from financial meltdowns and climate change. We can’t do that kind of thing ourselves.”

My suggestion? I recommend Grunwald drops to his knees and join others in direct prayer to Obama, who can provide for us in these troubled times and save us from wildfires and climate change. Because only then will we truly be safe from such travesties. Well, that and giving up all of our civil liberties.

But to top it all off, Grunwald’s book ‘The New Deal’ is an ode to Obama’s economic policy and its ‘anti-recession’ measures. As quoted from its description:

“ He describes the discussions and debates that lead to the government’s anti-recession measures such as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Taking a positive review of the President’s efforts, Grumwald defends the economic measures as full of important, long-term investments while charging Republican Party opponents as being hypocritical and self-serving.”

GRUNWALD WINS 2013 OBAMA WORSHIP AWARD

As you are likely aware, I do not subscribe to the left nor the right, and instead align myself with the third party of Reality. That said, it is extremely clear that Grunwald is either highly brainwashed by the Big Daddy government system or simply spinning his work to fit the current propaganda spewed by the Obama administration. So for his continued efforts to support the failed policies of Obama and the ultimate creation of a 1984-style police state, Igrant Grunwald the highly prestigious ‘Obama Worship Award’ for 2013.

Joining the ranks of the young child in a wife beater praying to Obama, Oprah, and a select few others, Grunwald is now being properly honored for his hard work against the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights at large. Thank you, Michael Grunwald.
