Crooner Tony Bennett: Today"s Music Is "Terrible"

If you think the music you’re hearing on the radio is terrible these days, take comfort in knowing that Tony Bennett – a 17-time Grammy-winning jazz singer – agrees.

“The songs that are written today, most of them are terrible,” Bennett told BBC Radio 4 on Thursday. “It’s a very bad period, musically, throughout the world for popular music.

It’s not necessarily the artists’ fault, though. Bennett, who is releasing an upcoming “big swing” jazz album with “musical Picasso” Lady Gaga, blames the money-hungry labels producing the crappy hits.

“They think the public is ignorant, so their attitude is, ‘Don’t give them anything intelligent, because it won’t sell,’” Bennett continued. “I grew up in an era where the record companies just sold records to everybody, and the whole family bought songs. Today, record companies are failing because they are putting their accent just on the young, and I think that’s rather silly. They’re missing out on thousands of people that would love to buy records but they don’t buy them because they don’t have a lasting quality.”

The 87-year-old crooner has been pumping out hits since 1951, starting with “Because of You.” Bennett doesn’t plan on stopping until his body does.

“I’ll call it a day when I die,” Bennett said. “It’s a wonderful occupation for me. I’ve never worked a day in my life.”

A terrible approach to landing. Good aircraft bad Piloting!!

posted on Sep, 13 2013 @ 06:50 AM

Gotta wonder what the flight attendant said afterwards….if she could still speak?

It’s a video that makes pilots cringe and prompts airline passengers to question the wisdom of flying on regional carriers. A Swiss BAe 146/Avro RJ four-engine jet made a rough landing at London City Airport, slamming onto the runway under what appear to be crosswind conditions. The 48-second video then shows the regional jet skidding and bouncing to a stop.

Good landing gear they put on that aircraft…!

At my airline we ended up having to fire a Carrier Qualified Naval Pilot due to his inability to land in a cross wind. His landings with the MD-80, even after 3 times more training were never as bad as the one in the following video!

And this is the way it should be done…wonderful cockpit scenes to landing

Sunday Talk: A mind is a terrible thing to waste

There are a great many things that the conservative brain just can’t seem to wrap itself around.

First and foremost is the presidency of Barack Obama.

How this foreign born, Sharia-loving, rodeo clown-hating Marxist ever got elected once (let alone twice) is well beyond the grasp of your average Republican town hall attendee (Hint: it involves the use of a green screen and Photoshop).

Besides this concrete example, there are various abstract concepts that tend to confound GOPers, among them: crime; economics; moderation; science; fair elections; compromise; media bias; hypocrisy; polling; racism; and irony.

And don’t even get them started on impeachment.
