Security Risks for Mobile Laptop Users

There are two reasonably commonsense things that may compromise security for mobile workers that may be so very simple they\’re completely overlooked. One of those is somebody looking over your shoulder while you are on the web. The other one is the use of social marketing websites like Facebook. Both can compromise data and can have totally different negative results.

Somebody simply watching you type and reading on the screen can capture logins, usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and more. Somebody can zoom in on your screen from far away to see it, snap a picture of it or film it, even if there is no one right behind you.

While this might appear not likely to you, consider that not everyone is after business intelligence. Somebody may just be expecting to get your ATM card number while you are buying books on Amazon or music on iTunes. Or they might desire your Amazon or iTunes info so they can download books and music on your account.

Be aware of your environment. Use a screen filter that hides the screen from the sides. Or utilize a rugged laptop with software that blurs the information when you look away, or perhaps monitors through a video camera for some other person having a look at the screen and blurs it when it detects someone.

Except for the viruses that sometimes burn thru Facebook like wildfires, there are more dangers implicit in using social networking for business reasons. If you work for company A, the bosses of your competitor at company B may very well be monitoring your online behaviour. If you\’ve got your privacy set so your profile and information aren\’t public, you could feel safe. But how well do you actually know all your site chums?

Whether you use a laptop or an old desktop, guard the data you post to networking sites about where you are, what you\’ve been doing and what\’s going on within your company.
