107 year-old in SWAT shootout

A 107-year-old Arkansas man has been killed after opening fire on SWAT police responding to reports of a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived at the house in the city of Pine Bluff on Saturday evening local time, suspect Monroe Isadore refused to surrender after the two victims he is claimed to have assaulted were led safely out of the house.

Local media organisation The Pine Bluff Commercial reports that Isadore fired several shots through his bedroom door where he had barricaded himself when police approached.

No police were hit by the gunfire.

SWAT officers were called to the scene and attempted to negotiate with the centenarian.

A remote camera was slipped into the room and revealed Isadore was armed with a pistol.

The SWAT team attempted to subdue the man with gas after he refused to respond to negotiations.

He opened fire once again.

When SWAT officers then broke open the bedroom door, they returned fire and killed the 107-year-old.

No further details are yet available.
