- The White House says the state visit will be rescheduled
- Recent disclosures alleged NSA spying in the South American country
(CNN) — Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has postponed her scheduled state visit to meet with President Barack Obama next month because of National Security Agency intelligence activities in the South American country, the White House said Tuesday.
Rousseff had planned to come to Washington on October 23, but she and Obama “agreed to postpone” the visit because they don’t want it to be “overshadowed by a single bilateral issue, no matter how important or challenging the issue may be,” a White House statement said, adding the trip would be rescheduled.
Brazil’s government has protested to Washington about recent disclosures of U.S. spying. The White House statement said Obama has ordered a thorough review of American intelligence activities, but acknowledged that would take months.
