Conservative radio host Glenn Beck on Tuesday accused celebrity scientist Bill Nye of trying to silence the teaching of creationism as science just like the Catholic Church had tried to deny that the Earth was not the center of the Universe by imprisoning Galileo.
In a short video posted to YouTube last year, Nye had called on parents to stop teaching their children to deny evolution.
“And I say to the grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine, but don’t make your kids do it because we need them,” Nye said. “We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need people that can—we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems.”
On his Tuesday Internet broadcast, Beck said that Nye was one of the voices who want to “segregate an entire group of people.”
“How’s he going to look?” he asked. “Is he going to look like the people who threw Galileo up?”
Beck added that former Vice President Al Gore was going to “look like the biggest joke in the world” 30 years from now because of his belief in climate change.
“Because they’re not having an open debate, they’re forcing it on people,” Beck insisted. “We can debate it. I’ve even said, if you don’t look at the thermometer, you’re an idiot.”
“But if you don’t buy into it every step of the way, well then, you’re a holocaust denier.”

Tomorrow night, CNN will feature the odd spectacle of its employee S.E. Cupp interviewing Glenn Beck, her boss at The Blaze, where she also serves as a contributor.
According to an article on The Blaze promoting the interview, “It is likely the two will discuss Beck’s latest book, ‘Miracles and Massacres: True and Untold Stories of the Making of America,’ the creation of TheBlaze and current events.”
Considering Cupp’s relationship with Beck, it’s unlikely he’s due for a primetime grilling on CNN. In the event she wants the interview to be more than an exercise in self-promotion, Media Matters came up with a handful of questions for Cupp to ask Beck:

“History is repeating itself,” Glenn Beck said on his program. “And we can either learn from it and prosper or we can become another lesson for future generations in possibly a new republic, if it is one, to come.”
From The Blaze:
Glenn Beck shared the history of the little-known Jay Treaty on his television show Monday, having been told by a listener that it resembles “what is happening right now.”
Beck agreed, and began: “John Jay was the first Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. President George Washington sent him to negotiate a treaty with the British. It was in the mid 1790′s and there were still several conflicts between America and Britain and again, we were on the verge of war.”
Beck said some of the most pressing issues at the time included the full evacuation of remaining British troops and the British acknowledgement of freedom of the seas.
Godspeed, Glenn Beck!!
