3 killed in Las Vegas car-to-car shootout

The deadly shooting and crash involving six vehicles along the Las Vegas Strip in the US state of Nevada on February 21, 2013 left three dead and four injured.

Three people have been killed and at least four injured during a car-to-car shooting and crash in the US city of Las Vegas.

The deadly incident involving six vehicles occurred along the Las Vegas Strip in the US state of Nevada at about 4:20 a.m. local time (1220 GMT) on Thursday, police said.

“Before 4:30 a.m. this morning there was apparently a rolling gun-battle on the strip,” said a police spokesperson.

Witnesses said the incident involved a black Range Rover as it opened fire on a Maserati. The Range Rover then escaped.

Following the shooting, the Maserati crashed into a taxi, which burst into flames, and hit another four cars.

“The Strip is a busy place,” said police, explaining that there are plenty of eyewitnesses to help capture the person responsible for the crime, though the identity and motives have not been determined.

The incident took place amid growing fears in the United States over gun violence.

On December 14, 2012, twenty children and six adult victims were fatally shot by a gunman – who later killed himself – at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in the US state of Connecticut. Earlier in the day, the assailant had killed his mother in another location.

Over 2,030 people have been killed by firearms in the US since the Sandy Hook carnage.
