Pussy Riot whipped by Cossacks in Sochi performance fail

Published time: February 19, 2014 14:57

Members of the scandalous Pussy Riot band have been attacked by people in Cossacks uniforms, with batons, pepper spray and whips, as the young women attempted to perform a song near the seaport in the Olympic host city, Sochi.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina said on twitter that the “attack” occurred as they, along with several other band members, were singing their song in front of a banner advertising the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Near the Sochi 2014 banner singing ‘Putin will teach you to love fatherland’ Pussy Riot were attacked by Cossacks, whipped and thoroughly sprayed by pepper gas,” wrote Tolokonnikova, who was recently released from jail.

On Wednesday, the group had gathered in a downtown Sochi restaurant, about 30km from where the Winter Olympics are being held, according to Associated Press. The activists ran out wearing their trademark ‘uniform’ – brightly colored dresses, tights and balaklavas – and were approached by about a dozen Cossacks.

Protesters in Ukraine dig in, erect more barricades after talks fail

Protesters in Ukraine erected more street barricades and occupied a government ministry building Friday after crisis talks between opposition leaders and President Viktor Yanukovych failed.

About 1,000 demonstrators moved away from Kyiv’s Independence Square in response to opposition calls in the early hours of Friday, and began to erect new barricades closer to presidential headquarters.

Masked protesters, some carrying riot police shields seized as trophies, stood guard as others piled up sandbags packed with frozen snow to form new ramparts across the road leading down into the square.

Opposition leader Vitali Klitschko, after leaving a second round of talks with Yanukovych empty handed, late on Thursday voiced fears the impasse could now lead to further bloodshed.

At least three protesters have been killed so far — two from gunshot wounds — since clashes between protesters and riot police turned violent earlier this week.

More from GlobalPost: What we saw on the ground in bloody, violent Kyiv

“Hours of conversation were spent about nothing,” Klitschko told protesters in Independence Square. “There is no sense sitting at a negotiating table with someone who has already decided to deceive you.

“I earnestly wish that there will be no bloodshed and that people are not killed … I will survive, but I am afraid there will be deaths, I am afraid of this,” the boxer-turned-politician said.

Three opposition politicians — Klitschko, former economy minister Arseny Yatsenyuk and far-right nationalist Oleh Tyahnibok — had tried to wring concessions from Yanukovych that would end two months of street protests against his rule.

A group of protesters took control of the main agricultural ministry building in the center. “We need the place for our people to warm up,” a local protest leader was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.

Here is a live stream from “EuroMaidan”:

More from GlobalPost: Ukraine police deny responsibility for gunshot deaths

Meanwhile, radical protesters near Dynamo Kyiv football stadium — the new flashpoint in the city — cranked up their action, setting tires ablaze again and sending a pall of black smoke over the area.

There were no signs that protesters were heeding an appeal from general prosecutor Viktor Pshonka who said early on Friday that those so far arrested would be treated leniently by the courts if protest action was halted.

There are reports that protests are spreading to other provincial areas.

“Several cities rebelled today,” Klitschko said during his late-night speech. “Tomorrow there will be more of them.”

Thousands stormed regional administration headquarters in Rivne in western Ukraine on Thursday, breaking down doors and demanding the release of people detained in the unrest there, UNIAN news agency reported.

In the town of Cherkasy, 125 miles south of Kyiv, about 1,000 protesters took over the first two floors of the main administration building and lit fires outside the building.

In Kyiv, scores on both sides have been injured — many with eye injuries caused by flying projectiles and police rubber bullets.

Hundreds of thousands took to the streets in the capital after Yanukovych backed away from signing a free trade deal with the European Union, which many people saw as the key to a European future, in favor of financial aid from Ukraine’s old Soviet master Russia.

But the movement has since widened into broader protests against perceived misrule and corruption in the Yanukovych leadership.

Protesters have been enraged too by sweeping anti-protest legislation that was rammed through parliament last week by Yanukovych loyalists in the assembly.

Earlier on Thursday, Yanukovych had suggested he might be prepared to make concessions to the opposition when he called for a special session of parliament next week to consider the opposition demands and find a way out of the crisis.

But this did not impress opposition leaders.

Underlining the level of mistrust between the government and opposition, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on Thursday accused protesters of trying to stage a coup d’etat and dismissed the possibility of an early presidential election to resolve the standoff.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden phoned Yanukovych on Thursday and warned him that failing to de-escalate the standoff could have “consequences,” the White House said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed anger over the way laws had been rammed through calling into question basic freedoms, while French President Francois Hollande called on Ukrainian authorities to “rapidly seek dialogue”.

U.S. Republicans to keep cuts if budget talks fail -Boehner

WASHINGTON Thu Nov 21, 2013 12:11pm EST

WASHINGTON Nov 21 (Reuters) – U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said on Thursday he hopes budget talks can lead to a fiscal 2014 spending plan, but if they fail Republicans intend to pursue a stop-gap measure that keeps automatic “sequester” spending cuts in place.

If the talks fail to provide government funding ahead of a Jan. 15 deadline, Boehner said he hopes the House is prepared to pass a temporary spending bill at levels set by the Budget Control Act, which specifies a $ 967 billion discretionary spending level after the automatic cuts start in January.

Elizabeth Warren Slams Regulators for Keeping Banks "Too Big to Fail"

Five years after the financial crash, most congressional Democrats seem content to live with the status quo. They tackled financial reform in 2010 when they passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and they’d prefer to leave the nitty-gritty details of keeping banks in check to federal agencies rather than pass new legislation.

But Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) won’t be so easily assuaged. On Tuesday, she delivered a speech to a room full of academics, consumer advocates, and senate aides, that criticized federal regulators for failing to meet the deadlines to write rules regulating banks, as outlined in Dodd-Frank. “Since when does Congress set deadlines, watch regulators miss most of them, and then take that failure as a reason not to act?” she said. “I thought that if the regulators failed, it was time for Congress to step in. That’s what oversight means. And that’s certainly a principle that would have served our country well prior to the crisis.”

She noted that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the agency she conceived of and helped guide to formation, has met its deadlines for writing rules. But the other federal agencies have been an utter failure at keeping to the schedule laid out by Dodd-Frank. A recent report by Davis Polk found that 60 percent of deadlines had been missed. Thirty percent of Dodd-Frank-mandated rules haven’t even been proposed yet, let alone finalized.

Warren spoke at an event assessing the state of financial reform hosted by Americans for Financial Reform (AFR) and the Roosevelt Institute. The two organizations released a 125-page report Tuesday outlining where Dodd-Frank has succeeded and failed, with a heavy emphasis on where the act failed to tame the biggest banks’ risky activities and how they still expose the entire economy to risk should they collapse.

Was the Attempted War with Syria Meant to Fail in Order to Shift the Entire World Against the U.S.?

When the war with Syria failed miserably and all the escalated rhetoric for a global war came to a direct halt, people believed that our leaders listened and caved in to the demands of We the People. We thought we had the power to finally push back these elitists who have manipulated us all this time. While it may seem that we did just that, was it just another part of the elitists plan? Was it both a distraction and intentionally done in order to make the U.S. out to be the enemy and to turn the U.N. and the entire world against the U.S.?

If so, it would symbolize the dramatic shift from military warfare to social warfare. All the elites have done so far and are continuing to do is implement a social change rather than a military change, as social control rather than military dominance seems to be the key here.

During the events leading up to an all-out war with Syria, Putin and Snowden were portrayed as saviors and heroes to our country and the world. Putin got world leaders together and made Obama look like a deliberate fool in front of the entire world and Snowden supposedly exposed the NSA to both the U.S. and everywhere else. Now, Merkel and other world leaders are angered by it in an almost orchestrated fashion.

With NSA spying on people, our treasonous government issuing threats, using false evidence and funding Syrian Rebels (aka the enemy, Al-CIA-da), our whole criminal government’s agenda, as well as the British agenda is being publicly exposed. Then you have the Prime Minister being voted down in parliament for the first time in decades, China and the BRIC countries creating an alternate currency, an alternate Internet and handing over more power and control to the U.N. This ALL had to be a part of their NWO plan!

When Syria intentionally worked with Russia after Putin, in an almost pre-meditated movement, jumped at the moment of subscribing to Obama’s demands of having Syria submit its chemical weapons to the U.N., it all seemed too convenient and designed to make it look like a “miracle” had been pulled off at the last minute.

So now that the “miracle” was pulled off, the momentum and social mechanism began to shift and did a complete 180 degree turn, as the Syrian rebels, funded by Al-CIA-da and our infamous government, attacked the U.N. inspectors. There’s no way this also could have been a mistake or a desperate move. It had to have been done for a reason which may have been to create a social change and to turn the world against the U.S. and therefore create further animosity towards America.

Back home, we have plenty of distractions of our own. The threat of drills becoming real, the ever-growing police state tactics, illegal immigration, jobs, government shutdown, social disorder, as well as secession movements, the rejection of the U.N. Small Arms Treaty and the biggest distraction of all, Obamacare!

Obamacare is probably never meant to launch, as it seems to be merely a program designed to be the breaking point for the coming war with the U.N. No one wants it and We the People are ready to go to war over it if we have to.

In the meantime, the U.N. is trying to put pressure on our government to follow their U.N. global plan and charter. Obama’s role as Hitler is soon coming to an end and the U.N. troops are just waiting to step in. Our country’s fragile bubble state is ready to pop!

In addition, don’t forget we have Fukushima radiation and the HAARP weapon to worry about, which was also designed to destroy America. There is a reason why the government has stockpiled and set up underground bunkers for the past decade or so. They knew this would happen, as they planned it. An extreme false flag is coming. The surface will most likely be vaporized, while those underground will be watching the show on their monitors in their bunkers, waiting for the dust to clear so they can come out of their hole in the ground and claim their fame to whatever is left of it.

In analyzing the secession movements, although they may be a sign of rebelliousness against our government, they also seem to be used to divide us like the FEMA regions, in order to make it easier for the U.N. to come in and take us apart piece by piece. Furthermore, since the revolution will not be televised, they probably feel that by doing this, they will be able to accomplish their goal.

This is why it is urgent that we take back the MSM airwaves and not just use the alternative media outlets. I cannot emphasize enough to everyone how important it is that we broadcast the truth on the MSM airwaves, as it will not only be an extreme boost in morale factor to America (think of the movie, “V for Vendetta”), but it will be seen as one to the people who are being manipulated by their own governments throughout the rest of the world as well. Think about it. It could be hailed as the greatest pinnacle in the history of the entire world!

If we can expose their program on the MSM, the elitist rats will have no choice but to run, as their psychological manipulation through fear and torture will immediately come to an end, as their propaganda machine (their mechanism of social warfare) will explode in their face. The social war will be over and we will be free once again.

Remember, this is more of a social communications war than a conventional military one. As in all wars, whether foreign or domestic, the first thing to capture is the communications and our situation as American Nationals is no exception.

Like Hitler’s turning point in WWII at Normandy and how the Allied forces pushed back Germany and eventually setup the U.N., Obama’s turning point seemed to be at Syria and now the world government, world media and even RT News is doing whatever they can to turn the countries of the world on America and join together to push America back and take us over, so they can complete their NWO global government. History seems to be repeating itself right before our eyes.

It’s no mistake that our borders are open and that our ships are still in the Middle East. We are going to be invaded. It’s as inevitable as our coming financial collapse. The only thing that can stop it is if We the People rise up and take back control of our communications and our country. Otherwise, those who have firearms in our country will be seen as the enemy to the new U.N. government. Those who do not follow the U.N. world government, even if they also do not follow our treasonous government, will be executed. That is why they seem to be trying to get more sheeple to embrace Putin and the U.N. This is controlled opposition and is a grave threat that must be eliminated.

We are being setup for a U.N. global takeover and anyone who does not embrace the blue helmets will be purged from the NWO system.

At this point, it is imperative that we regain control of our MSM communications, arrest our treasonous government, bring our troops home and secure our borders with whatever troops, patriots and able-bodied people we have left.

We the People are being setup for a massive attack. It’s up to us to decide the fate our country and our lives.

War is coming and is already knocking at our door. It’s time for us to place our firearms through the peephole, cock them and get ready to pull the trigger.

So what’s it gonna be? Are we men or mice?

‘Inhuman sanctions’ by US fail to achieve political goals, as people suffer

Published time: September 23, 2013 12:24

Washington seems certain that exerting sanctions on countries is the safest way to achieve their foreign policy goals. In reality economic and political sanctions do little to control the governments they target, hitting ordinary citizens hard instead.

“The aim of sanctions is to harm the state. But the real victims are ordinary, regular people. Experience has shown that there’s a huge wedge between what ordinary people experience under sanctions, and what the elite do,” RT’s Middle East correspondent Paula Slier reported.

One country against which the US has introduced a wide range of sanctions is Iran. While there’s no concrete proof that Tehran has been busy developing nuclear weapons (it insists its atomic program is for peaceful purposes only), due to international sanctions, the country is struggling to source necessary medicine to treat cancer patients.

Meanwhile, cancer is the third cause of premature death in Iran, with 30,000 people a year now dying from the disease, according to www.ncr-iran.org. Furthermore, a number of these people can ill afford increasingly expensive treatment.

Widespread pollution, excessive use of chemical fertilizers containing cadmium and nitrate, as well as the high psychological pressure of life, have been blamed for the soaring cancer statistics.

“It is my second chemotherapy program. Previously, each session cost approximately 300 dollars. These days it costs about 700 dollars,” pensioner Mahammad Rhidai, who is a cancer patient, told RT. “It is also a challenge to get the medication, because you have to go to almost every drugstore asking for them and also because the prices are way too high.”

Doctors are also sounding the alarm: the trade embargo has caused shortages of food and medical supplies. The director of a cancer center in Iran says he has faced lots of problems getting modern equipment to treat cancer patients.

“There are numerous obstacles for importing the equipment due to the sanctions in place against Iran. We have some equipment but it requires spare parts that we can’t get anywhere. A failure of any single piece or part of this equipment causes us to stop operating the entire machine,” Dr. Kaziminyan said.

Iran is looking to reach out to the world’s powers to revive nuclear talks, in a bid to resolve the global standoff that has dragged on for years.

Ahead of his upcoming address to the UN General Assembly, the country’s new leader Hassan Rouhani pledged not to develop nuclear weapons, demanding the West make concessions and ease the painful sanctions.

“I urge my counterparts to seize the opportunity presented by Iran’s recent election. I urge them to make the most of the mandate for prudent engagement that my people have given me and to respond genuinely to my government’s efforts to engage in constructive dialogue. Most of all, I urge them to look beyond the pines and be brave enough to tell me what they see — if not for their national interests, then for the sake of their legacies, and our children and future generations,” he wrote in an opinion essay published in The Washington Post on September 20.

In August, the president of Iran’s Academy of Medical Sciences slammed Washington for exacting “sadistic” revenge on Iranian children through their “inhuman sanctions” against the nation.

“The applied sanctions have caused and will continue to cause acute shortages of necessary food and medicine,” Dr. Alireza Marandi wrote in a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

“The sanctions are also making these essential items increasingly more expensive. As a result, these indispensable supplies have become inaccessible to the most vulnerable of society, including children, mothers, and the elderly, as well as disease-specific and cancer patients. This has literally stopped many patients from being able to prepare or collect essential medications required for their treatment; we are, therefore, witnessing more and more cases of gradual malnutrition and death of children and of patients with specific diseases,” he explained.

Dr. Marandi noted that for over three decades, Iran implemented successful healthcare plans and programs, backed by the World Health Organization, which had “significantly improved the overall health of the entire nation”.

“These achievements are now seriously threatened by the escalation of barbaric sanctions in the past few weeks, particularly by the US government,” he added.

Meanwhile, an expert in global financial markets, Patrick Young argues that in the modern world we live in, any sanctions, even the strictest ones, eventually prove useless.

“The issue with sanctions is that ultimately in an inter-connected world where we have so much globalization, it’s almost impossible for any country even for the hyper-power of the United States of America to be able to successfully stop trade and transaction to successfully happen with different countries. Therefore the end result ultimately has only been to impoverish ordinary citizens rather than really hitting the elite, or ultimately actually endangering the hold-on power of the same elite,” Young told RT.

He notes that the situation with sanctions being applied to any country by the US is that the country in question seems to have lost in the court of American public opinion.

“Therefore we see endlessly sanctions being applied to those nations that are seen as being pariahs, whether that’s being manipulated by political figures or not, and ultimately it causes a problem for the American media who have been overall regarding the idea that this country is in some way a threat to either children or its citizens, or overall is precluding freedom and democracy in that nation,” Mr Young added.

For instance, North Korea’s nuclear aspirations make the US feel uneasy, so the country has been slapped with trade and military restrictions. Although international relief organizations decried the sanctions as inhumane, restrictions still stay in place. Pyongyang has showed no sign of abandoning its nuclear program.

According to the British Medical Journal, as many as a million people died from malnutrition-related causes in North Korea in the 1990s, and the situation hasn’t improved much since then. The reclusive nation’s economy is struggling to survive, and its agriculture has suffered major blows from natural disasters.

Syria, too, has fallen foul of the United States. Trade and economic restrictions on this middle-eastern country are adding to the burden on an economy, already ravaged by a civil war that has lasted for over two years. More than 100,000 people have been killed in the conflict, according to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

“Every day people there have to face not just the danger of being killed by a stray bullet, but also the fear that they won’t be able to put bread on the table: access to staple foods has been curtailed by the trade restrictions, prices have sky-rocketed, and life has turned into a struggle for survival,” RT’s Irina Galushko added.

Cuba is another country against which Washington has implemented its sanctions. No nukes here, just a six-decade association with communism and as a result, no trade with the US. Many say the country’s economy is floundering.

The embargo costs Cuba roughly $ 690 million a year. But the losses for the US are between $ 1.2 and $ 3.6 billion annually.

But again, those affected are the most vulnerable in society, particularly Cuba’s elderly, as the country has a rationing system that gives preferential treatment to women and children.

“Those who have been hit hardest seem to be men and the elderly,” RT’s correspondent says.
