  • Tonight on the H2 network, the third season of America’s Book of Secrets opens with what should be a controversial episode: The show has talked to dozens of former members and experts to reveal the secrets of Scientology. One of those experts was Raw Story executive editor and Scientology watchdog Tony Ortega, who told H2 that Scientology is in the grips of several different crises that has it on the brink.

Scientology grew out of the writings of scienc fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, and reached its greatest extent, about 100,000 members, in the 1980s. But major defections by top officials and other problems have it in the news more than ever.

America’s Book of Secrets takes a look at the hidden origins, strict doctrine, secret language and celebrity allure of the organization and how it dominates the lives of its followers.

Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Scientology’s current leader, David Miscavige, describes her difficult experiences and escape from the organization.

Former Scientology executive, Mark Rathbun, demonstrates and explains Scientology’s most revered spiritual technology: the ‘E-Meter.’

Raw Story’s Tony Ortega explains the draw and appeal of Scientology that allows them to recruit new members and keep their coffers full.

America’s Book of Secrets airs tonight 10:00-11:00PM ET

Gingrich, Graham Warn of Military Standoff if US Fails to Help Ukraine

Two prominent Republicans are warning that failure of the United States to deter Russia in Ukraine will only embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin and could end in a military standoff.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia write in an op-ed on CNN.com that failure of the United States and Western Europe to act could give Putin the green light to “test our resolve” in Latvia, Lithuania, or Estonia.

Those three former Soviet republics are now members of NATO, which all other NATO members, including the United States, are bound by treaty to protect with military force.

“Trouble there could ‘reset’ us right back to direct warfare with Russia,” the two write. “That would be a disaster and very, very dangerous.”

Passivity, they say, is the path most likely to lead to war.

“The Obama administration should grant the request for military aid immediately — before it’s too late for deterrence,” they write.

Gingrich and Graham also call for President Barack Obama to immediately issue an executive order approving the export of American natural gas to 20 countries awaiting bureaucratic approval.

“The highest priority should go to approving exports to Europe, where in many places, Russia has a near-monopoly on natural gas,” they said.

They also call on Obama to issue an executive order approving 24 pending liquefied natural gas facilities they say have been delayed by “bureaucratic red tape.”

Europe is heavily dependent on natural gas from Russia, leading many Republicans to call on increased production in the United States to lessen Putin’s stranglehold on Europe, which has been less willing to buy into sanctions against Russia for fear of it holding back energy exports.

The op-ed notes that while Obama hosted Ukraine’s interim Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk last week as a show of support and Secretary of State John Kerry announced “very serious” steps if Russia does not back down by Monday from its attempt to annex Crimea, those words must be backed by action.

“Theodore Roosevelt is famous for a foreign policy he summarized as ‘speak softly and carry a big stick,’” the pair wrote. “Obama’s foreign policy is closer to ‘scream loudly and carry no stick.’”

O"Reilly to Jarrett: Get Jay-Z"s help

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly told White House adviser Valerie Jarrett that the Obama administration has to enlist the help of “gangsta rappers” if it really wants to help young men of color.

“You are going to have to get people like Jay-Z, all right, Kanye West, all of these gangsta rappers to knock it off. That’s number one,” said O’Reilly, who attended the launch of President Barack Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative Thursday.

Young men “idolize these guys with the hats on backwards, and the terrible rock — rap lyrics and the drugs and all that,” O’Reilly added, urging Jarrett to persuade “gansta rappers,” athletes and “tattoo guys,” to go on television and tell those who look up to them to “knock it off” and end their destructive behaviors.

O’Reilly also told Jarrett he wants Michelle Obama to come on his show and say, “You teenage girls. You stop having sex. You stop getting pregnant.”

(Also on POLITICO: Obama boosts minority youth)

Jarrett said she thinks it’s a better idea if the first lady spends time with young girls one-on-one, noting her mentorship program.

“I think it’s a great pitch to have her come on Fox,” she said.

O’Reilly said he thinks My Brother’s Keeper will work, but it will work faster if the White House reaches young people in a way that’s “so personal.” “You’re not getting gritty enough,” he said.

Jarrett also defended the proposed cuts to the military in the Pentagon’s fiscal 2015 budget. “Not that long ago you were telling us how we needed to get our fiscal house in order and tighten our belts and that requires a lot of sacrifices. But we’re not sacrificing the safety or the security of our country,” she said. “There’s nothing that the president takes more seriously than his responsibility as commander in chief.”

Courts Help Gays Pimp Their Sons

February 25, 2014

ragan.jpg

Divorced mothers who protect their sons from abuse by a gay father

are deemed “crazy” by the courts and denied custody and access.

When Caren Ragan, left, tried to take her son away, she was hunted

down like a terrorist and jailed. She says 2.2 million mothers have been

denied access to their sons.

“The judge told me he was a dictator and didn’t have to follow any of the laws of the USA and that my son

needed to get used to a homosexual lifestyle, and he then ordered no contact between me and my son.”

by Caren Ragan

(henrymakow.com)

The media and our government has been turning a blind eye to the plight of our children.

During my divorce I was threatened with losing custody if I didn’t agree to 50/50 custody so he could pay less child support.

I agreed for I feared my husband would hurt me after he exposed me and my unborn child to AIDS without my knowledge through sexual activities

He was a wealthy man and didn’t want to let go of control and began a campaign of psychological abuse using my child as a pawn

My 11 year old son reported that his father’s gay lover was massaging him in bed with his underwear on, and that he no longer wanted to visit his father’s house while this man was there as he gave him the creeps and hated him.

I tried to speak to father, but he said he wanted his son to get used to another man touching him, that it was natural.

My attorney brought this to judge’s attention and was immediately shutdown. Judge wrote an order stating I was a liar and she  didn’t believe anything, and she wouldn’t let me or my son testify anymore even though he was 11-years-old.

My son who was a big boy started to have physical fights with his father on his days of visitation as he didn’t want to be around his boyfriend

I was called into court on two hours notice while my attorney was out of town, locked in the judges chambers, accused of being crazy. My ex and his three lawyers testified against me, and the judge wouldn’t allow me one one word in my defence.

At that point out of sheer desperation and in fear for the damage to my son as his father threatened that if he ever spoke about the massages again, his mother would go to jail and he would be put in foster care I offered to give his father custody as that was the only way I could think of protecting him from his father putting him in foster care or worse.

In the end I wasn’t found crazy, but was accused of Parent Alienation, even though the man my son was complaining about wasn’t his father, but his gay lover.

The judge told me he was a dictator and didn’t have to follow any of the laws of the USA and that my son needed to get used to a homosexual lifestyle, and he then ordered no contact between me and my son.

My son begged me to help him, so we ran away. Bounty hunters were hired; private investigators followed my entire family; all our phones were tapped; my families bank accounts were frozen, and my parents mail was censored through the police before they could receive it.

Finally in Feb 11, 2002 I was placed on FBI 10 most wanted list with Osama bin Laden.

I returned myself and my son after judge was removed from my case for bias, but it was too late, as one judge tried to protect the actions of the other judges.

I admitted to running away with my child “interference with child custody” and was told I could use a defense of necessity.

When it came time for my criminal trial the judge asked jurors back in 2006 if anyone didn’t believe in gay marriage, those who didn’t were immediately dismissed from my case. Only five women were picked, none of them having children and one man with one child.

The judge never allowed me my defence of necessity as to why I was scared for the life of my child and my life, so without hearing that important evidence or course they had to find me guilty. Again the judge was promoting a homosexual agenda, stating I had no right in deciding how my child should be raised and it was normal for fathers to touch their children sexually.

One of the jurors ended up being the best friend of the gay lover that touched my child, and the judge kept this information hidden from us. I was found guilty and given a 30 month prison sentence.

After everyone left the courtroom the judge told my lawyer and the prosecutor to make a “special deal” with me so that I would give up my appeal. Only after much convincing from my family did I give up my right to appeal. As the judge had legally erred 39 times  went to jail for six months, spent four years on house arrest and was denied no contact with my son who kept asking for me.

My case is not unusual as of this writing 2.2 million moms have been ordered no contact with their children. Many of these moms came from middle to upper income, were well educated, stay at home moms and had controlling wealthy husbands who were in charge of the finances.

My son testified against me after his father actually put him into foster care in order to make sure my son would be scared to death to tell the truth. Nancy Grace did a small section on this trial, wondering why I was put on trial.

I am a libertarian and if you worry about Obama not following the law, surely this can’t be a surprise by now. Little by little our government has been trying it’s best to take control over our children. If you think losing your doctor or healthcare is bad, imagine losing your child. This is it folks our government is already starting the practices of Nazi Germany and no one wants to see it.

As my daughter who is a lawyer stated to me, why does Obama care about the children of immigrants and allow them to break the law, but a USA mother who tries to protect her own child no one is willing to ignore the law. Quite the contrary, how dare she buck the government and save her child, what right does she have.

Enclosed is a small TV interview, and my website www.protectingmychild.org. As a Jew I ask you not to ignore this story. How many more children must be devastated, harmed, sexually abused and killed before one person in the media is willing to do an investigative report?

I think our government has reached it’s tipping point.

We Did Not ‘Lose’ Iraq But it is America’s job to help Baghdad beat back the new threat from al Qaeda

James Jeffrey
foreignpolicy.com
February 10, 2014

Editor’s note: It’s not called forever war for nothing.

Iraq has made an unwelcome return to the American public consciousness. In late December, the al Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) seized considerable territory in the predominantly Sunni Anbar province. Its gains included neighborhoods in the city of Fallujah, the site of an epic U.S. battle against al Qaeda in 2004, rekindling American fears that its old enemies have gained the upper hand in a region where the United States sacrificed so much blood and treasure.

President Barack Obama’s administration is doing the right thing by increasing intelligence and operational cooperation with the Iraqi government, sending weapons to the Iraqi army, and moving forward on attack helicopter transfers. At the same time, the administration is correctly pushing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to govern more inclusively, as his marginalization of the Sunni Arab minority has contributed to al Qaeda’s appeal among the community.

But despite Maliki’s flaws, the United States should wholeheartedly work with him in combating the jihadist threat. He is, after all, the elected leader of a critically important country, and the aid we are providing serves the vast majority of the Iraqi people in a desperate fight against a merciless enemy. It is obviously a core U.S. national interest to block al Qaeda from establishing yet another base in an ungoverned territory. This is particularly true in the case of Iraq, which if stable can provide oil exports of 6 million barrels a day by 2020 — an output that would have a hugely positive impact on the global economy. Moreover, given the American sacrifice there, failure to help defend Iraq against a sworn enemy would further undercut U.S. credibility in the Middle East.

Turning down the thermostat can help you lose weight, study says

Americans love to crank up the thermostat, especially in bitterly cold times like these.

But a new study suggests turning it down a few degrees could actually help you lose weight.

We know. Not what you wanted to hear right now.

More from GlobalPost: What is a polar vortex? (And when is it going away?)

But Dutch researchers say regular exposure to mildly cold temperatures can make your body burn more calories to keep warm.

“Since most of us are exposed to indoor conditions 90 percent of the time, it is worth exploring health aspects of ambient temperatures,” lead author Wouter van Marken Lichtenbelt told CNN. “What would it mean if we let our bodies work again to control body temperature?”

Lichtenbelt and his team have been studying the phenomena for the past 10 years.

While most animals (humans included) shiver to stay warm, another type of shivering — called non-shivering thermogenesis — occurs when the temperature is cool but not cold, according to the research.

More from GlobalPost: US job growth falters as cold weather grips the nation

That type of shivering, activating what’s called “brown fat,” can burn up to 30 percent of the body’s energy and contribute to weight loss.

Brown fat, discovered in adults in 2009, burns calories instead of storing them like white fat.

So does this mean you should crank the heat down to 55 degrees and frolic about in a tank top and underwear?

Not necessarily. It’s more theory at this point, but researchers also said it wouldn’t hurt.

“It would do no harm,” Dr. Mitchell Lazar, chief of the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of Pennsylvania, told HealthDay. “It’s worth a try for someone who is having trouble losing weight by diet and exercise alone.”
