he Hunger Games: Catching Fire isn’t just lighting up the box office. It’s also bringing the heat on social media, according to an analysis of holiday movies’ social media popularity. Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has the largest number of fans on Facebook and Twitter, 12.8 million combined, according to Wednesday numbers from ListenFirst. That’s an impressive number, but it pales in comparison to the more than 37.4 million fans across Facebook and Twitter that Twilight boasted a year ago, when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was in theaters. Still, Catching Fire managed to beat Breaking Dawn – Part 2′s opening, showing that social media isn’t everything.

The sequel to 2012 smash hit “The Hunger Games” scored the biggest November opening ever and recorded 2013′s second-biggest debut, short of the $174.1 million for superhero sequel “Iron Man 3″ in May. “Catching Fire” stars Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen, the skilled archer who becomes a beacon of hope for an oppressed society.
