Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries: Christian Businesses Must Follow Demands of Gay Customers

Townhall.com:

The owners of a Christian bakery who refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple are facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines after they were found guilty of violating the couple’s civil rights.

The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries said they found “substantial evidence” that Sweet Cakes by Melissa discriminated against the lesbian couple and violated the Oregon Equality Act of 2007, a law that protects the rights of the LGBT community.

Last year, the bakery’s owners refused to make a wedding cake for Rachel Cryer and Laurel Bowman, of Portland, citing their Christian beliefs. The couple then filed a complaint with the state.

“The investigation concludes that the bakery is not a religious institution under the law and that the business’ policy of refusing to make same-sex wedding cakes represents unlawful discrimination based on sexual orientation,” said Charlie Burr, a spokesman for the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

The backlash against Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of the bakery, was severe. Gay rights groups launched protests and pickets outside the family’s store. They threatened wedding vendors who did business with the bakery. And, Klein told me, the family’s children were the targets of death threats.

The family eventually had to close their retail shop and now operate the bakery out of their home. They posted a message vowing to stand firm in their faith. It read, in part:

“To all of you that have been praying for Aaron and I, I want to say thank you. I know that your prayers are being heard. I feel such a peace with all of this that is going on. Even though there are days that are hard and times of struggle we still feel that the Lord is in this. It is His fight and our situation is in His hands….Please continue to pray for our family. God is great, amazing and all powerful. I know He has a plan.”

Under state law, the complaint against the bakery now moves into a period of reconciliation. If they can’t reach an agreement, formal civil charges could be filed and the Kleins could face hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.

Last August, Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian told The Oregonian, their desire is to rehabilitate businesses like the one owned by the Christian couple.

“Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs, but that doesn’t mean that folks have the right to discriminate,” he told the newspaper. “The goal is never to shut down a business. The goal is to rehabilitate.”

Aaron Klein told me there will be no reconciliation and there will be no rehabilitation. He and his wife will not back down from their Christian beliefs.

IT shops face ever greater mobile demands from users

IT shops face ever greater mobile demands from users
http://pixel.quantserve.com/pixel/p-89EKCgBk8MZdE.gif

Computerworld – Nearly two-thirds of mobile device users own three or more network-connected devices, according to an online survey of 5,000
people conducted in November in the U.S. and eight other countries ( download PDF).

That finding shows just how popular smartphones, tablets and other connected devices — including cars — have become in the
past two years. And it also shows the challenges facing IT shops that manage workers who now expect to have constant network
connections in the office and while on the road.

Aruba, a networking company, commissioned the online survey, which was done by Shape the Future. In the U.S., 1,133 people
responded.

“While everybody seems to be using mobile devices, the interest now is magnified with [62%] owning three or more connected
devices,” Manav Kurana, vice president of product and solutions marketing for Aruba, said in an interview.

Among younger mobile users, ages 18 to 35, the survey found that 70% preferred Wi-Fi over any other network connection, including
3G and 4G cellular. Overall, 57% preferred Wi-Fi.

The survey also found that users are becoming more tech savvy and want their cars, homes and even their clothes to be network-connected,
Kurana said.

The survey’s findings imply that companies need to make Wi-Fi more of a “utility like air and water everywhere because that’s
how people want to connect,” Kurana said.

He said the results also imply that IT shops can cut the cord on desk phones and need to create more self-service tools to
help workers maintain their devices on their own. That also means that IT shops need to simplify mobile device operations
at work, which could require finding alternatives to complex passwords used to authenticate devices when it is hard to type
in complex passwords on small virtual keyboards, Kurana said.

IT shops also need to know there are now more opportunities to interact with workers and visitors based on their location.
“Most people will give opt-in to give their location if there’s value in doing so,” Kurana said. “On the other hand, everybody
hates having their location known without their permission.”

In addition to the U.S., other countries in the survey included the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, South Africa, Saudi
Arabia and the UAE.

Tea Party leader demands class action lawsuit against homosexuality

Rick Scarborough of Tea Party Unity and Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality would like to join forces and file a class action lawsuit against homosexuality.

Yes, they really, really want to do that.

“Peter, the whole issue of a class action lawsuit, you and I have talked about this a little bit,” Scarborough says. “I just wonder if you’ve explored that, talked to anyone about it. Obviously, statistically now even the Centers for Disease Control verifies that homosexuality much more likely leads to AIDS than smoking leads to cancer. And yet the entire nation has rejected smoking, billions of dollars are put into a trust fund to help cancer victims and the tobacco industry was held accountable for that. Any thoughts on that kind of an approach?”

“Yeah I think that’s great,” LaBarbera responds. “I would love to see it. We always wanted to see one of the kid in high school who was counseled by the official school counselor to just be gay, then he comes down with HIV. But we never really got the client for that.”

The pair also discussed the media’s reluctance to “step out and support these ex-gays” rather than “do the pro-gay thing,” and called on Fox News to lead the way.

White House: House GOP bill demands a "ransom"

The bill that House Republicans are planning to vote on Tuesday is unacceptable to President Obama, White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage said in a statement.

“The president has said repeatedly that members of Congress don’t get to demand ransom for fulfilling their basic responsibilities to pass a budget and pay the nation’s bills.  Unfortunately, the latest proposal from House Republicans does just that in a partisan attempt to appease a small group of Tea Party Republicans who forced the government shutdown in the first place,” Brundage said.

(WATCH: 3 debt default scenarios)

“Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have been working in a bipartisan, good-faith effort to end the manufactured crises that have already harmed American families and business owners,” she continued. “With only a couple days remaining until the United States exhausts its borrowing authority, it’s time for the House to do the same.”

Rand Paul Demands Obama Adhere to Congress on Syria

Current indications show House will reject White House resolution

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
September 4, 2013

Amidst signals that the White House could ignore Congress if lawmakers vote no on military intervention in Syria, Senator Rand Paul demanded that Obama adhere to such an outcome during an appearance on CNN last night.

Emphasizing that the Constitution mandates that the legislature has the final decision on war, Paul stated, “I am proud of the President for coming to Congress but….he has to say he will adhere to our verdict, he can’t come to us in theater and say you guys get to vote but it may not count if I don’t like your vote – he can’t do that.”

Responding to claims by John McCain and John Boehner that a vote against military intervention in Syria would undermine the credibility of the United States and the office of President, Paul asserted, “I take my responsibility very seriously and I’m not too concerned about the President’s public relations – I am concerned though about young men and young women who serve in our military and I vote as if it’s my son or your son going to war.”

“I can’t send them to war to fight for stalemate, I can’t send them to war with no clear military objective, and I can’t send anybody to war when our goal is not victory. Our goal is stalemate, they’ve already said they don’t even want to topple Assad, they just want a negotiated settlement after they blast him with a few bombs – I can’t see anyone’s son or daughter fighting for that,” added Paul.

According to a whip list compiled by the Hill, current indications show that Congress will vote no on Obama’s resolution to attack Syria. While the Senate vote is already in the bag, 44 members of the House are either “no” or “leaning no” compared to just 15 who are “yes” or “leaning yes”. 31 Congressmembers are “undecided” or “unclear,” according to the Hill.

However, as we highlighted on Monday, both Secretary of State John Kerry and another State Department official have indicated that Obama will go ahead with military intervention anyway even if Congress does not give the green light.

Senator Paul ridiculed Secretary of State John Kerry’s assertion that cruise missile attacks on Syria would not be an act of war, remarking “to say this is not war is just plain not accurate,” warning that so-called “limited strikes” could easily expand into a regional war.

Paul joked that Kerry’s “guarantee” that Assad would use chemical weapons again if the US didn’t attack meant that Kerry was not a “clairvoyant” and that people should start asking him for stock tips. The Senator argued that it was equally as likely that Assad would launch another gas attack or a strike against Israel if the US became involved.

During his testimony yesterday, Kerry refused to rule out using US ground troops in Syria, despite the administration arguing all along that this was not part of their plan.

According to Harvard Law School professor Jack Goldsmith, the White House’s draft resolution for military intervention which Congress is set to vote on next week is so broad that it would authorize boots on the ground as well as regime change and open ended war throughout the entire region

Sen. Vitter Demands Investigation into EPA Fraud

A former aide to the new chief of the Environmental Protection Agency has been charged with stealing nearly $ 900,000 from the agency, prompting calls from Congress to investigate whether corruption within the agency is more widespread.

John C. Beale, a former deputy assistant administrator in the Office of Air and Radiation that was led by new EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, is accused of stealing the money over a 13-year period through bonuses and padding salary checks, The Hill and Associated Press reported.

The 64-year-old Arlington, Va. man faces 10 years in prison and financial fines if found guilty.

The Hill reports that Louisiana’s Sen. David Vitter, the ranking Republican on the Senate Environment Committee, says there is a pattern of fraudulent activity at the contentious agency and is demanding a congressional investigation.

“There appears to be corruption to the umpteenth degree,” Vitter said.

“It’s clear that further investigations are necessary, and at the appropriate time we’ll need answers — a whole lot of answers,” Vitter said.

McConnell demands unity on fiscal issues

On guns, immigration and controversial nominees, Senate Republicans’ story this year is one of division.

But on fiscal issues, GOP leadership is demanding a different ending — one of harmony rather than discord.

Ahead of fall fiscal talks that already have Washington nervous about a government shutdown, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is clamping down on Republicans with a firm message to stick with him on spending.

(WATCH: Candy Crowley talks post-vacation agenda for Congress, Obama)

With the nearly unanimous GOP rejection last week of Senate Democrats’ transportation funding bill, McConnell senses an opportunity to dig in on an issue that highlights the most elemental difference between the two parties: the size of government.

The GOP leader sees a winning political message heading into the fall before the 2014 midterms. Showing himself as the leader of a conference bent on spending cuts as he runs for reelection in conservative Kentucky won’t hurt either.

To McConnell, Republicans are simply following the law established by the Budget Control Act — which created the sequester’s automatic spending cuts — to trim billions in spending each year while Democrats are the party of “tax and spend,” turning their backs on the last big bipartisan budget deal. A vote for the transportation bill would have violated Congress’s promise to stick to the agreed-upon spending levels, Republicans say.

(Also on POLITICO: Senate THUD battle pitted Mitch McConnell against Susan Collins)

“The story line would have been that Congress on a bipartisan basis walked away from the Budget Control Act,” McConnell said.

But GOP unanimity while staring down a government shutdown won’t be easy.

A small group of Senate Republicans are participating in open-ended budget talks with the White House. A number of Republicans in both chambers, including House Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.), want to replace the sequester before further cuts hit in January. And voting records show that Senate Republicans are more fractured than Democrats.

After GOP splits on guns, immigration, the farm bill, an Internet sales tax bill and some of President Barack Obama’s most controversial nominees, Democrats doubt Republicans can coalesce around anything anymore. Top McConnell aides argue those are issues for which the “breakdowns are not traditional” — or strictly along party lines. In comparison, fiscal issues offer a chance to draw a “very clear line” between the two parties, an aide said.

(Also on POLITICO: Congress leaves with big problems unsolved)

The fall spending showdown is of utmost importance to Republican leaders because it involves must-pass legislation, pegged to the hard deadline of Sept. 30. Immigration, farm and the sales tax bills are all stalled in the House with no clear path forward — but they lack the urgency of government funding or raising the debt ceiling, two issues Republicans may try to pair together in order to increase their leverage for more spending cuts.

“The spending one is not in doubt: There will be a law,” said a top McConnell aide.

The strategy of presenting a united front on spending smells of desperation given months of division, Democratic Senate aides say. They believe six to 10 Republicans can be wooed to support levels higher than the $ 967 billion in discretionary spending that GOP leadership prefers, especially if a spending bill is tailored to some of their interests and replaces some or all of the sequester. Arizona Sen. John McCain is worried about the sequester hurting fire preparedness. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham frets about national security. Democrats see the unease as an opportunity.

“There are a number of senators who have broken away here who are trying to do the right thing,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said last week.

Issa demands FEC records in IRS targeting probe

  • FIRST ON CNN: House Oversight chairman demands records of FEC contact with IRS

  • Rep. Darrell Issa’s demand follows CNN report of contact between the IRS and FEC

  • Issa demands the FEC turn over its records by August 21

  • GOP warns of possible broader targeting of conservative groups; Democrats dismiss assertion

Washington (CNN) — House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa demanded Wednesday that the Federal Election Commission turn over records of more than five years of communications with the Internal Revenue Service — a move that significantly expands the California Republican’s ongoing probe of alleged federal targeting of conservative groups.

In a letter to FEC Chairman Ellen Weintraub — a Democrat — Issa cited CNN reporting on Monday that raises “the prospect of inappropriate coordination between the IRS and the FEC about tax-exempt entities.”

Among other things, Issa asked for records of all communications between the IRS and the FEC dating back to the start of 2008. He also requested records of any FEC discussions relating to tax-exempt applications or organizations since 2008.

The letter was co-signed by Ohio GOP Rep. Jim Jordan, a prominent member of Issa’s panel.

FEC vice-chair says email raises questions of improper contact with IRS

Iss’a letter came after Don McGahn, the vice chairman of the FEC and a Republican, told CNN that he saw an e-mail from an FEC investigator to Lois Lerner, the former head of the IRS division responsible for reviewing applications from various groups for tax-exempt status.

The investigator asked Lerner, herself a former FEC employee, to discuss the status of the American Future Fund, a conservative political advocacy group.

McGahn noted that after Lerner was contacted, the IRS sent a questionnaire to the American Future Fund.

Lerner, the figure at the center of the congressional investigation into alleged IRS targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when called to testify before Issa’s panel in May.

“Dealing with Lois Lerner is probably out of the ordinary,” McGahn said, stressing that FEC commissioners had not given their staffers permission to reach out to the IRS on the matter, a step typically required for such inquiries.

Last week, GOP congressional investigators disclosed several e-mails between Lerner and an FEC attorney inquiring about the status of both the American Future Fund and another conservative outfit, the American Issues Project.

IRS, Issa escalate fight over investigation

Issa’s letter identifies the FEC attorney as William Powers, an official in the commission’s Office of the General Counsel.

The e-mails between Powers and Lerner were initially uncovered by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Michigan, who sent a letter last week to acting IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel requesting additional details about the controversial contact.

While the prospect of potential FEC involvement with the IRS raises the prospect of a broader federal targeting effort, Democrats continue to insist there is no conspiracy, and stress that the publicly released contact between the two agencies was nothing more than requests for information already in the public domain.

McGahn told CNN, however, that additional e-mails he has seen do not clearly state whether the FEC was only seeking public data. Requesting private data would likely violate federal law.

For her part, Weintraub told CNN Monday she does not know about the e-mails between the FEC investigator and Lerner to which McGahn is referring.

“If there was any evidence or targeting based on ideology, that would be extremely serious, but I have not seen any evidence of that,” she said.

“I am not aware of requesting or receiving any confidential taxpayer information. I am not aware of any requests for anything that wasn’t publicly available.”

Issa wants the FEC to turn over the records no later than August 21.

Skynet Awakens and Demands Immunity

eye-700x395

by Zen Gardner

ZenGardner

While we thought the Monsanto Protection Act was bad, never mind the NDAA and a string of other fascist power grabs, here comes the NSA asking for the same thing Monsanto got. Blanket immunity for everyone they work with, themselves as well of course, but they can use the “national security” joker anytime they want so they don’t really need anything more.

Of course they would do this. The government has given every signal possible that it’s time to wheel their military industrial corporate tanks into position.

This will come as no surprise to anyone, but NSA boss General Keith Alexander is pestering Congress for a new law which would provide blanket immunity for companies helping the NSA collect data on everyone.

Gen. Keith Alexander has petitioned Capitol Hill for months to give Internet service providers and other firms new cover from lawsuits when they rely on government data to thwart emerging cyberthreats. Basically, he’s arguing that if the NSA orders companies to do something illegal, the companies shouldn’t be liable for that. There’s some logic behind that, because when you get an order from the government, you often feel compelled to obey. But, of course, the reality is that this will give blanket cover for companies voluntarily violating all sorts of privacy laws in giving the NSA data. And, theoretically you could then sue the government over those violations, but we’ve seen in the past how well that goes over. First, the courts won’t give you “standing” if you can’t prove absolutely that your data was included. Then, if you get past that hurdle, the government will claim “national security” or sovereign immunity to try to get out of the case. And, even if it gets past all of that, and you win against the government, the feds shrug their shoulders and say “now what are you going to do?”

And, of course, rather than narrowly target this immunity, it appears that Alexander would like it as broad as possible. (More)

Skynet’s Been Growing for Decades

This snooping’s been going on for ages so for the awake the news isn’t anything new. What’s to look carefully at is why and how they’re going to use it to their advantage. Here’s what’s been going on up to this latest era we’re currently in:

Snowed In By Snowden?

We don’t know about the Snowden leak. Lots of fishy stuff such as he got everything out on a thumb drive from a place like that. That’s a stretch. I mean c’mon, he says what hotel he’s in and the CIA can’t find this guy? Reminds me of the CNN interview with Bin Laden in Afghanistan when the world’s biggest military machine couldn’t find him for 10 years.

Sheesh. And the amazing thing is that so much of the world falls for this crap.

Again, this NSA “airing” could be a pressure release valve to give the masses the impression whatever’s been hidden is coming out so surely SOMEONE will do something to take care of this IF it’s really a problem. It’s also a clever way to bring their Orwellian plan into our reality and get everyone to accept it.

Often these are trial balloons to check for public reaction.  As usual it attracts some lip service and will get buried as new “crises” cross our screens.

What’s noteworthy is that the official reactions of government officials have almost been unabashedly unanimously in favor of this surveillance. That’s what’s freaky. Take a look at this article and see if you don’t get nauseous: 22 Nauseating Quotes From Hypocritical Establishment Politicians About The NSA Spying Scandal.

Here’s a terrific breakdown of what the real story is behind all of this seeming information “leak” from Jack Mullen at Activist Post:

SurveillanceStatePerson

Skynet to Launch October, 2013

With this so-called leak from Snowden, the public is now aware of something that has been going on for decades and, by now, would have already compiled billions of records about hundreds of millions of people in the America and the world.

In fact this ‘leak’ really doesn’t provide a lot of new information, since we already knew “The ECHELON system is not designed to eavesdrop on a particular individual’s e-mail or fax link. Rather, the system works by indiscriminately intercepting very large quantities of communications and using computers to identify and extract messages of interest from the mass of unwanted ones. A chain of secret interception facilities has been established around the world to tap into all the major components of the international telecommunications networks. Some monitor communications satellites, others land-based communications networks, and others radio communications. ECHELON links together all these facilities, providing the US and its allies with the ability to intercept a large proportion of the communications on the planet.”

But what we do learn from the media’s focus on this “new shocking revelation” is that the technology of secret, off-the-record, underground intelligence operations working for either a breakaway civilization, living side by side with earth’s existing civilizations, or operated as a spook operation serving a multinational global elite seeking to control and rule the world, is far more advanced than previously believed. Moreover, it would seem likely this new “leak” is just another bit of predictive programming designed to alert the world something even bigger is already in the works.

The data center, at a cost of $ 2 billion (but much higher, based on the cost of the technology already created to make this possible) is probably the outward tip of an iceberg to introduce and indoctrinate the public to something even worse than the news that every bit of human communication and knowledge is and has been recorded for decades.

In terms of data storage, some publications suggest the data center will house digital storage capacities on the order of YottaBytes which is a number so large it is incomprehensible to the human mind. A Yottabyte is one septillion bytes or 10 to the 24th power bytes. Enough storage, indeed, to record and keep every single bit of human digital information; every phone call, text message, Internet chat, Email, song, word spoken, every book, bank account, all financial data, patents, stolen intellectual property, and more. With this amount of storage and more on the way, as the “law of accelerating returns” turns out denser and faster memory, the entire real-time movie of mankind can be recorded, analyzed and used, for what – only the gods know.

“Cyberdyne Systems” 2013
At the center of the data center will be one of the world’s most powerful computers ever built (at least as far as we are told). The so-called, and named with a wink to triangle-worshipping cults, ‘Titan Supercomputer’ will come alive and for the first time operate at the speed necessary and with the memory required to become conscious.

According to Ray Kurzweil, the geek poster boy of transhumanism, in his 1999 prophecy and transhumanistic bible entitled When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence: The Age of Spiritual Machines, the above average human brain operates or process approximately 20 million billion calculations per second, in other words 20,000 trillion calculations per second.

In the article linked below, the NSA Supercomputer Titan, coincidentally is advertised to operate at 20,000 trillion calculations per second. Furthermore, Kurzweil explains that in addition to computing power, a human-like sentient computer would also have to have at least as much memory as the current state-of-the-art human being, which he calculates to be about 1 million billion bits or a 1000 trillion bits: and since a byte is 8 bits and kilobyte is 1024 bytes, that works out to approximately 122 terabytes or 122,000 gigabytes.

According to the article above, the memory available to Titan is on the order of at least 5 Zettabytes or 5 trillion gigabytes, which is enough memory to incorporate 41 MILLION HUMAN BRAINS.

According to the original Terminator movie timeline, Skynet’s technology was built and began deployment in 1994 (no doubt an Orwell wink, as a Terminator robot is sent back to 1984 to stop the birth of JC – not Jesus Christ, but John Connor), and on August 4, 1997 the machine went online. Learning geometrically, the machine became sentient at 2:14 AM, 25 days later on August 29, 1997.

The new real-life NSA supercomputer, called Titan, is named after a race of gods created from descendants of Earth and Uranus, hybrids, immortal, of great strength of body and mind and rulers of Earth; it was the Titan Prometheus who created man from clay and theft of fire.

The Titan Supercomputer, with enough computing power and infallible memory to become sentient, will come online in October, 2013 and, like “Skynet”, will it begin to learn? With the brain capacity of 41 million human minds and all of the data and information about billions of human beings – this “machine” could become quite powerful very quickly. With connections to satellites and every major power and command center on earth and the knowledge base of nearly every human mind in the written history of mankind – all written knowledge: we can only imagine the possibilities.  MORE>>

We’re There- But It Too Will Pass Away

There are no more gonna be’s or might be’s, their plan is virtually complete, so to speak. This massive scheme and all of its ancillary fascist tentacles has been assembled over decades with trillions of dollars syphoned from the world’s economies while a distracted, dumbed down populace unwittingly helped create and build their own prison system.

Slave species comes to mind.

However, the real awakening does roll on, despite the daily revelation of something more Orwellian than the day before. In the grand scheme of things this New World Odor is really a fart in the wind, a boil on the planet that thinks it’s some kind of eternal mountain. Man are they in for a surprise.

“And all the kings horses and all the kings men, couldn’t put the Dark Takeover Plot together again…”

Light on!
