Alex Jones Re issues Challenge to Box Piers Morgan 032114piersboxing

One would think embattled CNN host Piers Morgan would have had enough fighting.

For months prior to the announcement of his pseudo-departure, he’d fought an uphill battle campaigning for further restrictions to the Second Amendment, duking it out with some of the staunchest gun advocates in the country.

And in his most popular show to date, he went toe-to-toe with the “T-rex of Political Talk” himself, Alex Jones, suffering a highly publicized defeat that served to invigorate and alert gun owners and defenders of freedom alike.

Morgan is set to leave his prime time post at the propaganda dissemination network, but far from throwing in the towel, he is now promoting and plans to participate in a boxing match with British colleague and BBC Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, a match similar to the one proposed by Jones during his appearance on Piers Morgan Live.

In his January 2013 unscripted CNN interview, spurred by Infowars’ facetious, but apropos petition to deport the British subject due to his ceaseless attacks on the Bill of Rights, Jones revealed the teleprompter reader as a “hatchet man of the New World Order,” and, as some may recall, in the process also threw down the gauntlet challenging Morgan to a boxing match.

“You’re a hatchet man of the new world order. You’re a hatchet man. And I want to say this right here. You think you’re a tough guy? Well have me back with a boxing ring in here, and I’ll wear red, white, and blue, and you can wear your Jolly Roger,” Jones proposed.

Not surprisingly, a flustered Morgan scoffed at the proposal, but in a subsequent episode entertained the notion with guests, who went as far as to suggest Piers accept Jones’ challenge, then shoot the prominent radio host.

“I don’t care what the justification is that you’re allowed in this country to own a semi-automatic weapon – much less a handgun. But what do you need a semi-automatic weapon for? The only reason I think you’d need it is, Piers, challenge Alex Jones to a boxing match, show up with a semi-automatic that you got legally and pop him,” Daily Beast sports columnist Buzz Bissinger suggested in the live, televised segment, to which Huffington Post contributor Abby Huntsman chimed in, “I’d love to see that… [laughter] in uniform.”

Acknowledging Morgan’s latest ploy as a publicity stunt, Jones is reiterating his previous challenge to step into the ring with the vanquished Constitutional foe.

“You know Morgan, that I will literally beat the hell out of you,” Jones declared on his Friday, March 21 broadcast, adding that a bare-knuckle or glove match in Las Vegas would be highly publicized and would likely bring in millions of dollars.

“You need to accept the challenge, coward,” Jones implored, suggesting that the Daily Beast columnist also join them in the ring. “I will literally beat the hell out of you and Buzz Bissinger.”

More as this develops…

LONDON (Reuters) – U.S. investment banks JPMorgan Chase & Co and Citi saw their share of investment banking revenue increase more than any of their peers in the first nine months of the year, new research showed on Thursday.

Among the 13 investment banks tracked by research firm Tricumen, JP Morgan and Citi each saw their share of operating revenue rise 0.7 percentage points over the period.

Tricumen partner Darko Kapor said JPMorgan’s performance stemmed from continued strength in equity and debt capital markets, which are among its biggest businesses, as well as a strong third quarter in interest rates, foreign exchange, credit and equity derivatives trading, where it outpaced most peers.

Year-to-date, JPMorgan earned the most from capital markets, making operating revenue of $ 19.5 billion, ahead of Goldman Sachs and Citi, which made $ 17.9 billion and $ 15 billion respectively, a Tricumen ranking showed.

The report will be welcome news to JPMorgan, which last month posted its first quarterly loss under Chief Executive Jamie Dimon, and faces over a dozen legal probes globally.

Tricumen said Citi’s gains stemmed from the resilience of its fixed income, currency and commodities (FICC) trading revenues, an area where many of its competitors saw revenues battered in the third quarter.

Britain-based Tricumen tracks data from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland, Societe Generale and UBS.

French bank Societe Generale also saw its share of revenue increase by 0.7 percentage points, though it remains a much smaller player than its peers.

Kapor said SocGen has been increasing its revenue share throughout the year through its activities in debt capital markets, where it seems to have found a way to increase or at least maintain margin.

Goldman Sachs was among the biggest losers, seeing its share of revenue drop by 0.7 percentage points after a tough third quarter, according to Tricumen.

Revenue from FICC trading for clients, one of Goldman’s biggest businesses, tumbled 47 percent in the quarter, Goldman reported in October.

Switzerland’s UBS, however, was the worst performer. Its share of revenue slipped 1.1 percentage points due its pull back from FICC.

Separately on Thursday, research by analytics firm Coalition forecast revenue at the top 10 global investment banks to decline by 5 percent to $ 151.7 billion in 2013 due to weak returns from FICC activities.

FICC revenues are expected to fall 20 percent year-on-year to $ 73.6 billion after a decline in institutional client activity, the absence of another European Central Bank long-term refinancing operation (LTRO) and bankers holding off trading in anticipation of interest rates rises, Coalition said.

Equities, however, are forecast to deliver their best return since 2010, with revenues up 22 percent year-on-year at $ 40.9 billion, while investment banking will see revenues rise 10 percent to $ 37.2 billion, Coalition’s report showed.

Coalition includes data from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and UBS.

9 More Banks Are Getting Probed By The DoJ On Matters That Led To JP Morgan Paying $13 Billion

Source: Business Insider

At least nine banks face probes by the U.S. Department of Justice into their sales of mortgage-backed securities as part of an effort by the task force that reached the $ 13 billion agreement with JPMorgan Chase & Co <JPM.N>, the Financial Times reported.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the newspaper said the banks include Bank of America Corp <BAC.N>, Citigroup Inc <C.N>, Credit Suisse Group <CSGN.VX>, Deutsche Bank <DBKGn.DE>, Goldman Sachs Group Inc <GS.N>, Morgan Stanley <MS.N>, Royal Bank of Scotland <RBS.L>, UBS <UBSN.VX>, and Wells Fargo & Co <WFC.N>.

Document requests and discussions between the banks and government have picked up recently after Eric Holder, the U.S. attorney-general, indicated publicly that more mortgage-backed security lawsuits were coming by the end of the year, the FT said.

Holder Shakes Down JP Morgan

On the heels of IRS targeting of Tea Party groups, we have another example of the “Chicago Way” in action. The New York Post reported on Sunday:

JPMorgan Chase has tentatively agreed to pay the Department of Justice a record $ 13 billion settlement to resolve several civil probes relating to residential mortgage-backed securities – a costly deal that still doesn’t protect the bank against additional criminal prosecutions.

The settlement, revealed Saturday, would be the largest lump payout the US government has ever asked of an individual company.

“This is a basic and fundamental attack on capitalism,” declared Dick Bove, an influential bank analyst at Rafferty Capital.

“It is possible that the government is taking away the property of the JPMorgan shareholders without the shareholders having committed any crime or having any say in the expropriation of these funds.”

The shakedown was completed personally by Attorney General Eric Holder. According to newsmax.com:

The settlement deal was sealed this past Friday night in a telephone call between Attorney General Eric Holder and JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon.

Some financial analysts argue that the shakedown was unjustified. The supposed crimes by JP Morgan resulted from portfolios of failed banks that JP Morgan had taken over at administration request. JP Morgan and Wells Fargo were the two well-managed major banks that didn’t need government help during the fall 2008 financial meltdown.

The attack on JP Morgan could be payback for things that Dimon, a former Obama favorite, said during the 2012 election season. According to newsmax.com:

Last year Dimon told Fortune magazine that “we have the royal straight flush,” suggesting that “the debt-ceiling crisis, the failure to do Simpson-Bowles, [and] what I consider the constant attack on business” by the Obama administration had stymied the recovery.

If you want to understand where this behavior comes from, read this May 17 commentary from the Chicago Tribune by John Kass (IRS scandal a reminder of how I learned about The Chicago Way). Kass reminisces about family discussions within his large Greek-American family growing up in Chicago. Here is a selection from this engaging commentary about why his family members enjoyed talking about politics but were afraid to engage in political activities:

“Are you in your good senses?” said my father. “We have lives here. We have businesses. If we get involved in politics, they will ruin us.”…

The health inspectors would come, and the revenue department, the building inspectors, the fire inspectors, on and on. The city code books aren’t thick because politicians like to write new laws and regulations. The codes are thick because when government swings them at a citizen, they hurt.

And who swings the codes and regulations at those who’d open their mouths? A government worker. That government worker owes his or her job to the political boss. And that boss has a boss….

My father had a similar experience involving freedom of the press in Chicago. In the 1930s, he and his brother published a free neighborhood newspaper. It was going well, but then, all of a sudden, its advertising dried up — turned out that the local alderman had told the businessmen that they shouldn’t advertise in his paper. Next the newsboys distributing the paper destroyed the copies. That was the end of a potential voice against the machine.

Under the Obama administration, the Federal government is taking the Chicago Way nationwide. It was tolerated when it was just imposed upon a single American city. Now it threatens America’s political and economic freedom.

The author teaches economics online. He and his father and son maintain a blog at www.idealtaxes.com and co-authored the 2008 book, Trading Away Our Future.

Piers Morgan, aspiring movie star

Watch out, Hollywood: Piers Morgan’s biggest remaining ambition in life is to make it in the movie business.

At a National Press Club event on Friday, CNN’s Morgan immediately responded to the question of what he still most wanted to accomplish with one word: “Movies.”

“James Bond,” the “Piers Morgan Tonight” host added to laughs from the crowd. “[Daniel] Craig can’t go on forever.”

Morgan, who noted he made cameos in several movies such as “Flight” and “The Campaign” last year, said he feels his film career is “going well” at the moment. The CNN anchor also pointed out that he appeared twice in the movie “Flight,” which starred Denzel Washington and scored the actor an Oscar nomination for his lead role. And “so it was all going great” in his Hollywood career, Morgan said — except for the fact that fellow CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer scored a coveted role in the most recent Bond flick.

“But what really pissed me off was Wolf Blitzer got the cameo in ‘Skyfall,’ the Bond movie,” Morgan said at the event promoting his new book “Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God, and George Clooney.” “That really ate away at me.”

And Blitzer, Morgan said, doesn’t let him hear the end of it.

“Every time I see Wolf, and I’m sure I’ll bump into him at the bureau later, he always mentions it,” Morgan said. “He always says, How’s the movie career going?’ ‘Not bad.’ And he says, ‘Remember I was in ‘Skyfall.’ It grossed a billion dollars.’”

Piers Morgan vs. Gun Rights Author Emily Miller

MORGAN: So my argument is, where there are more guns, there’s actually more likelihood of a gun being used, and call me old fashion in that theory, but, there is this heartbreaking case. A couple of days ago, an 18-year-old, who for a prank, in a family home with a family friend who’ve been staying there, hid in the closet and jumped out to surprise him. He happened to be carrying a gun, and because he was startled, he killed her with the gun. Well, that simply wouldn’t happen in countries where you’re not just overrun with everybody assuming (ph) there’s to carry in a gun.

MILLER: But what about the machete. The guy in England who killed a guy with a machete. I mean, people are vulnerable. You know, accidental death is a different issue. Don’t get that too much in my book, it’s about 700 people a year. It’s not that frequent of a crime, and obviously catches people attention because you think a guy who will — I will never do that. But their picture is this, gun — there has never been proven whether it’s the government CDC study, Harvard study, that any gun — all these gun control laws that I hear you advocate all the time. They don’t prevent violence, they decline violence. And that’s what we all want to do is decrease violence, make our children safe or make ourselves safe, or make our cities safer.

MORGAN: But what they do do is they dramatically reduce gun crime.

MILLER: No, they do not.

MORGAN: Yes, they do.

MILLER: Gun crime hasn’t gone down 40 percent in the past 20 years while gone ownership had skyrocketed. There’s over 300 million guns. As gun ownership is going like this, gun crime has gone like this. Whereas in England, gun crime after the ban went like this and then started going down. There is no parallel between gun — there is no parallel during gun ownership and gun crime.

MORGAN: Well actually, gun crime in Britain. As he write this out after the Dublin (ph) massacre when they board a new gun control laws, it went out the next five years since as they all came into effect. And then made them twice as hard and so they’re going to start jailing people for five years for possession of a handgun. And every single year since then, since 2003, it has gone down significantly.

MILLER: As it has in the United States, while gun ownership is through the roof here.

MORGAN: What about Iowa? Iowa was to give permit, gun permits to legally blind people. And indeed has been doing that including a number of people who are not allowed to drive because they’re also blind.

MILLER: With the state issues. So there’s no federal ban on that. And I know a lot of these disability groups want to say, “You can’t take away their secondary (ph) rights because they’re blind.” So it’s a complicated issue. It’s really — I mean there’s no …

MORGAN: Emily they’re blind.

MILLER: I don’t want a …

MORGAN: These people are blind. I interviewed Stevie Wonder. He said to me, “Can you imagine, I’m allowed to go and buy guns. Can you imagine me with a gun?” I think it’s actually ridiculous, Emily.

MILLER: But, here’s the thing …

MORGAN: There is he with your lovely gun you want to get your gun. A farmer (ph) doesn’t want to take your gun away. You want to stop people killing each other, right?

MILLER: He doesn’t care about the blind people.

MOGRAN: Now, we’ve got people in Iowa who are blind applying for weapons, and they’re allowed to have them because it’s their right. Not it’s not.

MILLER: Can I talk?

MORGAN: Yes.

MILLER: Once we start having cases of blind people going around shooting people, we can come back and have that debate.

MORGAN: It’s something that’s going to happen?

MILLER: It hasn’t happened yet.

MORGAN: Do you think blind people are going to accidentally shoot people?

MILLER: It’s been fully legal in most states right now and they’re not doing it because gun owners are responsible, which they train responsibly, which they store responsibly.

MORGAN: So let me guess — the view is right. You actually think that we can have responsible blind gun owners?

MILLER: I’m going to tell you what.

MORGAN: Yes, Emily.

MILLER: I won’t — yes.

MORGAN: Unbelievable, Emily.

MILLER: Let me tell you why. You can rack a shotgun, never shoot it, scare the hell out of the criminal. Am I allowed to say hell? I don’t know.

MORGAN: It’s good. You just said hell (inaudible).

MILLER: Well, I may — they teach me back and so (ph). But anyway, I went with two blind people down to the DC police to see if what happens if they did because you have to be legally blind, you’ve take a vision test in DC because it took me four months to get a legal gun. You would love DC, 17 steps and four guns …

MORGAN: I do find — I actually do love DC I love America. My hat is off (ph) with America or Americans, or in fact, any of your magnificent states, my problem is with the gun law that you’re saying is perfectly OK for legally blind people to be marching around with guns. It is ridiculous?

MILLER: Well, the gun lobby (ph) is not — the gun always now doing that is the disability groups who actually the ones advocating for this. And you know, because they say, why should they not be allowed to have guns. That’s not mine, right?

Ron Paul: ‘When you have a dictatorship… truth becomes treasonous’

“Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”

Adan Salazar

Former Congressman Ron Paul offered up a heaping portion of Constitutional liberty on CNN’s Piers Morgan Live yesterday when he addressed the recent NSA spy grid scandal, which has linked several high tech giants, including Facebook, Microsoft and Skype, to a secret program in which the government agency was allowed access to those companies’ servers.

Asked if he considered NSA contractor turned whistleblower Edward Snowden a hero, Paul answered, “Well… he’s done a great service because he’s telling the truth and this is what we are starved for. The American people are starved for the truth.”

Snowden’s actions, first reported by the UK’s Guardian newspaper and next the Washington Post, have come under fierce scrutiny by members on both sides of the political divide, leading several politicians to label him a “traitor” and his leak of government secrets “treasonous.”

According to Paul, these are the tell-tale signs of a dictatorial government: “And when you have a dictatorship or an authoritarian government, truth becomes treasonous. And this is what they do if you are a whistleblower, or if you are trying to tell the American people that our country is destroying our rule of law and destroying our Constitution, they turn it around and say, ‘You’re committing treason…’”

The former Texas rep and three-time presidential candidate also spoke of the NSA’s scandal in terms of violating the Fourth Amendment, saying, “So essentially there is no Fourth Amendment anymore, and for somebody to tell the American people the truth is a heroic effort, and [Snowden] knows that it’s very risky. He knows he’s committing civil disobedience and he knows that he could get punished, but he believes… that what our government is doing to us is so serious that somebody has to speak out.”

Eliciting snickers from Morgan, Paul also joked that President Obama should actually thank Snowden for forcing him to fulfill a campaign promise, stating “Matter of fact, I think the president ought to send him a thank you letter, because the president ran on transparency and we’re getting a lot of transparency now. So finally we’re getting the president to fulfill his promise about transparency, so that’s pretty exciting for me.”

Meanwhile, Morgan’s in-studio guest, Robert James Woolsey, Jr., a former CIA boss, found it difficult to answer whether what the NSA is doing violates the Fourth Amendment.

R. James Woolsey, Jr.

Morgan: I just don’t see how you can say what is going on here in complete secrecy from 99 percent of the people it is being done to lives up to the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It is palpably a breach isn’t it?

Woolsey: Well, it depends on whether or not you want to preserve the country’s ability to operate in a world of terrorism in which a lot of terrorists are very technically sophisticated. If you want to defend the country you’re going to have to defend it.

Morgan: Right, I understand that…but that wasn’t the question.

Woolsey: It is the question. It is the question. That balance between security and liberty is the question.

Congressman Paul later retorted, “What he’s doing is repealing the Magna Carta. You can’t just do these kind of things. And this one is not only repealing the principles of liberty, but it’s destroying the Constitution.”

Continuing, Paul questioned what should be done with Constitutional traitors. “So my question should be to all of you who defend this nonsense is, ‘What should the penalty be for the people who destroy the constitution?’ They’re always worried about how they’re going to destroy the American citizens who tell the truth to let us know what’s going on, but we ask the question, ‘What is the penalty for the people who deliberately destroy the Constitution and rationalize and say, “Well, we have to do it for security”?’ Well, you know what Franklin said about that,” recalling Founding Father Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote, paraphrased, “Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”

Woolsey is an establishment fixture often trotted out to disseminate the fabled threat of terrorism, and is the same person who warned in Feb. 2012 that the Statue of Liberty would be a target for Iranian terrorists hellbent on retaliating against the U.S. for shutting down their nuclear program.

When confronted by We Are Change’s Luke Rudkowski in March 2011, Woolsey denied former CIA director William Colby’s charge that the CIA owns “everyone of any significance in the major media.” He is also blamed for a gag order placed on 9/11 first responders forbidding them to speak about inside knowledge of the events of that day.
