ABC Frets Over ObamaCare "Glitch Girl," the "Most Despised Face on the Planet"

Scott Whitlock

ABC’s Good Morning America on Wednesday spent over four minutes worrying about “glitch girl,” the woman who was featured on the ObamaCare webpage for weeks during the site’s disastrous rollout. Yet, the same program spent less time on the fact that the website likely will not be fixed by the November 30 deadline. Additionally, Josh Elliott dispatched in six seconds the news that a majority of Americans now find Barack Obama untrustworthy.

Reporter Amy Robach focused on Adrianna (she did not want her last name used), the smiling woman who greeted frustrated Americans on HealthCare.gov. Robach hyperbolically announced, “It’s the face that launched a frenzied hunt.” Continuing the over-the-top language, Robach told the young woman, “You’ve been dubbed glitch girl, the most despised face on the planet.” [See video below. MP3 audio here.] The most despised face on the planet?

Robach also used a favorite word of journalists, describing the page that barely functions as the “glitch-plagued ObamaCare website.” Another GMA segment referred to the “health care software glitches.”

She did explain the interesting detail that Adrianna: “is from Colombia and not a U.S. citizen, though, she is eligible to apply for health care under her permanent residency status.”

The journalist closed her segment by repeating White House talking points: “And when we asked the administration for a response to the website’s new look, they say they always wanted to make changes to the home page, calling it a dynamic website.”

A dynamic website?

A new Quinnipiac poll found a majority of Americans believe Obama is untrustworthy. The survey found the President’s approval rating at an all-time low, 41 percent. This garnered six seconds of coverage in the 8am hour.

Other details got more attention. Co-host George Stephanopoulos opened the show by announcing, “New developments in the ObamaCare debacle. Reports this morning, the website will not be fixed fully by the November deadline.” The host repeated this point at the end of a Jon Karl segment, but didn’t go into great detail.

The Karl story ran one minute and 20 seconds. The reporter noted Bill Clinton calling on Obama to keep his promise regarding people keeping health care they like. But the story didn’t match the time of the gossipy segment on “glitch girl.”

A transcript of the November 13 segment, which aired at 7:06am ET, follows:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

ROBIN ROBERTS: And now, George, another side of the ObamaCare rollout and the woman who became the face of the website fiasco, plastered on the home page of HealthCare.Gov. The source of anger for so many. And ABC’s Amy Robach spoke to her in an ABC News exclusive. Great to see you, Robin.

AMY ROBACH: Thank you so much. Good morning, Robin. And her picture may be gone now from the website. But the woman who has a name, Adriana, says she’s not completely over the sting of what she calls bullying. It’s the face that launched a frenzied hunt.

JON STEWART: That smiling lady.

CANDY CROWLEY: Have you seen the mystery girl?

ROBACH: As frustrations with the glitch-plagued ObamaCare website mounted, people turned their attention to the mystery woman on the home page. And until now, her identity remained a secret. Why do you want to speak out now?

ADRIANNA: Because I mean, I deserve a chance to tell people who I am and not just let everyone else say whatever they want.

ROBACH: So, who is the woman who was the face of the ObamaCare website?

ADRIANNA: I’m a mother and I’m a wife and I’m not a professional model.

ROBACH: Adrianna, who asked that we not use her last name, is from Colombia and not a U.S. citizen, though, she is eligible to apply for health care under her permanent residency status. And while she says the picture was supposed to be a typical stock photo, she never anticipated it would become a laughing stock.

ADRIANNA: We signed the release that says it was possibly going to be used for material for promoting the health care. We just didn’t know that it was going to have a negative impact.

ROBACH: You’ve been dubbed glitch girl, the most despised face on the planet. Did you ever anticipate this type of publicity? Scrutiny?

ADRIANNA: No.

ROBACH: Adding insult to injury, she wasn’t paid for the photo. Have you ever experienced anything like this before in your life?

ADRIANNA: Well, this is actually a reason I wanted to be here, because as a kid, I never went through that. And now, I am. You know? You know, it’s some sort of bullying.

ROBACH: It is bullying.

ADRIANNA: But at the same time, you know, I thought I have to do this. For my child. I’m here to stand up for myself and defend myself.

ROBACH: Good for her. Her photo was taken down from the website two weeks ago. And Adriana says she is now able to find some humor in the face of all of that negativity. And when we asked the administration for a response to the website’s new look, they say they always wanted to make changes to the home page, calling it a dynamic website. But she certainly took the fall, unfairly so.

ROBERTS: Yeah. That’s right.

Humans Came From Another Planet, New Book Claims

202Did we all originate from Mars or somewhere else? Dr Ellis Silver argues that we may have.

via Alien Disclosure Group (ADG)

This year, other scientists have argued that life originated on Mars, due to a mineral found in Martian meteorites, thought to be crucial to the genesis of life. Another experiment showed that amino acids could have arrived in impacts with comets, which suggests life might be widespread in the solar system.

But a new book by American ecologist Dr Ellis Silver argues that humans may well not be from Earth – and may have arrived separately. Silver offers arguments, based on human physiology, that suggest we may not have evolved alongside other life on Earth, but arrived from elsewhere, brought here by aliens as recently as a few tens of thousands of years ago.

Silver, an environmentalist  who is currently working with the effort to clean plastic debris from the Pacific, says his book aims to provoke debate, and is based on scientific work on the difference between humans and other animals.

“The Earth approximately meets our needs as a species, but perhaps not as strongly as whoever brought us here initially thought,” Silver said in an interview with Yahoo news.

“Lizards can sunbathe for as long as they like, and many of them do. We can just about get away with it for a week or two. But day after day in the sun? Forget it.”

“You might as well just lie down on the freeway and wait for a bus to hit you, we are dazzled by the sun, which is also odd, says Silver, most animals are not.”

Silver claims that some chronic illnesses that plague the human race – such as bad backs – could be a sign we evolved on a world with lower gravity. Silver points to other unique human traits, such as the fact that babies’ heads are so large that women have trouble giving birth, in earlier eras, this was often fatal for mother, child or both.

“No other truly native species on this planet has this problem,” he says. Silver also points out to the “extra” 223 genes in human beings, which are not found in any other species, and to the lack of a fossil “missing link”.

Silver chose not to publish in a scientific imprint, wanting to inspire open debate.

3 Ways Monsanto Threatens Our Planet

monsanto-endBy:  Anthony Gucciardi,
Natural Society.

Through rampant and unchecked genetic manipulation, multinational biotechnology juggernauts like Monsanto continue to churn out genetically modified creations that threaten the entire planet in a way that we have never before witnessed throughout history. Examining the role of genetic manipulation, even going beyond the affects on human health, it’s easy to see how the very genetic integrity of the environment can be compromised in the blink of an eye — and that’s even more concerning than the potential human health effects.

Here are 5 ways Monsanto continues to threaten life on our planet, and perhaps more importantly, what we can do about it:

1. Global Genetic Contamination

A major issue surrounding Monsanto’s out of control augmentation of the food supply (as well as other biotech giants actually genetically modifying animals) has to do with the genetic contamination of plants on a major scale. And while the notion is already disturbing, the reality is that we’ve already seen incidents of large-scale genetic contamination on behalf of Monsanto. Going back to the escape of genetically modified wheat in traditional crop, for example, is a perfect example of genetic contamination in action.

Even Reuters reported on the spread of the GM wheat beyond Monsanto test fields — a contamination event that incited lawsuits from farmers who wanted nothing to do with Monsanto’s GMOs. An event that follows similar reports on the depth of GM contamination, such as the admission that we documented on NaturalSociety regarding the spread of genetically modified flax among the food supply since the 90s. Once again, we see the unexpected pollution of the food supply on behalf of GM contamination — an issue that’s already costing us (and threatening our health).

“GE contamination is already costing the taxpayer,” said Lucy Sharratt of the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network. “Contamination is inevitable and these costs will keep recurring.”

2. Squelching Knowledge Through GM Labeling

Monsanto’s number one enemy? Knowledge: specifically on the subject of what is actually lurking in your food supply. That’s why Monsanto is doing a great job in shoveling millions into the furnace of anti-labeling propaganda in order to keep you in the dark about what’s inside your favorite food brand. Because after all, Monsanto would likely go bankrupt if everyone knew what they were truly eating. Corporations would be forced to respond to public action, removing the GMOs from the products to regain any form of credibility and sales, and as a result Monsanto would be kicked out of the marketplace.

This is why we see Monsanto shelling out millions to fight GMO labeling and the right for consumers to know what they’re feeding themselves and their families.

3. Monsanto Controls Key Government Positions

It is through the manipulation of key political figures that Monsanto is able to manipulate our food supply, and this reality is actually much more devastating than you may think. Because not only does it mean that Monsanto will rail through their new GMOs with limited testing (the USDA is actually giving Monsanto special ‘speedy approval’ now to ram through their latest GMO abominations as I told you back in February of 2012), but it also means that Monsanto goons, who are willing to profit on food supply monopoly while ignoring all legitimate concerns, have a major pull on international trends.

Just look at the fact that taxpayers are now paying for Monsanto’s promotional marketing tools that are spread overseas in order to generate further business for the company. All through the United States State Department. We are now paying for Monsanto as if it were a government agency.

Taking A Stand

The fact of the matter is that, despite the funding and overall reckless corporate behavior, Monsanto is nothing compared to the power of the consumer at large. As I touched on earlier, even GMO labeling legislation has the ability to take down Monsanto profits dramatically. Even during the campaign we launched earlier this year, the Monsanto Video Revolt, we were able to reduce Monsanto’s stock while spreading the word. What it takes is you joining in the intellectual fight and spreading the word.

Because ultimately, it’s up to us to take back the food supply.

Could There Be A Planet Hidden On The Opposite Side Of Our Sun?

We ask a scientist who has peered around it.

Transit Begins SDO image in extreme ultraviolet. NASA

The sun might seem like a pretty huge galactic blind spot, but we’ve already managed to glimpse behind it, and there’s nothing there in the way of another Earth, says NASA scientist Michael Kaiser, “unless it’s awfully tiny.”

Kaiser is the project scientist for NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) mission, which in 2006 sent two golf-cart-size satellites into orbit around the sun to study the explosions on the solar surface that are a major factor in space weather. A few months after their launch, the two probes were angled such that they could see beyond the sun, but they found no planets lurking behind the big star.

Even if we couldn’t see behind the sun, the gravitational pull of a roughly 100-mile-wide planet hiding there would noticeably affect the orbits of the other planets. And if astronomers had somehow missed that detail, Kaiser says, an unaccounted-for tug of gravity in the solar system would have disrupted the orbit of man-made satellites circling the Earth or interfered with intra-solar-system spacecraft. That hasn’t happened, so unless beings on a hidden planet have invented both an invisibility cloak and a gravity-masking device, the other side of the sun is almost certainly just empty space.
