You know that not all foods are created equal. If you\’re diabetic, there are some foods that you should avoid at all cost, as they are unhealthy and make blood sugar management difficult. Read on to find out what foods you should avoid.
AVOID: Restaurant French Fries: A cringe-worthy sorry excuse for potatoes. French fries have plenty of the stuff you want to avoid, like saturated fat, sodium, and calories. Psst- trans-fat free doesn\’t mean it\’s healthier. Think twice before you order these cholesterol bombs.
Number Two: Hamburgers/ Cheeseburgers: Stuffed with bad fats and calories, these meaty morsels make it even harder to keep blood sugar in a healthy range. So avoid. If you really are craving a burger, make it at home if you can, with lots of vegetables and no cheese.
Number Three: Store-bought Cookies: Buying, opposed to making, cookies can be a very unhealthy choice. Trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, and hydrogenated corn oils aren\’t something you\’d find in Grandma\’s cookies.
4. Cakes and pies: All right, all right, we all know that nothing good can come from purposely sugary sweet cake and pie. Trans fats and saturated fats are just a few of the nutrition offenders in cake mixes. Pound cake? Avoid at all costs.
AVOID: Frozen \”Convenient\” Meals: All right, let\’s face it: Just because something is convenient doesn\’t mean it\’s healthy. Convenient foods like TV dinners and potpies are chock-full of fats and sodium. Make sure, if you do eat a frozen meal, that it\’s low in fat and calories.
Number Six: Soda: While some sodas actually contain some nutrition, it sunk in the pools of high fructose corn syrup. If you really need soda, make it diet. Artificial sweeteners are at least a little better than sugar.
So, as a diabetic, there are lots of foods to ignore that can add to your waistlines and make management of diabetes harder. There are more victuals that you shouldn\’t eat though, so be on the lookout for foods that aren\’t as healthy as they seem.
