MSNBC"s Joy Reid: Religious Freedom Could Be Used To Exclude Women From The Workplace

JOY-ANN REID, MSNBC HOST: However, a business, a corporation you form, is separate from yourself, meaning that if your corporation, for instance, were to violate one of the Ten Commandments, if it were to covet another corporation’s products or if it was to steal another corporation’s patent, it could not suffer the wrath of God, right? So how is it possible for a corporation to somehow violate the religious tenants of its faith if it is not a person and doesn’t have a soul?

LORI WINDHAM, BECKET FUND FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: Well, you know, I think that really gets into a theological family. The Green family believes that they are going to be responsible to God and that they have to answer to God for the things that they do through their family businesses. And so for them, it’s not as simple as saying, ‘Oh, well, the corporation’s doing it, it’s okay. And I think that many Americans would really pull back from the idea that, hey, if I’m just doing this as part of a corporation, if I’m just doing this as part of my job, I don’t have any moral agency here. I think that’s a very difficult argument to make.

REID: Except that Christians who own businesses, let’s say lay people off around Christmastime, right? People do things all the time, that they may personally find morally sort of questionable, but they do them for the business. People lay people off at christmastime.

WINDHAM: I think that what we want to encourage here in the U.S. is people who are willing to have social consciences and who are willing to consider their beliefs in the way they run their business. That’s what the Green family has done. They have raised their minimum wage, every year for the last five years. They’re now nearly double the federal minimum wage, because they said, ‘You know what, that’s the right thing to do.’ I think that’s the kind of behavior we want to encourage rather than discourage.

REID: Let me ask you about another business that thinks that the federal minimum wage is usury and they don’t want to comply with federal minimum wage laws because it violates their religious tenants. Or what if you had another business whose owners believe that women’s place is in the home, so therefore they don’t feel they should be compelled to consider women for employment?

WINDHAM: You know, we’ve heard all of these wild hypotheticals and I think Congress has already answered that with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. What they’ve said is, when there’s a compelling government reason, like protecting the minimum wage or stopping discrimination or protecting life, that the government can win in those cases.

The question isn’t who gets to exercise the rights. The question is, how strong is the government’s interests? Here, the government’s interest is really weak, because they have already exempted plans covering tens of millions of Americans from this same mandate. So how can they exempt so many millions of plans on one hand and yet fine the green family on the other?

Freedom From The Delusional Ego

Freedom From The Delusional Ego

“Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. One man thinks himself the master of others, but remains more of a slave than they are.” -Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Although Rousseau was mainly referring to human society as a whole, even 250 years ago he understood that humanity can upgrade itself and live in a golden age by returning to nature and living a balanced life at peace with ourselves and each other. It’s almost hard to believe that, as a result of the ego (something that isn’t even fundamentally real), we can come to a point in our timeline where there is a probable possibility of species self-annihilation, whether by accident or by focused intention by the the most megalomaniacal of minds within our human collective. This is a very dangerous way to live and leaves the uncertainty of a bright future, if a future at all, at unsettling heights. It’s time to finally come to terms with how big of a role the human ego plays in all the social and political issues we see all around us and that affect our daily lives. Putting band-aids on the symptoms will not cure the very deep causes of those symptoms.

Thanks to some wonderful luminaries of humanity, we can upgrade our understanding of what ego is from the rather simplistic Freudian view to a model that allows for more complexity. After all, the universe/multiverse as we understand it, is infinite in nature. Within this infinite reality time is irrelevant…the creation of a highly complex non-entity structure-process that has an illusion-generating nature is not an impossibility. The growth, metamorphosis, and transformation of the energy of Infinity can concoct aspects of Reality (algae, poetry, entheogens, lacrosse, etc.), one of them being of such a high level of sophistication that it has influenced the sentient life cycles of entire species like the human race.

Yes, rather than being an actual entity, the ego is a structure-process that has an illusion-generating nature…something that has been backed by not only thousands of years of personal and direct experiences & eastern philosophies, but also by the study of the nature of Reality and its various aspects through quantum physics and other forward-thinking sciences. Having the understanding of what the ego is in this expanded view can help us understand that whenever the ego exists, we exist in a state of confused perception thanks to the generated illusions it creates. This is why activities such as meditation are helpful in the minimization of the ego’s influence over our lives.

Understanding the Illusion

The powerful emotions of anger, fear, envy, and others can be seen as if they were mechanically following tiny signals…as if there was a switch that was pressed. The illusion is that we are seeing something that is an actual experience within an objective reality. However, the fact is that it is mostly a replay of past experience that is modified a little to fit present circumstances. This replay is recorded again in order to add to the previous memory, which ingrains things even deeper, leading us to have a greater conviction in its real-ness. The more we experience in this way, the deeper we get stuck in the illusion. This entire time, we stay in a state of confusion where we think that we are basing our actions on experience itself. The delusional ego has made us prisoners of something that isn’t even real.

Take a look at how prevalent this is in older individuals. The older a person gets, the more ‘experienced’ he or she is in this illusion that has essentially entrained the brain to think a certain way. The older a person is, the more sure he or she is that they “know” what they’re doing, making it very difficult for them to think differently or delineate from the path the illusion has trained them to go down. The essence of such a person’s life is now made up of a series of illusions.

Wouldn’t you like to be free? Wouldn’t you like to be in control of your own life and not have it controlled by something that isn’t even intrinsically real in the first place? You can and you will…if you can over come the great obstacle of fear. This incredibly powerful tool of the ego is a reflex that is set in movement when something that’s identified as very necessary is seen as being threatened. This reflex of fear causes a person to find every possible way of protecting what is felt as being necessary, or it failing this, to create illusions of escape from the approaching danger. In the strong words of physicist David Bohm, “fear confuses, corrodes, and corrupts the mind.”

Money and Government, Freedom and Prosperity: The Federal Dollar Hangs in the Balance

Money and Government, Freedom and Prosperity: The Federal Dollar Hangs in the Balance
http://watchdogwire.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/IMG_1316.jpg

“Was the Fed a good idea?”

That was the theme of the Cato Institute’s 31st annual monetary conference, which brought together financial scholars and policy makers to consider the record of the Federal Reserve since its establishment in 1913.

The focus of this year’s theme was highlighted by Jerry Gordon, former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

“The central bank has now been dominated by people that believe inflation occurs as a result of too-low unemployment rate, and is not a risk as unemployment is above some threshold,” Gordon said. “The monetary policymakers will not give greater weight to inflation until too many mommies and daddies are working, earning a paycheck and supporting their families.”

IMG_1316

Keynote speaker Charles Plosser, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Fed, discussed the limits that are should be placed on the Fed to ensure accountability. According to Plosser, there are four key, necessary limits:

  1. Limiting the Fed’s monetary policy to a narrow mandate with price stability as the primary objective.

  2. Limiting the types of assets the Fed can hold on its balance sheet.

  3. Limiting the Fed’s discretion in policymaking by requiring a systematic, rule-based approach.

  4. Limit the boundaries of its lender of last resort function.

The gold standard was also discussed at the conference. Lewis Lehrman, Chairman of the Lehrman Institute and one of the key members of President Ronald Reagan’s US Gold Commission, argued for a return to the gold standard, calling our time “an unparalleled era of financial disorder.”

IMG_1324

In opposition to the gold standard, George Mason University economics professor Lawrence White argued that our current system is superior.

“I find that most automatic and least managed kinds of gold-based system with free banking can be expected to outperform a gold standard with central banking and to outperform the fiat in monetary systems that currently prevail,” White said.

The conference would not have been complete without discussion about our current economic situation. The financial crisis and Great Recession greatly increased the power of the Federal Reserve. Government has expanded dramatically under both Presidents Bush and Obama. One conference participant addressed this problem.

“Politicians and judges have devalued the Constitution’s founding principles-federalism, separation of powers, limited government, and individual liberty,” he said.

Steve Forbes of Forbes magazine stated, “The only way to increase prosperity is through innovation and productivity. Attempts to manipulate the value of money invariably fail.”

An ‘unprecedented’ international mission is to enter the UK in January amid increasing concern over the country’s press freedom laws. The global community is becoming unsettled by the idea of a Royal Charter to restrict press freedom.

The World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) represents over 100 countries and 18,000 organizations, and is known for its press freedom campaigns in countries such as Burma, South Africa, and Mexico.

While typically examining the press restrictions in still-developing countries, the association is now expressing serious concern over Britain’s reputation, saying that it is sending the mission “in response to recent actions by the British government.”

The visit will mark the first time such an organization has visited the UK. The delegation will meet the government and opposition figures as well as media representatives.

“A press freedom mission to the United Kingdom is unprecedented and we cannot underestimate our concern for what is happening,” said Vincent Peyrègne, CEO of the Paris-based organization in a statement published on their website.

“It is rather difficult for the United Kingdom to lecture Sri Lanka and others about their press freedom record, when its own actions result in such widespread international condemnation,” he added.

Press freedom is to be a subject high on the agenda in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka which UK Prime Minister David Cameron will attend this week.

The mission is responding to actions regarded as divergent to press freedom guarantees – specifically the Royal Charter and associated legislation, but also in response to NSA leak discussions.

Since June, when NSA surveillance activities were first revealed, there has been increasing concern over whether it would cause state-sponsored press regulation and a crackdown on reporting political scandals.

“The mission is a direct response to recent actions widely seen as contrary to press freedom guarantees… and…will also include discussion of the criticism of The Guardian for its coverage of the revelations from former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden,” WAN-IFRA stated.

The Guardian

The crackdown on Guardian leaks has overshadowed restrictions placed on other papers in recent months. Alan Rusbridger, the editor of the Guardian, is to be questioned by British lawmakers next month over the publishing of intelligence files leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, after UK spy chiefs warned that it had damaged national security.

Cameron has said that if The Guardian cannot be trusted to protect issues of national security then the government will be forced to issue a ‘D notice’ to force them not to publish any further intelligence revelations.

British media is currently mourning the legal plans which it says will “mark the end to 300 years of a free press” through politicians “having a say in what can be printed,” as it was denounced in tabloid the Daily Mirror.

The Royal Charter was devised with the intention of establishing a landmark new system of press regulation, causing an uproar among politicians, journalists and media personalities alike. Some have been avid defenders, and others say that it will amount to censorship. The charter itself was sealed by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 30, after an application to prevent the charter getting the royal seal of approval was dismissed.

Discussions of the Royal Charter emerged after a widespread practice of phone-hacking was revealed by several large newspapers and media companies. Among the targets were Royal Family members and relatives of the 7/7 bombings.

The Leveson Inquiry was set up in November 2012 to examine how the press had ‘wreaked havoc with the lives of innocent people’.

Freedom tower might not be the nation’s tallest building

The Freedom Tower is at the mercy of a committee of architects who may decide the tower is NOT the nation’s tallest building.

At odds is a design change involving the towers 408 foot needle at the top of the building.

If the change is made the building won’t be listed at 1776 feet, but 1,368 feet.

That would ruin not only the tallest building label but the patriotic tie that comes with the 1776 number.

There is one other thing to note that has some in the process crying foul.

The building that would re-ascend to that tallest spot is the Willis Towers in Chicago (old Sears bldg) and the committee making the decision is based there as well.

One committee member of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat said “most of the time, these decisions are not so controversial.”

The decision is scheduled to be made next week. For more on the discussion and how the experts are looking into things, click here.

McDonald"s Employee Who Served Raw Burger To Cop Deserves Presidential Medal Of Freedom

Source: Lee Rogers, Blacklisted News

A New Hampshire police officer is complaining that a McDonald’s employee deliberately served him a raw burger causing him to get sick.  This McDonald’s employee not only deserves a promotion but should also be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  It actually isn’t very difficult to make this case.  There is little question that this person is much more deserving of receiving this award than a war criminal like Tony Blair who received the award several years ago.  At least this McDonald’s worker is protesting against a criminal entity that has been destroying freedom in America.   There will probably be a bunch of zombies reading this that will be outraged at even the thought of this but it is actually a serious suggestion.  Police officers are widely hated by a large number of people in America and they only have themselves to blame.  Police departments have morphed into uniformed criminal gangs that no longer protect and serve their communities but instead bully people around with their gun and badge.

Let’s look at some of the facts that prove this to be the case.  There are now countless documented cases of police officers unjustly beating and even killing people.  Many of these cops have actually gotten away with these crimes due to their privileged position as a police officer.  Sometimes police departments have the nerve to charge the person they beat up with crimes like assault and battery.  Combine this with the continued militarization of police departments and this type of thing is only going to get progressively worse.

When cops aren’t running around beating and killing people they are handing out record numbers of traffic tickets to people.  Many police departments have setup quota systems which require their cops to hand out a certain number of tickets within an allotted time frame.  These jackasses don’t even consider the fact that we are in the midst of an economic depression.  Instead, they continue to hand out ticket after ticket even though we are at a point where a lot of people can barely afford to buy basic necessities.  Make no mistake about it, speed limit laws and many of these other ridiculous traffic regulations are not meant to keep people safe but are instead used as another revenue source for government.  Anyone who willfully participates in enforcing such a system has less value as a human being than the feces that comes out of a pig’s ass.

On top of this, many cops act in a completely disrespectful manner towards other people.  It is almost as if they have some sort of inferiority complex so they have to make up for it by taking a job that allows them to bully people around.  It would be interesting to see how many of these so-called heroes have thwarted or solved real legitimate crimes.  That number on a percentage basis is probably extremely low because these tough guys view writing tickets as a more important task than paying attention to crimes that have real victims.

With all this said should it really be a mystery as to why people hate the police?  They enforce all sorts of ridiculous rules, regulations and laws most of which are totally victimless in nature.  Take for example all of the insanity surrounding the enforcement of drug laws in America.  Do we really need an army of these uniformed idiots running around looking for marijuana, cocaine and other substances?   It should be obvious that we do not.

Businesses around the country should begin refusing to provide service to any and all uniformed police officers until major attitude and policy adjustments occur.  Either that or do what the guy at McDonald’s did and serve them with an inferior product.  This will send a clear message to these criminals that people hate them.  The New Hampshire cop should actually be thankful the McDonald’s employee didn’t do worse to his cheeseburger.  The employee could have dropped a deuce on the hamburger patties if they were truly vindictive.

Make no mistake about it, police officers are not heroes and it is absolutely ridiculous that they are portrayed with such reverence by the corporate media.  Look at how they present stories in which a cop gets killed in the line of duty.  It is as if they want us to believe that their lives are more valuable than someone who isn’t a cop when in reality the opposite is true.  Anyone who decides to make a living as a police officer is less valuable than someone who earns a living by providing a legitimate service that people want.

Some say that not all cops are bad, but this is a misinformed view.  Anybody that willingly becomes a cop to help enforce a never ending list of unjust rules, regulations and laws is mostly as bad as anybody else on these forces.  Some might be worse than others, but that’s about all that can be argued.  The system is so far gone that cops who have any sort of conscience left should quit in protest and find real honest work.  Working as a police officer is dishonest because the profession has devolved into government sanctioned criminality.

“A Taste of Freedom”: Formal Shutdown of U.S. Government Begins Today

Barack Obama Is Sworn In As 44th President Of The United States

Regarding all of those who are living well – off the fat of the land…

The U.S. government began a formal shutdown early Tuesday after Washington failed to reach any real agreement on their federal spending plan – with Obamacare being the single biggest bone of contention.

Thousands of government sites will be closed, as “America’s number one employer”, boasted by President Obama – the US Federal Government, has been forced to tell a few million federal workers that they are now being “furloughed’ (told to stay at home without pay), although Congress did manage last night to approve an agreement to keep the US military’s paychecks coming.

Regarded as Washington’s most bloated and corrupt financial sink hole – the Pentagon has been living high on the hog for a while now. This latest crisis has left a confused Chuck Hagel to scramble with the Earth’s largest-ever game of musical chairs. Reportsclaim that up to 400,000 of the defense department’s 800,000 civilian workers are being furloughed.

Here’s what’s happening to the rest of the US Federal Bureaucratic Army of Paper Pushers and Badge Wearers

In a memo issued by the White House shortly before midnight, the Office of Management and Budget instructed that federal agencies “should now execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations.” National parks, monuments and museums, as well as most federal offices, will close. Tens of thousands of air-traffic controllers, prison guards and Border Patrol agents will be required to serve without pay.”

Is this a staged, bipartisan distraction, designed to conceal what Washington is really cooking up behind the scenes? Time will tell, and soon.

What about all the trillions of Federal dollars tied up in gravy train Federal government contracts? Are those being paid first? Houston, we have a structural problem – with this overtlyfascist system of government.

If they could furlough Congress and Senate – and the bottomless, black hole budgets like the White House’s monthly golf, holiday, shopping and beauty regimes, the DHSNSA and the CIA – and maybe, just maybe then, Americans might have a chance to make some real progress…

WASHINGTON DC: A place were the marginally talented and mediocre alike, can hang out and get paid well to get fat, get drunk, snort cocaine, and use your tax money to hand out Federal contracts to their ‘friends’.
