How I Healed My Mother’s Skin Cancer At Home

coconutbakingsodaFor the last 3 years, my mother had been suffering with a type of skin cancer called Basal Cell Carcinoma. This is the less aggressive form of skin cancer, deemed as non-life threatening by the medical industry, in contrast to the more malignant form of skin cancer known as Melanoma.

The basal cell first began as a small red lesion on the crown of my mother’s head. It would start to bleed, then scab, then bleed again and then scab more.

The scab continued to grow and over the course of 3 years it nearly quadrupled in size. Not only did it grow wider, but it grew higher as well. Unfortunately, it took this long before my mother finally decided to go to the doctor.

She was referred to a Dermatologist by her GP. A biopsy was done and the lesion was confirmed as cancerous. At the initial consultation the Dermatologist said what every doctor says: “There is no cure for Basal Cell Carcinoma, but we can surgically remove it.”
He couldn’t guarantee that it wouldn’t return. Regardless, she scheduled an appointment to have it removed.

Not too long after the surgery, the basal cell returned – this time with a vengeance. It seemed to grow much quicker, and within two weeks after the surgery the bleeding and scabbing was back again. It was extremely frustrating to witness this, and I truly felt powerless over the matter. I made the decision to go to the Dermatologist with my mother on her next visit, and I was prepared to ask him a plethora of questions, my first question being, “What the heck is this thing???”
That is when I learned the medical term for this type of skin cancer.

Taking Matters Into Our Own Hands

Equipped with the term ‘Basal Cell Carcinoma’ and Google, I researched everything I could about it, including natural treatments. I recalled reading some articles about how sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, has a high success rate with various types of cancers, so I looked into the topical use of baking soda on basal cells. Surprisingly, I found quite a few personal testimonies from people who had healed a basal cell completely, using just baking soda and water.  Cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. And that’s exactly what baking soda produces.

My mother had the basal cell removed surgically twice more before she finally let me try the baking soda treatment. And 5 weeks ago is when this treatment began.

I modified the concoction by using coconut oil instead of water, as raw organic coconut oil helps in the regeneration of skin cells. I mixed one part baking soda and one part coconut oil (a teaspoon of each) in a shot glass and stirred it up until it became a malleable paste, which is what I applied to the affected area. The results were truly astonishing.

Please keep in mind that starting at an early age my mother began to experience hair loss.  However, as a result of less hair it was much easier to apply the treatment, and the effect of the treatment was more visible.

#1-Feb-13

1) February 13 – Day 1.

#2-Feb-17

2) February 17 – Day 5

1) Feb 13 – Day 1: On the first night after 2 applications during that day, the entire scab fell off on its own. The area was very tender, and the basal cell was revealed as a fleshy bulb of skin that would easily bleed when even minimal pressure was applied.

2) Feb 17 – Day 5:  The basal cell started to shrink in size. The area around where the scab had been was all flaking, but the coconut oil was helping to clear all the dead skin away.

#3-Feb-18

3) February 18 – Day 6

#4-Feb-23

4) February 23 – Day 11

3) Feb 18 – Day 6:  The basal cell had completely disappeared, and there was no more bleeding.

4) Feb 23 – Day 11: The skin where the basal cell had been was very tender, so we applied Polysporin at night to allow for healing and prevent infection.

#5-Feb-26

5) February 26 – Day 14

#6-Mar-2

6) March 2 – Day 18

5) Feb 26 – Day 14:  The open wound where the basal cell had been was starting to get smaller.

6) March 2 - Day 18: The affected area began patching itself up, closing up the wound. The area was still very tender and sore, so we stopped using the baking soda and coconut oil and applied Polysporin instead.

#7-Mar-6

7) March 6 – Day 22

#8-Mar-22

8) March 22 – Day 38

7) Mar 6 – Day 22: The wound had closed up entirely. We thoroughly cleaned the area and gently picked away all the left over dead skin.

8) March 6-22: The area has remained clear of the basal cell. For now I am continuing to apply the baking soda and coconut oil about once a week. The rest of the days I apply only coconut oil to regenerate the skin. Some redness is visible, but the wound has completely closed up and the redness will eventually go away.

How To Make The Treatment Yourself

All you will need is:
– Raw organic coconut oil (the brand I used was Artisana)
– Aluminum-free baking soda (can be purchased at any holistic health food store)
– A shot glass, to effectively stir the mixture within
– Something to stir the mixture with, like the narrow handle of a small metal spoon.
– Polysporin Triple 3 Antibiotics, or any other antibiotic ointment to apply at night

Stir 1 part baking soda and 1 part coconut oil in a shot glass until it becomes a malleable paste that is easy to apply. It helps to apply a bit of warmth to melt the coconut oil faster, so if you are using metal to stir the mix, let it run under hot water for a bit and then use it to stir.

Use something sanitary and preferably disposable to apply the mixture to the affected area. DO NOT RUB IT IN. Gently slather the area with the paste and let it remain there for as long as possible. You can apply a large band-aid over the area so the mixture stays in place.

Aim for 3 applications a day for the first week, and 2 for the second week moving forward. Make sure to properly clean the affected area before each application. Don’t forget to take pictures so you can keep track of the progress for yourself!

What We All Learned From This Experience

Looking back at the start of this whole experience, I realize that I was just as skeptical as most people with regards to a successful treatment that costs only a few dollars, not to mention one that is sitting in my kitchen pantry! I completely understand why a simple solution like baking soda and coconut oil would be cast aside in favor of a more ‘sophisticated’ treatment.

While I am by no means completely against mainstream or allopathic medicine, it is my opinion that we have been heavily conditioned by the medical industry to believe that we have absolutely no power over our own physical and mental health, and that the solutions and cures to our ailments lie far beyond our reach; that only a large sum of money can buy a cure.
I can’t stress enough that this is simply not true.

Throughout the progress of my mother’s healing, my whole family had experienced first hand how effective an alternative treatment can be. Not only is it effective – it is affordable, safe, and free of side-effects. Needless to say, my family’s opinion on mainstream/allopathic medicine has shifted significantly.

My hope is that people who are going through a similar experience can come to understand the power is in their hands to heal themselves. No one is going to spoon-feed us the truth about how we can heal using simple and affordable methods – especially not the medical industry. We must do our own research and reclaim our healing power.

Blessings, namaste and much love,
Kyneret

WASHINGTON (AP) — Some of America’s best cancer hospitals are off-limits to many of the people now signing up for coverage under the nation’s new health care program.

Doctors and administrators say they’re concerned. So are some state insurance regulators.

An Associated Press survey found examples coast to coast. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is excluded by five out of eight insurers in Washington’s insurance exchange. MD Anderson Cancer Center says it’s in less than half of the plans in the Houston area. Memorial Sloan-Kettering is included by two of nine insurers in New York City and has out-of-network agreements with two more.

In all, only four of 19 nationally recognized comprehensive cancer centers that responded to AP’s survey said patients have access through all the insurance companies in their states’ exchanges.

Not too long ago insurance companies would have been vying to offer access to renowned cancer centers, said Dan Mendelson, CEO of the market research firm Avalere Health. Now the focus is on costs.

“This is a marked deterioration of access to the premier cancer centers for people who are signing up for these plans,” Mendelson said.

Those patients may not be able get the most advanced treatment, including clinical trials of new medications.

And there’s another problem: it’s not easy for consumers shopping online in the new insurance markets to tell if top-level institutions are included in a plan. That takes additional digging by the people applying.

“The challenges of this are going to become evident … as cancer cases start to arrive,” said Norman Hubbard, executive vice president of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Before President Barack Obama’s health care law, a cancer diagnosis could make you uninsurable. Now, insurers can’t turn away people with health problems or charge them more. Lifetime dollar limits on policies, once a financial trap-door for cancer patients, are also banned.

The new obstacles are more subtle.

To keep premiums low, insurers have designed narrow networks of hospitals and doctors. The government-subsidized private plans on the exchanges typically offer less choice than Medicare or employer plans.

By not including a top cancer center an insurer can cut costs. It may also shield itself from risk, delivering an implicit message to cancer survivors or people with a strong family history of the disease that they should look elsewhere.

For now, the issue seems to be limited to the new insurance exchanges. But it could become a concern for Americans with job-based coverage, too, if employers turn to narrow networks.

The AP surveyed 23 institutions around the country that are part of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Two additional institutions that joined this week were not included in the survey.

Cancer network members are leading hospitals that combine the latest clinical research and knowledge with a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. They say that patients in their care have better-than-average survival rates. The unique role of cancer centers is recognized under Medicare. Several are exempt from its hospital payment system, instituted to control costs.

AP asked the centers how many insurance companies in their state’s exchange included them as a network provider.

Of the 19 that responded, four reported access through all insurers: the Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, N.C., and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. One caveat: Some insurers did not include these cancer centers on certain low-cost plans.

Two centers had special circumstances. The best known is St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Treatment there is free as long as children have a referral.

For the remaining 13, the gaps were evident.

In Buffalo, N.Y., Roswell Park Cancer Institute is included by five of seven insurers in its region. But statewide, the picture is much different: Roswell Park is not included by 11 of 16 insurers. Dr. Willie Underwood, associate professor of surgical oncology at the teaching hospital, says that’s a problem.

“Overall, when you look at the Affordable Care Act, it improves access to cancer care,” said Underwood. “When it comes down to the exchanges, there are some concerns that we have. That is not being critical, that is being intelligent. There are some things we should talk about … before they start becoming a problem.”

Melanie Lapidus, vice president for managed care at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, home to Siteman Cancer Center, said she doesn’t think patients realize the exchanges offer a more restrictive kind of private insurance.

Lapidus cited Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which includes Siteman in many of its plans outside the Missouri exchange, but none within the exchange.

“We have had many people say to us, ‘I picked Anthem because you guys are always in their products, and I assumed you would be in their exchange products’,” Lapidus said. “It’s still hard to tell who is in network and who is not.”

In a statement, Anthem said its network was based on research involving thousands of consumers and businesses. “What we learned was that people are willing to make trade-offs in order to have access to affordable health care,” the company said. “Our provider networks reflect this.”

Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City is included by five of six Utah insurers, but Mark Zenger, who manages the center’s negotiations with insurance companies, said he’s concerned about getting left out by Humana, a major carrier.

“We are worried about the potential to have these Humana exchange members seek treatment and have no other option,” said Zenger.

Humana spokesman Tom Noland said patients can have access to Huntsman for complex procedures, on a case-by-case basis.

Some state insurance regulators see a problem.

“I want insurers to be able to innovate and come up with new product designs,” said Mike Kreidler, insurance commissioner for Washington state. “At the same time, there is a requirement for regulators like myself to be vigilant to make sure there aren’t unreasonable compromises.”

The Obama administration says it has notified insurers that their networks will get closer scrutiny for next year in the 36 states served by the federal exchange. Cancer care will be a priority, it says.

Dogs Pass Oldest-Known Cancer by Having Sex

(Newser) – Scientists have spotted the oldest-known living form of cancer, and it’s an odd one—passed sexually from dog to dog over the past 11,000 years, the Smithsonian reports. By decoding the cancer’s genome, British researchers found that it dates back to a dog with short, dark fur and the look of a modern-day Alaskan malamute, reports the BBC. And while it’s old, it only started traveling around the world during the time of Christopher Columbus, probably with dogs who traveled along on sea voyages.

That’s also the time when “humans were really manipulating dogs and breeding them strongly for some product—whether it was a lap dog, a purse dog or a hunting dog,” an evolutionary geneticist tells Nature. The disease is unlike most human cancers, because it underwent a stunning 1.9 million mutations (compared to the several thousand found in ours) and it’s not too scary—typically disappearing from dogs that get it, The Loom notes. That’s quite unlike the world’s only other known contagious cancer in the wild, a facial tumor that spreads among Tasmanian devils and typically kills them in a matter of months.

Oxford Scientists: Conjugated Linoleic Acids Kill Cancer Cells

beefy clas 263x164 Oxford Scientists: Conjugated Linoleic Acids Kill Cancer CellsNatural Society- by Christina Sarich

Numerous journals have reported that conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) have ‘anti-proliferative qualities’ for cancer cells. CLAs are dietary fatty acids, an Omega 6, that have both anti-mutagenic and anticarcinogenic qualities. For men with prostate cancer (currently the second most prevalent type of cancer in Western countries) this is great news. While scientists can’t figure out exactly why CLAs help to dissolve cancerous cells and keep them from multiplying, the news is still helpful and positive.

“The aims of this study were to examine the anti-proliferative effects of different concentrations of a commercial preparation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) mixture of isomers [cis-9, trans-11 CLA (c9,t11 CLA): trans-10, cis-12 CLA (50:50)] and their constituent isomers on PC-3, a human prostatic carcinoma cell line, and to study their effects on gene expression (mRNA and protein levels) of different enzymes and oncoproteins involved in oncogenesis and progression of prostate cancer.”

CLAs also stop estrogen signaling which can cause tumors to grow in breasts, causing lead to breast cancer.

“Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a mixture of positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid found in dairy products and meat from ruminants, has been widely shown to possess anticarcinogenic activity against breast cancer both in vitro and in animal models…Taken together, these findings demonstrate that CLA compounds possess potent antiestrogenic properties that may at least partly account for their antitumor activity on breast cancer cells.”

Yet another study found that CLAs can help stop colon cancer by affecting protein kinase C (PKC) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappaB) signaling pathways.

“Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has anti-carcinogenic effects in a variety of cancers including colon cancer….In conclusion this study indicates that chronic CLA treatment inhibits DCA-induced PKC and NF-kappaB activation in colon cancer cells. These data suggest mechanisms by which CLA may influence the course of colonic cancer.”

CLAs can also lower high blood pressure, reduce bad cholesterol, and even regulate insulin in diabetics. It is sometimes also used to aid in weight loss since it helps to regulate blood sugar levels, and thus stop sweet cravings. Additionally, CLAs reduce food allergies in many people.

CLAs are normally found in dairy products, but there are other ways to consume them (since much of our dairy has been contaminated with hormones and antibiotics). Grass fed meat also contains CLAs (again, make sure you get the antibiotic and hormone-free, non-factory farm meat) as well as some vegetable oils and fortified eggs.

If you want to reduce your chance of multiple cancers, lose weight, regulate metabolism and more, you can start eating your cheese, yogurt, and other organic dairy products. They just might save your life.

Cancer Patient and ObamaCare Critic Says He"s Being Audited by IRS

A cancer patient, who publicly discussed the cancellation of his insurance under ObamaCare, now says he has been informed by the Internal Revenue Service that he is going to be audited.

Bill Elliot appeared on Fox News on November 7th to discuss the cancellation of his insurance. He claims he was told that his cancer was considered “beyond the catastrophic previous condition” and his plan was being canceled because of ObamaCare regulations.

Elliot, who has Stage 4 cancer, informed viewers he wasn’t going to pay the $ 1,500 a month for the new plan being offered, preferring not to burden his family and to “let nature take it’s course.”

After his story attracted media attention, Elliot says his insurance company decided to let him keep his coverage:

“Well, the update on my health is: I went to the doctor last week and he told me that I was in full remission. So, that’s good news; I’m getting better. Thanks to Steve, I wouldn’t have found none of this out, ’cause I wouldn’t have had health insurance to go back. So, I found out that I’m in full remission and that I’ve got four months to go – not four months to go, but be checked every four months.

“So, Monday I got a certified letter. I didn’t get my mail until late, so this past Tuesday I went and picked it up. Lo and behold, it’s from the IRS saying, “You’re going to be audited for the tax year of 2009.”

For Angelo Merendino and wife, Jennifer, their marriage in New York’s Central Park was where they sealed their lives together… “for better or for worse”.

But unfortunately things did get worse. Much worse. Five months after their beautiful union surrounded by family and friends, Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer. The illness, which an estimated 1 out of 8 women (in the US) will contract, is the most prevalent cancer in the world. That doesn’t make the burden any easier to bear.

The couple had witnessed the tragic toll cancer could cause in others, but never expected to experience it for themselves. To bear the burden together, first-time photographer Angelo Merendino photographed each stage of his wife’s battle – from her diagnosis, to her treatments through to the very final stages of her life. The intent was to “humanize the face of cancer” and capture the reality many live with every day.

Merendino told the Huffington Post, “People turn away from the day-to-day of cancer a little more which I understand. It’s painful. Before Jen and I went through this, I didn’t know what is was like either.” Although his initial plan was to only show the photos to his family, he and Jen ultimately “chose to face it head on and put the information out there if people want it.”

The following photographs “show the challenge, difficulty, fear, sadness, and loneliness” caused by the unexpected diagnosis. Most importantly, the images also share their unquestionable love for one another.

A word of warning, the documented journey may be found distressing.

Although it has been a year and a half since Jennifer passed away, the site Merendino created to raise awareness and support of the disease has gained incredible response. “The Love You Share”, a non-profit organization, has mission to financially support women in need whom are receiving treatment for breast cancer. From the proceeds of his book, “The Battle We Didn’t Choose, My Wife’s Fight With Breast Cancer”, 50% of profits go to help other women possibly survive their bout with the disease.

And because of Jen’s bravery, her legacy will live on in the countless lives that may be saved through increased awareness and financial aid offered by the organization. For Merendino, “It at least makes me feel like we made something positive out of something horrible.”
