Starving hives: Pesticides cause bees to collect 57% less pollen, study says

Bees exposed to “field-realistic” doses of insecticides gather less than a half the pollen that they normally do, dooming their young to starvation, UK researches have said. While some scientists hailed the findings, pesticide makers remained unimpressed

In a spin-off of their earlier study, a team of British scientists have revealed how the neurotoxic chemicals contained in agricultural neonicotinoids affect the very basic function of the honeybees – the gathering of pollen, or flower nectar.

“Pollen is the only source of protein that bees have, and it is vital for rearing their young. Collecting it is fiddly, slow work for the bees and intoxicated bees become much worse at it. Without much pollen, nests will inevitably struggle,” explained University of Sussex professor Dave Goulson, who has led the study. His comments were made in a statement released alongside the research.

Goulson’s latest paper called “Field realistic doses of pesticide imidacloprid reduce bumblebee pollen foraging efficiency” was published at the end of January in peer-reviewed journal Ecotoxicology.

The scientists exposed some of the studied bees to low doses of imidacloprid and tracked their movement with the help of electronic tags. Unexposed bees were also tracked, and each insect flying out and returning to a hive was weighed to find out the amount of pollen it gathered.

It turned out that bees exposed to the neonicotinoid brought back pollen from only 40 percent of their trips asopposed to 63 percent of useful trips which their “healthy” counterparts undertook.
Intoxicated bees cut the amount of pollen gathered by nearly a third – overall, the comparative study showed that the hives exposed to the pesticide received 57 percent less pollen.

“Even near-infinitesimal doses of these neurotoxins seem to be enough to mess up the ability of bees to gather food. Given the vital importance of bumblebees as pollinators, this is surely a cause for concern,” Hannah Feltham of the University of Stirling, another member of the research team, stated.

For bees themselves, the cut appeared to represent a sharp decline in the amount of food that the hive’s population received.

Feltham believed the study adds “another piece to the jigsaw” of why the bees have been in sharp decline lately.

Three types of controversial neonicotinoids have been temporarily banned in the European Union after the European Food Safety Authority carried out peer review of several studies showing that widely-used pesticides could harm the bees’ populations.

“It is unclear what will happen when the [EU ban] expires, as the agrochemical companies that produce them are in a legal dispute with the EU over their decision. Our new study adds to the weight of evidence for making the ban permanent,” Goulson said.

But the dispute over the role of pesticides in the so-called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), or mass extinction of bees, is far from being over, the reaction to the study has shown.

“This is a very important study, because it provides further detail on how bumblebee foraging is made less efficient by exposure to imidacloprid at these levels,” said Lynn Dicks, an ecologist at the University of Cambridge.

However, she then questioned the “field-realistic” dose of chemical used by the UK scientists in their study.

“The [levels in this study], particularly the pollen level, are at the upper end of what is found in the field, and likely to be higher than what bumblebee colonies are actually exposed to, because they don’t feed exclusively on oilseed rape,” Dicks argued.

Pesticide manufacturers appeared to be even more dismissive of the study’s results, comparing it to a practice of force-feeding in laboratory conditions.

“It would appear the bumble bees are essentially force-fed relatively high levels of the pesticide in sugar solutions, rather than allowing them to forage on plants treated with a seed treatment. Real field studies, such as those being initiated this autumn in the UK will give more realistic data on this subject,” Julian Little, a spokesman for major German imidacloprid producer Bayer AG has said.

Whether such open-field tests could provide a more balanced data is another issue the researchers have been arguing over. Some say that properly controlled field trials are difficult to conduct, as neonicotinoids have been widely used and bees range over wide areas to gather pollen.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In taking a deep look at trouble inside U.S. nuclear forces, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is searching for the root causes of recent Air Force missteps but also for ways to make the nuclear warrior’s job more attractive at a time when the military has turned its attention away from such weapons.

Nuclear missile duty has lost its luster in an era dominated by other security threats. It’s rarely the career path of first choice for young officers. And yet Hagel and others say it remains important to U.S. national security.

On Friday he put the magnitude of the Air Force’s nuclear responsibilities in stark terms, quoting President John F. Kennedy who said in 1963 that nuclear airmen “hold in their hands the most awesome destructive power that any nation or any man has ever conceived.” And so it is worrisome, Hagel said, to realize that some of those same airmen may use drugs, cheat on their proficiency tests and have engaged in other dangerous misbehaviors.

The Associated Press in 2013 exposed a number of serious missteps in the nuclear missile force, including training gaps, leadership lapses, inspection failures, deliberate violations of security rules and elevated levels of domestic violence and other misconduct.

Hagel now wants to know what ails the force.

“We know that something is wrong,” he said, and it includes what some call an attitude problem inside the force.

Dissatisfaction among the officers responsible for operating intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs, is not new, but it appears to be grabbing the attention of more senior Pentagon leaders, including Hagel and Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James, who was sworn in Friday as the service’s top civilian official.

“Recent allegations regarding our ICBM force raise legitimate questions about (the Pentagon’s) stewardship of one of our most sensitive and important missions,” Hagel said Friday at the swearing-in ceremony for James, who has been on the job for four weeks and is only the second woman to lead the Air Force.

“Restoring confidence in the nuclear mission will be a top priority,” he added.

One repair tool that James and Hagel might choose is incentive pay or other extra benefits for the young officers who do as many as eight 24-hour shifts per month in the underground command bunkers from which they would execute any presidential order to launch a nuclear-tipped Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM.

The ICBM force has shrunk by about half since its Cold War peak, with 450 Minuteman 3 missiles now stationed in underground silos spread across vast expanses of Montana, North Dakota and portions of Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska. It’s not a growing business. The Obama administration is considering reducing to 400 missiles as it prepares to adhere by 2018 to limitations under the New START treaty with Russia.

Hagel wondered out loud Friday whether the remoteness of these ICBM locations might be a factor in dampening morale among missile operators.

“Do they get bored?” he asked.

More broadly, Hagel is searching for the underlying reason for the failures in the Air Force ICBM force that prompted him Thursday to order an “action plan” from military leaders to identify remedies. He also said he would convene a nuclear summit at the Pentagon to address nuclear personnel problems.

The incentives idea has bounced around the Air Force for at least several years but gained little traction, likely because it does not address the root cause of weak morale in the unheralded ICBM force.

“I’m not sure that simply throwing money at the problem is going to cure all the issues,” said Dana E. Struckman, a retired Air Force colonel who served as a Minuteman 3 missile squadron commander in 2003-05.

“What the young men and women on the crew force would like to see is, this is a viable career path for me even if I’m not the star of the squadron,” he said in an interview Friday. Struckman, who retired in 2010 after 22 years in the Air Force, is an associate professor in national security at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

ICBM duty may never have been glamorous, but in the years after the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991 it appears to have become less attractive as the Air Force shifted some of its focus to wars in the Mideast and emerging threats like cyberwarfare. Hagel’s review is likely to tackle this aspect of the problem, although solutions seem elusive.

The challenge of keeping reliable and experienced people in the ICBM field was highlighted in a little-noticed report published last year by the RAND Corp., a federally funded think tank that has long studied nuclear issues.

“As the role of the nuclear mission is perceived to be less important to the country, it may be more difficult to attract and retain the high-quality workforce needed,” the report said, referring not only to the ICBM force but also segments of the defense industry that support the nuclear mission.

Air Force leaders have been aware for some time that its missile crews feel high levels of stress. Last September the Air Force said the commander of its ICBM forces, Maj. Gen. Michael Carey, had fashioned a “Professional Actions” campaign that it said was designed to “mitigate stressors” on the troops. The campaign’s details were not made public, and Carey was fired in October for what investigators called inapproporiate behavior overseas.

The nuclear mission has faded so far into the consciousness of the American public over the past decade or two that 20-something Air Force officers who are pulled into duty at ICBM bases sometimes know little of its purpose.

Col. Robert W. Stanley II, commander of the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., which has responsibility for 150 of the Air Force’s 450 Minuteman 3 nuclear missiles, recalled in an interview his astonishment at hearing one security troop’s response when Stanley asked him what is the ICBM mission.

“He said, ‘Sir, I think probably to guard the frontier,’” Stanley recalled. “And I thought to myself, ‘Oh, my God.’”

Air Force leaders say some of the problems that have surfaced recently can be attributed at least in part to the fact that the ICBM force is populated with some of the youngest people in the Air Force. The men and women who operate the missiles, for example, are generally lieutenants and captains, the youngest of the Air Force officer corps.

In recent years the ICBM force has recorded higher levels of courts martial and administrative punishments than the overall Air Force, according to statistics obtained by the AP through the Freedom of Information Act.

Last year, for example, there were 28 courts martial in the ICBM force, which is comprised of the 90th, 91st and 341st missile wings. That is about 3.5 for each 1,000 members of the force, compared to 2.27 per 1,000 in the overall Air force. There were 19.9 cases of administrative punishment, known in military parlance as Article 15 actions, per 1,000 ICBM members last year, compared to 18.4 per 1,000 in the overall Air Force.

The ACLU accuses Mercy Health Partners of negligence for, among other things, failing to direct Tamesha Means to a hospital that could have safely terminated her nonviable pregnancy after her water broke at only 18 weeks gestation. John K. Ross points out that Means could not have easily gone to another hospital, perhaps one offering the full range of women’s health services, because there is no such hospital, thanks to a stupid law preventing competing facilities from opening.

New Study: ‘Geoengineering to Cause Drought Worldwide’

Print Friendly

By Shepard Ambellas | November 10, 2013 | 1:43pm EST

A new study finds that geoengineering does exactly the opposite of what it’s supposed to do. Meanwhile, governments continue the cover-up of chemtrail applications worldwide.

(INTELLIHUB) — A recent study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres[1] points out that global geoengineering applications actually do exactly the opposite of what proponents of geoengineering and scientists claim. Geoengineering activists and others have touched on this as well. However, geoengineering agendas still remain in full swing worldwide despite the public outcry and awakening. In fact, now private companies are even geoengineering our oceans under permits issued by United Nations (U.N.) blanketed programs against the best interests and will of the people.

While none of this should come as a surprise, especially if you have read white papers such as Henry Kissinger’s National Security Study Memorandum 200: Implications of Worldwide Population Growth for U.S. Security and Overseas Interests (NSSM200)[2]. This very document authored by Kissinger in 1974 and released by the National Security Council (N.S.C.), detailed how there would be a need to control population growth in the world and also pointed out that weather and drought would indeed play into the overall plan. The memo even detailed that Africa and the mid-East would likely sustain heavy drought in the future reducing population numbers in third-world regions as a result. Interestingly enough, what we see to this day is an agenda that literally fall lockstep with Kissinger’s plan.

Now, most recently we can see with the publication entitled The hydrological impact of geoengineering in the Geoengineering Model Inter-comparison Project (GeoMIP) information emerging that was previously withheld from the public by government and military agencies at all costs. ”The research found that geoengineering would cause a drop in both the amount and frequency of precipitation worldwide, particularly over some land areas. In the dozen computer models used for the study, monsoonal rains dropped by an average of 7 percent in North America, 6 percent in East Asia and South America and 5 percent in South Africa. Those seasonal rains are vital for sustaining crops in highly populated regions and substantial changes to monsoon seasons could have wide ramifications for food availability and political stability. In addition, the study found that average global precipitation could drop by about 4.5 percent.”, reported Andrew Freeman with ClimateCentral.org.[2] This is exactly the information the governments worldwide have been suppressing for over three decades.

John Fasullo, climate researcher and author of the study explained how “you have to pick your poison”,  because what we are seeing now after careful study, is that geoengineering applications have both their upsides and downsides. Although right now it appears the downsides outweigh the positive effects yielded from such terraforming procedures. “The new study simulated the effects of using solar radiation management in an environment in which the amount of greenhouse gases in the air is four times the level observed at the start of the industrial revolution. That is far higher than today, since the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main long-lived greenhouse gas, in the atmosphere has not yet doubled from the preindustrial level.

The study found that blocking some incoming solar radiation would alter the temperature profile of the atmosphere by cooling the lower atmosphere. At the same time, increased amounts of greenhouse gases would continue to warm the air at higher altitudes. That would make the atmosphere more stable and reduce the amount of storminess that would occur, said Simone Tilmes, a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo.

According to Tilmes, “it’s not possible” for geoengineering to bring the climate back to where it was in preindustrial times, because the climate system will still be responding to the increased amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.”, reported ClimateCentral.org in an amazingly astute piece.[3]

Recently the issue of geoengineering has gained major traction a key documentary films such as SHADE the Motion Picture and What In the World Are They Spraying? have done an excellent job of bringing this suppressed information out to the masses. Both films come highly recommended and can be used as a tool to educate others, bringing them up to speed on these very issues rather quickly.

Would Congress Deliberately Cause Social Upheaval?

October 16, 2013

socialupheaval.jpgThroughout history the Illuminati bankers have always
economic turmoil to advance their goal of world government tyranny.

By the time you read this, I hope the US Congress will have fixed the debt ceiling and government
shutdown. But if they don’t and the situation deteriorates, it is useful to recall the big picture. Therefore, for newbies, I reprise my article. Illuminati Bankers Seek “Revolution” by Economic Means, written in 2008 in the depth of the credit crisis.

For the past year, we have been hearing reports of the DHS stocking up on ammunition. We have learned of the extent of NSA surveillance. The social upheaval caused by another economic crisis would be the catalyst to justify such precautions. Over the weekend, we heard of glitches in the food stamp program, inauspicious reminders of what might happen if the government cannot feed recipients of aid, who number 44 million people by some estimates.

The Illuminati believe their new world order will emerge from the ruins of the old order. They see chaos and destruction as necessary for this “creative” process. The Illuminati bankers deliberately undermined efforts to prevent the 2007 credit crisis.

Thus, it is possible they are behind the current crisis as well. “Debt” is not a real issue. Money is a medium of exchange like a coupon; it has no intrinsic value. The USD provides necessary liquidity for the whole world. It is the oxygen to the economic fire. The US debt will never be paid back; it’s not supposed to be. The United States can comfortably service it as long as the economy is humming.

The “Tea Party” with their fixation on debt is a creation of the Illuminati bankers via The Koch Brothers.    It’s possible that the Tea Party’s purpose is to create economic chaos. They are dupes who have no understanding of money. The real issue which they ignore is creating money debt-free, not strangling the recovery by austerity.

The United States has been printing money and spending it without any sign of inflation. The economy is recovering slowly and the stock market is at new highs. What could go wrong?

An age-old diabolical plan for world tyranny is the only possibility. Wednesday morning, markets are acting as if there already is a deal. I hope they are right.

Illuminati Bankers Seek “Revolution” by Economic Means

Oct 12, 2008

by Henry Makow Ph.D.

The Illuminati bankers had us where they wanted Friday.  Everyone was in a panic, dumping anything of real value — gold, real estate, oil — and rushing into US dollars, a medium of exchange created by the Illuminati bankers out of nothing with the help of their government lackeys.

Why the sudden appeal of US dollars? There is a huge shortage of them because the bankers put our money into mortgages and then they crashed the housing market. Trillions disappeared. Now their lackeys in government have to “borrow” trillions to make up the deficit. The result: the bankers are trillions richer.

Did they do this deliberately?  Do you think Rich Fuld, the CEO of Lehman Brothers, got a $ 250 million sendoff for driving his company into bankruptcy?

No, that’s likely his payoff for selling out his employees and his country. Multiply that throughout the financial industry.

Throughout history the Illuminati bankers have always used war and economic turmoil to advance their goal. Since we have enjoyed prosperity, I have been focused on war. But now I must consider how they use economic hardship to advance their world government.

It’s brilliant when you think about it. Depression doesn’t involve bloodshed and the destruction of valuable property. On the contrary, it allows the bankers to suck up real wealth at bargain prices. And people under duress will accept anything to regain the delicious prosperity they once knew.

THE RED SYMPHONY

The key to understanding our world is the 1938 interrogation of Illuminati insider Christian Rakovsky (Chaim Rakover) by the Stalinist secret police, the NKVD. Rakowsky was an associate of Trotsky, and a former Russian ambassador to Paris.

Rakovsky explains that the real goal of Communism is the same as the New World Order, essentially a dictatorship of the Masonic Jewish central banking cartel. The real meaning of “revolution” and all socialist and liberal enterprise is this dictatorship, thinly veiled as “internationalism” and “world government.”  The propaganda about championing the working class and equality etc. is a ruse to hide the centralization of wealth and power in the hands of this relatively small network of Satanist bankers and tycoons known as the “Illuminati.”

Rakovsky explains that war is necessary to revolution. The Illuminati bankers financed Hitler because they had lost control of Stalin. Now Rakovsky invited Stalin to return to the fold and help them destroy Hitler or else they would give Hitler free rein. Thus Hitler was set up for a war on two fronts. First, the two dictators forged an alliance in August 1939, (mere months after the Fascists defeated the Communists in Spain.) Then when Hitler and Stalin invaded Poland, the Allies declared war against Hitler only.

Rakovsky describes how the illuminati use economic turmoil to achieve totalitarian control.

He says Oct 24, 1929, the date of the New York Stock Exchange crash ( “the beginning of the so-called ‘depression’”)  was more important than the 1918 Bolshevik revolution. It broke the “classical American” individualism and resulted in “a flourishing of parasitism, and capital is a large parasite.” It began “a real revolution.”

“Although the power of money is political power, before it had only been used indirectly, but now the power of money was to be transformed into direct power, The man through whom they made use of such power was Franklin Roosevelt. Have you understood? Take note of the following: In that year 1929 the first year of the American revolution, in February Trotsky leaves Russia; the crash takes place in October…the financing of Hitler is agreed in July 1929. You think that all this was by chance? The four years of the rule of Hoover was used for the preparation for the seizure of power in the United States and USSR; there by means of a financial revolution, and here [Russia] with the help of war and the defeat [of Stalin]  which was to follow.” (Full text in Des Griffin, “Fourth Reich of the Rich,” p.273)

obamasign (2).jpgOBAMA IS THEIR FDR

Barrack Obama is pictured here giving the Illuminati sign of Baphomet. Yes, technically the thumb should be folded in, and his excuse is that it is the American Sign Language “I Love You.” Just like Bush who pretended this was the Texas Longhorn sign, these Satanists need a cover story. Have you ever wondered why the ASL signal is so similar to the sign of Satan? ASL was financed by the Rockefellers and devised by Helen Keller, a theosophist i.e. Mason.

History repeats itself because the Masonic Jewish bankers use the same old bag of tricks. If this is an indication, we are in for tough economic times. If the government controlled its own credit, we could easily re inflate the economy at no cost in debt or interest. But with the central bankers controlling credit, I wonder if they will do enough to replace the capital they have drained from the system. [They did.]

The Bush Administration is complicit in  9-11; in blowing the levees after Katrina, and responsible for the gratuitous, costly and deadly Iraq War. How much confidence can we have in them?

CONCLUSION

Insider Denis Healey wrote: “World events do not occur by accident: They are made to happen, whether it is to do with national issues or commerce; and most of them are staged and managed by those who hold the purse strings.”

The goal is always the same: total control of wealth and the human race by the Satanist megalomaniacs and their minions who command our credit. Their vehicle is world government and their tool of the hour is Barack Obama.

Recently I was accused of making the Illuminati my paranoid religion and fitting everything into this pattern. I agreed that people do seek a system to explain the world. My accuser’s assumption was that no “religion” ever is true.  I disagree. Although I would love to be wrong, Illuminati conspiracy does explain reality convincingly.

In an Age of ‘Realists’ and Vigilantes, There is Cause for Optimism

pinochet condor

The most important anniversary of the year was the 40th anniversary of 11 September 1973 – the crushing of the democratic government of Chile by General Augusto Pinochet and Henry Kissinger, then US secretary of state. The National Security Archive in Washington has posted new documents that reveal much about Kissinger’s role in an atrocity that cost thousands of lives.

In declassified tapes, Kissinger is heard planning with President Richard Nixon the overthrow of President Salvador Allende. They sound like Mafiosi thugs.  Kissinger warns that the “model effect” of Allende’s reformist democracy “can be insidious”. He tells CIA director Richard Helms: “We will not let Chile go down the drain”, to which Helms replies: “I am with you.” With the slaughter under way, Kissinger dismisses a warning by his senior officials of the scale of the repression. Secretly, he tells Pinochet, “You did a great service to the West.”

I have known many of Pinochet’s and Kissinger’s victims. Sara De Witt, a student at the time, showed me the place where she was beaten, assaulted and electrocuted. On a wintry day in the suburbs of Santiago, we walked through a former torture centre known as Villa Grimaldi, where hundreds like her suffered terribly and were murdered or “disappeared”.

Understanding Kissinger’s criminality is vital when trying to fathom what the US calls its “foreign policy”. Kissinger remains an influential voice in Washington, admired and consulted by Barack Obama. When Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain commit crimes with US collusion and weapons, their impunity and Obama’s hypocrisy are pure Kissinger. Syria must not have chemical weapons, but Israel can have them and use them. Iran must not have a nuclear programme, but Israel can have more nuclear weapons than Britain. This is known as “realism” or realpolitik by Anglo-American academics and think-tanks that claim expertise in “counter-terrorism” and “national security”, which are Orwellian terms meaning the opposite.

In recent weeks, the New Statesman has published articles by John Bew, an academic at Kings College war studies department, which the cold warrior Laurence Freedman made famous.  Bew laments the parliamentary vote that stopped David Cameron joining Obama in lawlessly attacking Syria and the hostility of most British people to bombing other nations. A note at the end of his articles says he will “take up the Henry A. Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy and International Relations” in Washington. If this is not a black joke, it a profanity on those like Sara de Witt and Kissinger’s countless other victims, not least those who died in the holocaust of his and Nixon’s secret, illegal bombing of Cambodia.

This doctrine of “realism” was invented in the US following the second world war and sponsored by the Ford, Carnegie and Rockefeller Foundations, the OSS (forerunner of the CIA) and the Council on Foreign relations. In the great universities, students were taught to regard people in terms of their usefulness or expendability: in other words, their threat to “us”. This narcissism served to justify the cold war, its moralising myths and cataclysmic risks, and when that was over, the “war on terror”. Such a “transatlantic consensus” often found its clearest echo in Britain, with the British elite’s enduring nostalgia for empire. Tony Blair used it to commit and justify his war crimes until his lies got the better of him. The violent death of more than a thousand people in Iraq every month is his legacy; yet his views are still courted, and his chief collaborator, Alastair Campbell, is a jolly after-dinner speaker and the subject of obsequious interviews. All the blood, it seems, has been washed away.

Syria is the current project. Outflanked by Russia and public opinion, Obama has now embraced the “path of diplomacy”. Has he? As Russian and US negotiators arrived in Geneva on 12 September, the US increased its support for the Al-Qaeda affiliated militias with weapons sent clandestinely through Turkey, Eastern Europe and the Gulf. The Godfather has no intention of deserting his proxies in Syria. Al Qaeda was all but created by the CIA’s Operation Cyclone that armed the mujahedin in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. Since then, jihadists have been used to divide and Arab societies and in eliminating the threat of pan-Arab nationalism to western “interests” and Israel’s lawless colonial expansion. This is Kissinger-style “realism”.

In 2006, I interviewed Duane “Dewey” Clarridge, who ran the CIA in Latin America in the 1980s. Here was a true “realist”. Like Kissinger and Nixon on the tapes, he spoke his mind.  He referred to Salvador Allende as “whatshisname in Chile” and said “he had to go because it was in our national interests”. When I asked what gave him the right to overthrow governments, he said, “Like it or lump it, we’ll do what we like. So just get used to it, world.”

The world is no longer getting used to it. In a continent ravaged by those whom Nixon called “our bastards”, Latin American governments have defied the likes of Clarridge and implemented much of Allende’s dream of social democracy – which was Kissinger’s fear. Today, most of Latin America is independent of US foreign policy and free of its vigilantism. Poverty has been cut almost by half; children live beyond the age of five; the elderly learn to read and write. These remarkable advances are invariably reported in bad faith in the west and ignored by the “realists”. That must never lessen their value as a source of optimism and inspiration for all of us.

GI Problems Related To GMOs Common Cause For Autistic Children Acting Out

Donna Anderson
Infowars.com
June 14, 2013

Appearing with Mike Adams on Infowars Nightly News, Andrea Lalama looks like any other proud mother. But hiding beneath the surface is a strong, outspoken advocate who wants to not only help increase awareness of autism, she wants to help stop it, and she believes that GMO foods are the culprit.

Andrea Lalama is the mother of two autistic children and the founder of the Reversing Autism Foundation. Her Facebook account, and the accounts of many of her followers, was recently suspended for posting pictures of her children holding posters during a rally protesting GMO foods. Lalama believes GMO-giant Monsanto was behind the suspension.

Here’s the photo of the children that caused Facebook to suspend her account.

Lalama is also a homeopath/holistic consultant and she’s done extensive research on the connection between genetically modified foods and autism. It’s her firm belief that autism can sometimes be reversed by eliminating GMO foods from childrens’ diets.

During her research Lalama found that the toxins contained in bio-pesticides are capable of affecting the intestinal walls, causing gastrointestinal problems, such as gastroenteritis and possibly leaky gut condition, which, among other symptoms, typically result in chronic constipation.

A June 10 article in the Atlantic reports that approximately one in 88 children in the U.S. has an autistic spectrum disorder, and up to 70 percent of them have gastrointestinal (GI) abnormalities at some point during childhood or adolescence. They are also “3.5 times more likely to have constipation or chronic diarrhea than children who are not autistic.”

The Atlantic article continues, “A study published last year in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology linked the GI issues with behavior, showing that autistic children who have GI issues often experience extreme anxiety as well as regressions in behavior and communication skills.” Due to the nature of autism, many children are unable to communicate verbally and resort to acting out when they’re uncomfortable or in pain.

Additionally, prescribing psychotropic drugs to control the behavior outburst may intensify the GI problems. “Once the GI issues are treated, aggressive and problematic behaviors sometimes subside.”

Dr. Kara Margolis, a pediatric gastroenterologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital and a researcher at Columbia University Medical Center, says, “These are kids who, their whole lives turned around when we treated the GI issues,” Margolis said. “They’re not miracles. They seem like miracles, but really all it takes is a recognition that GI things happen in these kids and they manifest in very different ways than in kids who are not autistic.”

Psychotropic drugs to control the behavior only irritates the GI problem, and relieving GI problems with medication only solves the problem temporarily. Once medications are discontinued the problems can recur. Lalama’s research indicates that completely removing GMO foods from the diet may have a lasting effect on reversing autism.

Fierce Selloff in Emerging Market Currencies; India Intervenes to Stop Plunge in Rupee; Brazil Steps Up Real Intervention; Root Cause of Crisis

I’s hard not to laugh at the irony of recent central bank currency actions.

  • After complaining for years about the strength of the Real, the Brazilian central bank stepped up intervention actions hoping to stop a plunge in the currency.

  • Turkey now attempts to attract capital after taking measures for the past four years to stop the flow of money into the country.

  • In India, the central bank seeks to stop a plunge in the Rupee which is at a record low of record low 58.95 to the dollar.

The Wall Street Journal reports Emerging-Market Currencies See Turnaround After Hefty Losses

The South African rand and other emerging-market currencies reversed course to gain against the dollar Tuesday after suffering heavy losses earlier in the session.

These currencies have plummeted rapidly in June, dragged down by expectations the Federal Reserve will taper its bond-buying program later this year. Ultra-accommodative U.S. monetary policy had helped drive investors to seek higher yields in emerging markets in recent years, analysts say.

India’s central bank dove into foreign exchange markets Tuesday to stop the rupee’s slide at a record low of INR58.95 to the dollar. Pressured to attract capital to the country, a top Indian economic official promised a new round of measures to allow foreign investment in currently restricted parts of the economy. The rupee pared losses against the dollar but still fell 0.3% on the day to trade at INR58.34 per dollar.

Turkey’s central bank on Tuesday announced new measures to attract capital after spending much of the past four years trying to stop too much money from flooding into its economy. That helped to stem the lira’s fall to near a multi-year low against the dollar as police moved in on protesters in Istanbul. Turkey’s capital measures echoed Brazil’s move earlier this month to eliminate a 6% tax on foreigners’ bond investments.

Brazil’s central bank stepped up intervention in the face of the rapid currency depreciation that began on May 28, with a series of foreign exchange swap auctions, including two on Tuesday.

Emerging Market Assets Suffer in Fierce Sell-Off

The Financial Times reports Emerging market assets suffer in fierce sell-off.

Emerging market currencies, stocks and bonds suffered a fierce sell-off on Tuesday on rising investor concerns over the prospect of the US Federal Reserve reining in its programme of bond-buying to drive down long-term interest rates.

The South African rand and the Brazilian real touched four-year lows against the US dollar on Tuesday, and the Indian rupee fell to a record low. Even relatively robust countries like the Philippines and Mexico – long favourites of investors – have been hit by a spate of selling.

The FTSE Emerging Markets index fell 1.7 per cent on Tuesday, taking its decline since its May peak to more than 10 per cent. Shares in Brazil – one of the four big emerging markets – closed 3 per cent in São Paulo on Tuesday. That pulled Brazilian shares into bear market territory – a drop of more than 20 per cent from a peak this year.

Both international and local currency emerging market bonds have been pummelled, sending borrowing costs higher.

Benoit Anne, a senior strategist at Société Générale, said central bank money had arguably inflated a bubble in emerging markets, which was now unravelling as investors priced in a change in Fed policy. “This will not be a short-lived sell-off,” he predicted.

Emerging market fund managers have also been hit by investor redemptions. Asset managers that focus on international bonds last week suffered the biggest investor withdrawal since mid-2007, according to EPFR. Emerging market equity funds were hit with the biggest redemptions since 2011.

Cause of the Selloff

Both the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal pinned the blame on the possibility the Fed would stop its QE programs later this year.

I rather doubt that is the cause, and I also doubt the Fed is going to stop QE any time soon.

Instead, I propose this is what happens when bubbles burst. And a huge part of numerous bubbles was widespread belief the growth in China and India will last forever. Hot money plowed into emerging market countries and also commodity producing countries.

Australia is another casualty of the coming bust of China. For details please see Australian Dollar Plunges as Home Loans Dive; Australia Insolvencies Hit Record; Worst is Yet to Come.

To be sure insane amounts of liquidity fueled various bubbles in stocks, in bonds, in emerging markets, but with the global economy rapidly slowing, and with much of Europe in an outright economic depression, the Fed is not that likely to curtail QE soon.

If the Fed does slow QE, it will not be because the US economy is strengthening, but rather realization by the Fed (not admitted of course) that various stock and bond market bubbles pose serious economic risks if allowed to grow bigger.

Root Cause of Crisis

By the way, all this extremely volatile currency action, as well as various equity and bond market bubbles, can be pinned entirely on central banks, fractional reserve lending, and lack of a gold standard.

U.S. snooping revelations cause trouble for allies

LONDON (Reuters) – Revelations of a huge, secret U.S. Internet spying program have raised awkward questions for allies, forced to explain whether they let Washington spy on their citizens or benefited from snooping that would be illegal at home.
