MAIG Mayors Attack Ex-Member Over Confiscation Remarks

Poughkeepsie mayor accused of making “false claims” and “mischaracterizing” MAIG’s goals

Three members from billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s gun control coalition issued a retort defending their anti-Second Amendment efforts and countering Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik’s remarks that the group’s ultimate goal is firearm confiscation from law-abiding gun owners.

Former mayor of Albany, Jerry Jennings (L), former mayor of Utica, David Roefaro (C) and former mayor of Binghamton, Matt Ryan (R), all contributed to piece attacking Poughkeepsie mayor for confiscation comments.

Former mayor of Albany, Jerry Jennings (L), former mayor of Utica, David Roefaro (C) and former mayor of Binghamton, Matt Ryan (R), all contributed to piece attacking Poughkeepsie mayor for confiscation comments.

“We were surprised and disappointed to see in a recent OpEd Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik blatantly mischaracterize the important goals of Mayors Against Illegal Guns..,” the mayors from Albany, Utica, and Binghamton said today in a unified post that also appeared in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The reaction was spurred by an OpEd that appeared two weeks ago in the Poughkeepsie Journal penned by Mayor John Tkazyik. In it, Tkazyik claimed he and nearly 50 other mayors left the organization after realizing their intent was ultimately a forceful extraction of guns from legal and lawful gun owners.

It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns,” Tkazyik stated. “Under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens,” Tkazyik bravely revealed, adding, “Nearly 50 pro-Second Amendment mayors have left the organization. They left for the same reason I did.”

In their short essay, the mayors re-asserted the group’s objective of requiring background checks for all gun purchases, and slammed Tkazyik’s contentions as “false claims.”

“Mayor Tkazyik makes false claims about the group, even saying the coalition ‘intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens,’” the mayors wrote.

Infowars has highlighted numerous examples which support Mayor Tkazyik’s assertions and point to a colluded effort by the liberal democrat establishment to undermine Americans’ gun rights.

Earlier this week, we followed up on a video in which a New York assemblyman was discouraged from bringing up rejected democrat proposals during deliberation on New York state’s SAFE Act. A few of the rejected proposals talked about confiscation of “assault weapons.”

In the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also appeared on station WGDJ and asserted that “Confiscation [of assault weapons] could be an option.”

The former mayor of Williamsport, Pa., an ex-member of MAIG, also said in 2007 that she left the group after witnessing “dubious” attempts to subvert the Second Amendment.

Austin, Texas City Councilman Mike Martinez also made the group’s intentions clear last year during a Moms Demand Action rally when he told a protester that he would make his “Stop Gun Ban” sign “legitimate shortly.”

MAIG has also demonstrated that it isn’t above lying about their efforts. Last year, MAIG Director Mark Glaze boldly told CNN viewers that registration would not lead to confiscation and that no one in California was having their guns taken, when in fact several articles concerning California gun confiscation had already appeared in his boss’s own media publication.

The fact that MAIG members are even addressing Tkazyik’s claims lend his statements credence. The gun grabbers have revealed their hand and are in frantic damage control mode, but no amount of hollow reassurances can diminish the fact that they are waging a war against the Second Amendment.

Lawmaker says bill would protect Idahoans from gun confiscation

A Republican state lawmaker, worried the Obama administration might try to take away some guns, has put forward a bill that would punish Idaho officers for confiscating firearms.

“The supervisors would be penalized if they gave an order to confiscate firearms or ammunition,” said Sen. Marv Hagedorn of Meridian.

The measure calls for a $ 1,000 fine for officers who instruct their subordinates to seize guns based on a federal order. The second offense would slap officers with a misdemeanor and they’d lose their jobs. The penalties are meant to protect Idahoans from having their guns confiscated.

Mayor: Nationwide Gun Confiscation Is Goal of Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. mayor says he left the group over confiscation plans

Kit Daniels
Infowars.com
February 7, 2014

A current New York mayor has publicly announced his decision to leave Mayors Against Illegal Guns because the gun control group demands an all-out “confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens.”

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg co-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns in 2006 to promote gun control.

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg co-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns in 2006 to promote gun control.

In an announcement published by his city’s newspaper, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mayor John C. Tkazyik said he quit the group after realizing it was simply a vehicle for Michael Bloomberg to “promote his personal gun-control agenda.”

“It did not take long to realize that MAIG’s agenda was much more than ridding felons of illegal guns,” he stated. “Under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens.”

“I don’t believe, never have believed and never will believe that public safety is enhanced by encroaching on our right to bear arms and I will not be a part of any organization that does.”

Tkazyik also pointed out that Chicago’s extremely high crime rates are undeterred by the city’s highly restrictive gun laws.

“Depriving law-abiding citizens of their right to own firearms only makes them more vulnerable,” he added.

Tkazyik’s announcement is a stark contrast to the rhetoric of other politicians who want to grossly violate human rights.

At a gun control event earlier this year, Austin, Texas City Council Member Mike Martinez admitted that gun control is simply a step-by-step process to completely eliminate the Second Amendment.

While pointing at a sign held by a protestor which read “Stop Gun Ban,” Martinez said that “someone needs to inform him that there is no gun ban currently, but because of the work we’re doing today, we will make [his] sign legitimate shortly.”

“So you hang on to that [sign],” he said to a cheering crowd of gun control advocates.

And in a flashback to 1995, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Ca.) told 60 Minutes that she wanted to outright ban all firearms owned by Americans.

“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them … ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in,’ I would have done it,” she said.

This is the true intent of gun control, even though many of its advocates whitewash the truth with a variety of propaganda techniques or by just simply being ignorant.

For example, the organizers for the event at which Martinez spoke told reporters that they didn’t want to ban guns even though that is exactly what Martinez demanded in his speech.

Gun control advocates constantly parrot deceptive phrases such as “common sense solutions” and “we don’t want to ban guns” when selling their agenda which will only lead to the complete disarmament of the population by authoritarians.

Fortunately, on the other hand, Mayor Tkazyik is joining an ever-increasing list of public officials who have denounced gun control.

Last month, Detroit’s Police Chief James Craig told reporters that legal gun owners deter crime.

“Coming from California, where it takes an act of Congress to get a concealed weapon permit, I got to Maine, where they give out lots of Carrying Concealed Weapon [permits], and I had a stack of CCW permits I was denying; that was my orientation,” he said. “I changed my orientation real quick; Maine is one of the safest places in America.”

“Clearly, suspects knew that good Americans were armed.”

And last year, Erie Co., N.Y. Sheriff Timothy B. Howard publicly announced that his department would not enforce New York’s latest gun control law, the SAFE Act.

“It’s an unenforceable law and I believe it will ultimately be declared unconstitutional,” he said to reporters. “Do you want law enforcement people that will say ‘I will do this because I’m told to do this, even if I know it’s wrong?’”

It is refreshing to see elected officials serving their constituents while also respecting the Bill of Rights.

Obama Proposes Executive Orders For Backdoor Gun Confiscation

Obama moves to restrict gun rights through medical tyranny

The Obama Administration announced two new executive orders on gun control Friday, after countless other attempts to erode Second Amendment rights failed to gain public support.

gunconfiscationAccording to one of the proposed actions, patient privacy laws would be pushed aside to allow increased government access to mental health records. Currently required to protect that information, states would now be exempt, instead encouraged to submit a patients private records into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

A second proposal from the Department of Justice would “clarify” who is barred from owning firearms, which would include anyone involuntarily committed to an inpatient or outpatient mental institution. In an attempt to diminish concern, the administration claims that seeking help for mental issues does not prohibit a person from firearm ownership.

“The proposed rule will not change the fact that seeking help for mental health problems or getting treatment does not make someone legally prohibited from having a firearm,” the statement said.

Unfortunately, even without the executive orders currently applied, the government has already deceptively used this exact tactic to revoke legitimate gun ownership without due process, an issue that will undoubtedly increase.

In 2012, Afghanistan and Iraq veteran Brandon Raub had his firearms confiscated after being involuntarily detained for psychiatric questioning due to Facebook comments on government corruption. According to Raub’s lawyer John Whitehead, more than 20 others had recently been detained and declared mentally defective in the same Virginia county as well, with thousands more across the country.

That same year, David Sarti, best known for his appearance on National Geographic’s Doomsday Prepper, was committed to a psychiatric ward and deemed “mentally defective” after complaining to his doctor about chest pains. Declining to have tubes inserted into his heart by cardiologists, doctors claimed Sarti was suicidal, prompting the FBI to revoke his Second Amendment right.

The targeting of veterans specifically is quite clear. A collaborative study from 2007 between the VA Medical Center and the Archives of Internal Medicine claimed that at least 1/3rd of returning veterans were mentally ill.

An amendment in a 2012 defense bill spearheaded by Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer attempted to collect the names of veterans deemed too mentally incompetent to handle their finances. The list would then admittedly be handed over to the NICS, removing the gun rights of all listed veterans without due process.

Just last year, countless veterans began receiving a letter from the Veterans Administration warning that their mental health was suddenly under review. The letter continued by saying that the right to own weapons would be removed if bureaucrats deemed them “incompetent” outside of law.

Given the Obama Administration’s view toward returning military, the assault on veterans is unsurprising. In fact, a 2009 Homeland Security report labeled returning veterans as likely domestic terrorists. Despite the outrageous claim, former DHS chief Janet Napolitano defended the report. Incredibly, the DHS announced that Boy Scout Explorers were being trained to kill “disgruntled Iraq war veterans” in a New York Times piece only one month later.

Despite the endless denials of gun confiscation, California residents were greeted by Justice Department agents last year as the state expanded its confiscation program. Lynette Phillips, who had been involuntarily held in a mental hospital after her nurse exaggerated the severity of her condition, had her firearms removed forcibly from her home.

Following the passage of the NY SAFE Act, New York residents began receiving letters telling them to turn in their firearms and permits as well. One legal gun owner had his firearms taken after a provision in the law allowed his medical records, which detailed his prescriptions, to be shared with authorities.

The media and administration’s failure to mention these countless abuses, justified through accessing mental health records, paints a clear picture of how these executive orders would be carried out. Masquerading as a mental health fix, the same system that has pushed dangerous prescription drugs for decades is now using it against law-abiding Americans.

In an ironic and telling move, a Pennsylvania court recently ruled that a state trooper who was previously hospitalized for depression would not be allowed to own a firearm “off-duty.” Regardless if the officer was an actual danger, the court ruled that due to his likely mental illness, he would only be allowed to carry a firearm “on duty,” showing how government is not subjected to the same rules as citizens.

Despite gun homicide seeing a 49 percent drop since 1993, the establishment has continued to ignore facts with its attempt to push gun control.

The same Justice Department involved in gun running through Fast and Furious is now attempting to lecture the public on gun safety, unsurprising given Attorney General Eric Holder’s comments on “brainwashing” the public to be anti-gun.

HEY NEW YORK: REGISTRATION IS CONFISCATION

USA :: Gun Control   ::   Print this Article
HEY NEW YORK: REGISTRATION IS CONFISCATION
12-18-2013 8:22 pm – NY2AGrassroots.com
The SAFE Act registration deadline is fast approaching in New York State. And make no mistake: Registration is confiscation.

We are winning the information war and building a network to influence the 2014 election cycle. The number of anti-SAFE Act signs on lawns grows daily. We are scheduling community forums for January and February across the state. And the governor and his minions have come to expect us to protest his public appearances and even some of his private ones.

But there is danger ahead!

Registration will happen in two ways.

The first is that those who register their so-called “assault weapons” will NEVER be able to sell them within the borders of New York State. They will NEVER be able to bequeath them to loved ones in New York through their estate. Those weapons MUST be sold out of state or turned over to police for destruction upon their owner’s death. This went into effect the moment Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the SAFE Act on Jan. 15, 2013. An entire category of firearms, which in nearly all of the United States are considered to be “in common usage,” but are defined by certain mostly cosmetic characteristics, will be eliminated within just a couple generations. It is long-term confiscation.

The second is much more sinister. The idea that registration leads to confiscation is an oft-spoken mantra among those in the gun rights community. And it is often dismissed as paranoia by the gun control crowd.

But it is not. A precedent exists for it right here in the Empire State.

In 1967, New York City passed a long-gun registry scheme that was at first touted as a sensible gun control law. It was just $ 3 to register and promises were made that it would never lead to confiscation.

The fee to register crept up over the years and one day, by the stroke of a pen, many of those long guns were deemed illegal. Their owners were ordered to turn them over or remove them from New York City. The effects of this are still being seen today.

The really sinister part is that when the state’s enforcers have lists, going door-to-door to confiscate is not beyond the realm of possibility. And that puts both the citizens and the agents of the state at risk. It’s happening in California.

Beginning in April, New York State residents were able to register their so-called “assault weapons” with the state of New York. Residents have until April 15, 2014 to register any firearm that meets the state’s arbitrary definitions of an “assault weapon.”

Obviously, one measure of success for Cuomo’s SAFE Act is the number of people who comply with the registry.

But with no hard numbers on how many firearms possessed in the state are considered under New York law to be “assault weapons,” as well as silence from Albany on how many such weapons have been registered, it is not clear what sort of compliance rate the Cuomo Administration is seeing. However, the refusal of the state to release the registration figures in recent months, even after several FOIL requests, makes it seem very clear the overall number of registrants is low.

An early figure that circulated on the Internet in June put the registration tally at less than 400.

At a recent gathering of current and retired state police officers, the figure of 2,800 was given. This may even sound like a high number for some people who know nothing about guns or the SAFE Act. But State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico gave an estimate of “hundreds of thousands” of “assault weapons” possessed by the citizenry. Other estimates place this figure at more than one million.

Given the fact we are in the eighth month of possible registration the compliance rate is clearly pitifully low. Good!

That’s exactly what we want.

And it’s entirely plausible that hundreds – if not more than half – of the registered “assault weapons” belong to law enforcement.

It is also known that at least one police agency – a big one – requires its members to register their “assault weapons.”

Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, a Civil Rights champion, speaking a few weeks ago on WGY-810 AM, said state police rank-and-file were ordered to register their personally-owned firearms.

There were more than 4,600 troopers in the New York State police in 2007.

From personal experience, we have seen a large percentage of personal semi-automatic rifle ownership among state troopers. The state police only recently began purchasing larger numbers of AR-15s for use by troopers in their official duties. For decades, many troopers and other law enforcement officers have bought their own long guns for duty and personal use.

When Canada enacted its ill-fated firearms registry scheme, the country saw a rush in the final few weeks before the registration deadline. It would be foolish for us not to expect a similar rush this coming March and April.

We must urge non-compliance with the gun registry at every opportunity!

When the SAFE Act was passed there were very few things gun owners could do to modify their rifles in order to avoid having to comply with the registry. But since then, numerous firearms and firearms accessories manufacturing firms have come out with a myriad of products. They are designed to weave around the new gun control laws passed in several states this year, including New York, and this is a testament to American ingenuity.

Some of NY2A’s partner groups are not advocating any modifications to avoid the state’s arbitrary “assault weapons” definition. They choose to advocate a purer form of non-compliance.

We respect and support those groups.

We also understand there are many gun owners in the state who are not willing to break the law or practice civil disobedience. While we wish that more New Yorkers were willing to engage in civil disobedience, we recognize that many who are opposed to the SAFE Act will seek the path of least resistance, while hanging onto as much of their Second Amendment right as they can.

Options to defeat the “assault weapons” registry include, but are not limited to:

open defiance,
quiet defiance,
hiding firearms,
storing firearms out of state and
modifying firearms so they don’t meet the state’s definition of an “assault weapon.”

NY2A was founded as an umbrella coalition to bring in the widest possible range of groups and individuals from across the state to defeat the SAFE Act. We garner our support from the full range of gun owners: Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative and independent. For that reason, we will not abandon those gun owners who will not break the law, nor those who will stand in open or quiet defiance of the law.

We need each other now more than ever.

Therefore, we feel a duty to educate people on all of their options but stop short of advocating a specific course of action. We are all individuals and we all must make our own personal decisions as the registration deadline approaches.

However, we will stand united in non-compliance of the assault weapons registry and the other heinous provisions of the SAFE Act.

We are hopeful the state and federal courts overseeing several legal challenges to the SAFE Act will eventually issue injunctions and ultimately rule the major provisions of the law to be unconstitutional. We are also hopeful we can continue to apply political pressure in Albany.

But until that day when our Civil Rights are validated in court or through legislative repeal, we must weather this storm. And we must defeat Cuomo and the gang of thugs who usurped our Civil Rights by not complying with their “assault weapons” registry.

California: Bay Area Gun Laws will Result in Confiscation of Police Gun Magazines

On November 19, the San Francisco Veteran Police Officers Association (SFVPOA) filed a lawsuit, supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA), in federal court challenging San Francisco’s recent ban on the possession of magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds.   A lawsuit is currently being prepared against the City of Sunnyvale, which recently adopted a similar magazine ban.   Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers across the country currently possess these common, standard-capacity magazines when they are off duty for self-defense, sport and other lawful purposes.   The new magazine confiscation laws will force active police officers in San Francisco and Sunnyvale to surrender their privately-owned magazines – or face criminal liability.

In a recent interview, Larry Barsetti, a plaintiff in the San Francisco lawsuit and a member of the SFVPOA, pointed out that law enforcement officers will be in violation of the ban if they possess any prohibited magazines that were not issued to them for official duties.  When asked to comment, the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office confirmed that the ordinance “does not prohibit off duty officers from keeping their duty weapons because those weapons are issued to them in connection with their official duties.”

Police officers who have any magazines over ten rounds in their personal collections, or any magazines they were authorized to purchase for off-duty use, must dispose of those magazines.  If they don’t, the officers will become criminals.

The same is true for active law enforcement officials in Sunnyvale.  Sunnyvale’s Measure C only exempts police officers who possess magazines over ten rounds “while acting within the course and scope of her or her duties.”

Family members of law enforcement officers are also at risk.  If an officer leaves the house without locking his or her magazines away, anyone who is present in the home will be in violation of the law.

The misguided laws also place thousands of state and federal law enforcement officials who travel through San Francisco in jeopardy.  Many off-duty law enforcement officials lawfully carry a firearm with a magazine that holds more than ten rounds when traveling in other cities and states.   Every time these officers travel into San Francisco or Sunnyvale, they will be in violation of the law and subject to criminal prosecution.

San Francisco and Sunnyvale officers, like law-abiding citizens, will have until the first week of March to turn in their prohibited magazines in one of three ways: turn them over to the police (strangely enough), remove them from those cities in the few cases where it might be possible to do legally, or transfer them to a licensed firearms dealer – who cannot give them back.

It appears these cities snuck a limited police exemption into the law to appease law enforcement, but police officials didn’t realize that the law effectively strips them of their personally-owned magazines.

Will San Francisco and Sunnyvale stick to their convictions about removing these magazines from their borders and actively confiscate magazines from officers who unlawfully possess them?
