"Grammys" event strikes Hill chord

Hanson, Lady Antebellum, Booker T. Jones, Dionne Warwick and Los Lonely Boys joined members of Congress on Capitol Hill on Wednesday for the annual “Grammys on the Hill” day, which pairs pols up with performers for both a musical show and some good old-fashioned policy talks about intellectual property rights.

Dave Haywood, a guitarist for Lady Antebellum, said these type of visits don’t always come natural for him, calling himself “probably the least political person on the planet.”

“For us, it’s always so funny because we stay so much in our world with writing and recording, so it’s always fun to get totally out of your element,” Haywood said in an interview. “That’s why I enjoy these kind of events, to be able to be up there and meet people who do something completely different than what we do.”

He added, “It’s a little nerve-racking. I’m always nervous, because if someone really starts to bring up a big issue, I’d probably look like a deer in the headlights. It’s the same way I feel when I meet athletes. I say, ‘So, you score any touchdowns this year?’”

Haywood’s visit came on the heels of a New York Times report about differences among the various elements of the recording industry about how to best approach their Washington lobbying.

Reps. Kevin McCarthy and Nancy Pelosi appeared at the Grammys on the Hill event and also joined Neil Portnow, the president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, at a dinner Wednesday night.

If there’s any confusion around issues of compensation for artists, Haywood certainly doesn’t understand it.

“I think everybody understands music and understands taking care of people,” Haywood said. “The music industry has gone through so many changes even since we’ve started as a band. … The challenge is always going to be how do you find ways to make sure people are being well-supported for the stuff they’re creating and people aren’t being robbed of that intellectual property? I think it’s a bipartisan thing that people agree on.”

Lack of attendance proves the popularity of basic human freedoms

March 9, 2014

Very few attended a panel discussion on gun control in Austin, Texas yesterday even though the event was heavily promoted by media, proving once again the popularity of the Second Amendment and basic human freedoms as a whole.

Very few attended yesterday’s gun control event. Photo: Stuart Dredge/The Guardian

Key leaders from the three largest gun control groups – Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Americans for Responsible Solutions and Moms Demand Action – not only organized the event but also spoke to the handful in attendance who occupied at most 10% of the available seats.

This despite the fact that the panel discussion was a registered event of South by Southwest, an internationally-known set of film, interactive and music festivals and conferences that takes place every spring in Austin with an attendance of at least 100,000 from across the world.

The lack of attendance for a gun control event is not unusual.

In San Antonio back in October, only around three people showed up for a gun control event organized by Moms Demand Action as a counter-protest to an open carry rally occurring simultaneously at the Alamo, of which an estimated 1,500 showed up in support for the Second Amendment.

The lack of attendance at these anti-gun events reveals that not only is gun control unpopular, but the groups organizing these events are not grassroots as they claim but are rather top-down front groups led by corrupt politicians such as former N.Y. mayor Michael Bloomberg.

These groups pretend to be grassroots to shift attention away from Bloomberg and his true agenda: the complete disarmament of all Americans.

“Under the guise of helping mayors facing a crime and drug epidemic, MAIG intended to promote confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens,” Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mayor John C. Tkazyik wrote shortly after leaving Bloomberg’s gun control group.

Bloomberg’s groups also successfully pressured Facebook to restrict free speech when it comes to pro-gun talk on the social media site.

But why would Bloomberg and other authoritarians want to do all of this? Simple, citizens who lack liberties are easier to control.

“He who becomes master of a city accustomed to freedom and does not destroy it, may expect to be destroyed by it, for in rebellion it has always the watch-word of liberty and its ancient privileges as a rallying point, which neither time nor benefits will ever cause it to forget,” noted 16th-century historian Niccolò Machiavelli wrote as advice to tyrants.

By taking away basic liberties as recognized by the Bill of Rights, authoritarians are preventing real grassroots resistance to upcoming laws worse than New York’s soda ban or Obamacare because subjugated citizens no longer have any fight left in them.

In other words, Americans are being conditioned to become slaves.

But many are still standing up for their rights and it’s also been said that gun owners are planning another rally in Austin in the near future.

The JFK assassination---The Big Event made Simple---50 years is long enough!

Most know the JFK 50 th just passed and much information has been written. In an effort to sort out some of the confusion factors and make the crimes more simple and transparent, the following is submitted:

The Big Events By Magnum Opus

Oswald was working for Bannister and Company even when he went to Russia to make them mad about U-2 spying, Oct 1959. Many didn’t like the 50′s peaceful co-existence Khrushchev efforts with Eisenhower, and worked to end that. Peace was not profitable for Texas or the USAEC nuclear weapons makers of Oak Ridge, which hated that Russian Effort. So, in comes Bannister and LHO to the rescue.

On LHO’s return June 1962, Owald’s infamous Mr. B was Guy Bannister, who was an infiltrator of organizations, which is what Oswald was doing, and at the same time being sheep-dipped to be a Communist and Castro supporter. Mr. B kept the FBI heat off LHO.

Bannister was tight with Hoover, part of all the anti-communist groups and part of PERMINDEX and DISC. Bannister was even tight with Marcello.

Bannister passed LHO of to new handlers in Dallas, and they continued to set him up for the JFK visit. Jack Ruby was right in the middle of things there, along with Marcello’s Corsican shooters, and a few helpful CIA types. They had a huge anti-JFK group there to draw into the JFK hit and get involved even at the levels of LBJ and Hoover. Such knowledge of that gave them immense black-mail power.

PERMINDEX person Jean DeMenil put Castro into power with the idea of cleaning up Cuba and keeping the Lansky drug dealers out and that to keep the English, French, and Canadians (Montreal) in the drug business. Except Castro went communist due to the Russian’s gift of a ship load of crude oil, which the US owned refineries refused to process, so Castro took those over. Then the US owned companies tried to further screw Castro, so he booted all of them out of Cuba. PERMINDEX got exactly what they wanted, which was US embargo to Cuba and no way to run drugs or alcohol from Cuba to the US and upset the French and English drug trade. Plus, the PERMINDEX black-mail got endless nuclear freedom for Israel’s bomb efforts that stole the US blind and LBJ and Hoover ignoring it all, even sending Ed Teller to help them get the H-bomb.

The US tried to kill Castro some 30 plus times, and they always failed because PERMENDEX operatives, in the US, told Cuba’s chief of security, who was educated at Columbia Univ., when and where the hits would come. PERMEMDEX wanted Castro and they kept him in place, and they had the goods on LBJ and Hoover and got lots more payola. PERMINDEX was kicked out of Europe and on the run, but soon made the US their new homes. Until, Jim Garrison sniffed out PERMINDEX operatives connected with Bannister and Shaw, then things heated up seriously! So, they killed more than LHO to silence the leaks Garrison found.

Next to develop some of the material with Reference type materials. Con’t

Preparing for bear, moose and caribou at NRA Women on Target event in Alaska

Lining up a rifle shot during a Women on Target event in Alaska.

Anchorage, Alaska- They do things different up in Alaska.

Some days are saturated with sunshine while others are nothing but night. The only thing that you can count on, besides the people, is the cold. But that doesn’t mean you shut things down. You still go to work, take the kids to school, hit the grocery store and hunt. Which is why an NRA Women on Target clinic is the perfect fit for the 49th state.

NRA Women on Target event during the pistol phase in Alaska

“Larry Boyle and Alexandra Brown do a great job up there in Anchorage,” said NRA’s Women on Target Instructional Shooting Clinic Coordinator Diane Danielson. “They even add an extra Alaskan element to a few of the clinics they hold there every year.”

Women On Target®Instructional Shooting Clinics were created to provide more opportunities for females to learn about shooting. How to handle a firearm safely, where to store it, how to shoot it and more. So what are the extra Alaskan elements that Larry and Alexandra provide?

Alaskan Women on Target participant stands by her caribou target

“In addition to basic rifle and pistol, they also offer clinics in big game rifle and bear safety.”

How do they do that? With a little ingenuity, that’s how.

“They attach a lifesize picture of a bear to a target. The target is then attached to a sled which has been attached to an ATV. At go, the ATV takes off … simulating a charge. The shooter takes aim and fires until the target passes.”

While this can’t truly simulate a charge, the adrenaline rush and whatnot, it’s about as close as you’re going to get. And if you ever come across Yogi and Bubu in the wild, you’ll be glad you had at least a little bit of training.

Just another added extra for your NRA Women on Target clinics … Alaskan style.

Obama, Clintons join forces for Kennedy event 50 years after JFK death

WASHINGTON Wed Nov 20, 2013 12:47pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama joined forces with Bill and Hillary Clinton on Wednesday to recognize the legacy of John F. Kennedy, the president who inspired a generation until he was felled by an assassin’s bullets 50 years ago this week.

Obama awarded the highest U.S. civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to former President Clinton and 15 other Americans who have made significant contributions to U.S. culture, politics, sports and science.

The event was intended as a testament to the memory of Kennedy, who signed an executive order shortly before his death creating the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Kennedy also established the Peace Corps and set the country on a path to landing humans on the moon.

After the event in a packed White House East Room, Obama, Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were to pay homage to Kennedy in a visit to his Arlington National Cemetery grave.

The day was steeped in powerful political imagery as Obama and the Clintons appeared together against a backdrop of speculation that Hillary Clinton may be laying the groundwork for a run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016.

Kennedy was shot to death by assassin Lee Harvey Oswald on November 22, 1963, as he and his wife, Jacqueline, rode in a motorcade in Dallas. America has been awash in televised remembrances of the death of the handsome, vigorous 46-year-old president and subsequent killing of Oswald by nightclub owner Jack Ruby.

White House officials decided to mark the occasion with the Medal of Freedom ceremony to remember Kennedy’s life rather than the macabre circumstances of his death.

Those who stood to have the Medal of Freedom medal draped around their necks by Obama included a wide range of American success stories, from TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey, to former Chicago Cubs baseball star Ernie Banks, to the late astronaut Sally K. Ride to former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee.

The event allowed Obama and Clinton to warm a relationship that has seen its share of strains.

Just last week Bill Clinton jumped into the political fight over Obama’s healthcare law by telling a TV interviewer that Obama should “honor the commitment” he made that if people like their insurance plan, they can keep it.

Millions are seeing their insurance plans canceled despite Obama’s pledge, and the resulting loss of trust in his leadership has contributed to a downward spiral in his job approval ratings, down to 37 percent in a new CBS News poll.

A new book, “Double Down,” by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, said Obama in the past has found Clinton to be exhausting, and quoted him as telling an aide, “I like him … in doses.”

Perhaps mindful of that anecdote, Obama went out of his way to honor Clinton, who was president from 1993-2001 and heads the Clinton Global Initiative, a global charity organization. Clinton’s lifelong interest in public service dates back in part to a 1963 visit to the White House where he shook Kennedy’s hand four months before the assassination.

Obama said he was grateful for the patience Clinton had shown during the endless travels of Hillary Clinton as the top U.S. diplomat.

“I’m grateful, Bill, as well for the advice and counsel you have offered me on and off the golf course, and most importantly for your life-saving work around the world, which represents what’s very best in America,” Obama said.

Obama: Syria attack a "big event of grave concern"

(AP) — President Barack Obama is calling a possible chemical weapons attack in Syria “big event of grave concern.”

Obama says the U.S. is still seeking confirmation that toxic gases were used in Syria. But he says such actions are “very troublesome” and are going to “require America’s attention.”

However, Obama says the idea that the U.S. can solve Syria’s civil war is “overstated.”

The U.S. has previously confirmed chemical weapons use in Syria, a step Obama has said would cross a “red line.” However, the American response has been minimal.

Obama spoke in an interview on CNN’s “New Day.”

Hillary Clinton Paid Speaker at Private Equity Event

Hillary Clinton made a paid appearance last month at the annual U.S. investor meeting of private equity firm KKR, Politico reports.

Clinton did not make a speech, but rather participated in a wide-ranging question-and-answer session with the firm’s co-founder, Henry Kravis.

Clinton spent over an hour answering questions on topics including the Middle East, Washington, and politics in general.

The meeting was held just outside of Los Angeles with approximately 400 people in attendance.

KKR, considered one of the giants in the private equity world, is generally viewed as a bipartisan entity.

IN 2012, KKR entered into an infrastructure improvement plan that was part of the Clinton Global Initiative.

The event was one of the paid appearances Clinton has made since leaving the State Department in February.

Laser Time Cloak Hides The Fact That An Event Ever Happened

This is the first almost-practical application of temporal cloaking … but it might work too well.

Temporal Cloaking

Temporal Cloaking In the middle of the image, the light intensity goes to zero, creating a cloaking effect. Lukens et al.

Electrical engineers at Purdue University have found a way to make your data disappear completely–into holes in time. The technique, described in a paper published online in Nature yesterday, uses pulses of light to create “time holes” that allow communication across optic fibers to disappear completely.

The idea of a data cloak, a way to hide the transfer of data in “time pockets,” has existed for a few years, but until now the effect didn’t last long and wasn’t consistent enough to be of any practical use. This is the first temporal cloak that can work quickly enough to hide data streams in telecommunications systems. It can work to hide up to 46 percent of the window of time it takes to transfer data (one of the first temporal cloaking techniques worked less than one percent of the time, according to a Purdue release).

This cloak works using a wave phenomenon called the Talbot effect. Manipulating the timing of light pulses so that the crest of one light wave interacts with the trough of another creates a zero light intensity–where the two signals cancel each other out–in which data can be hidden.

Hidden Data

Hidden Data: The cloak flattens the wave, making it invisible to an observer.  Lukens et al.

Right now, author Joseph Lukens, a Purdue graduate student, says the cloaking effect is almost too efficient. “We erased the data-adding event entirely from history, so there’s no way that data could be sent as a useful message to anyone, even a genuine recipient,” he told Nature. Future tweaking might solve this problem to allow super-secret messages to pass through undetected and still make it to the intended recipient. But maybe they can use the current version to destroy embarrassing emails mid-send?
