New book claims Hitler escaped his Berlin bunker and died in South America in 1984 aged 95

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read and the sort of tripe I expect from the Daily Fail.

So man in the photo is Hitler…even though the man in the photo has no face. Plus he’s allegedly with his “girlfriend”, a black woman. Considering Hitler’s racial beliefs and theories do you think he’d be inclined to have a black woman as a girlfriend?

48.6% of Spaniards Aged 18-24 Would Take Any Job, Anywhere, for Low Wages; Ikea Spain Gets 100,000 Applicants for 400 Jobs; Walmart, McDonalds Comparison

48.6% of Spaniards Aged 18-24 Would Take Any Job, Anywhere, for Low Wages; Ikea Spain Gets 100,000 Applicants for 400 Jobs; Walmart, McDonalds Comparison

In contrast to McDonalds’ workers in the US demanding $ 15 an hour wages, Almost half of young Spaniards accept any job, anywhere, despite low salary

48.6% of Spaniards aged 18 to 24 said they would accept any job, anywhere and even with a low income. 84.9% felt very or fairly likely to have to work on what is available, 61.7% considered it equally likely to have to go abroad, and 79.2% said they need to study more. Despite this, an overwhelming majority (80%) are convinced that, at least in the near future, will have to be financially dependent on their family.

Future is Black

Young Spaniards recognize enjoy the benefits of the welfare state far more than their parents, except as regards stability and security. They are also convinced that their children will live much worse than them.

Frustrated Expectations

Only 20% of young people believe things will improve in the next two or three years, compared to 36% who think it will get worse. Moreover, nearly three in four young people (71%) considered likely to find little or no work in the coming year.

Ikea Spain Gets 100,000 Applicants for 400 Jobs

Also via translation from El Economista, please consider Ikea Spain Gets 100,000 Applicants for 400 Jobs

The Swedish multinational Ikea will have work to select staff for a store in Valencia because 100,000 people submitted applications to fill 400 jobs.

Ika received a total of 100,000 job applications through a web page offering. In the first 48 hours of processing, Ikea received 20,000 applications.

The store, which will open in summer, will have a staff of 400 employees and also generate about 80 indirect jobs to cover services such as security, transport and cleaning, among others.

Walmart, McDonalds Comparison

To be fair, there is a major difference between McDonalds’ employees and Spaniards seeking jobs.

The McDonalds’ employees demanding higher wages have jobs. Those seeking jobs, don’t.

However, every McDonalds’ employee knew their wage when they were hired. Like Spaniards willing to accept low wages, they took the jobs anyway.

1 Million McDonalds Applicants

I cannot find anything recent on McDonalds, but on April 28, 2011, Bloomberg reported “McDonald’s and its franchisees hired 62,000 people in the U.S. after receiving more than one million applications, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said today in an e-mailed statement. Previously, it said it planned to hire 50,000.“

Walmart 23,000 Applicants for 600 Jobs

On November 19, 2013 NBC Washington reported Walmart to Open First D.C. Stores Dec. 4

Walmart’s H Street and Georgia Avenue locations will open Dec. 4 at 8 a.m. Both the 103,000-square-foot Georgia Avenue store and the 74,000-square-foot H Street location will feature fresh produce, a deli, organic food items and a full-service pharmacy.

The stores will hire a combined 600 associates after combing through the more 23,000 applications its received from potential employees.

The arrival of Walmart has not been a smooth one. Both stores were on the verge of never opening after the retail giant threatened to pull its plans if Mayor Vincent Gray signed a living wage bill.

The Large Retailer Accountability Act, known colloquially as the “Walmart Bill,” would have required  the company — and other big-box retailers — to pay its employees a minimum of $ 12.50 an hour.

Gray vetoed the bill in September.

Minimum wage in the District currently stands at $ 8.25 an hour.

Reflections on Living Wages

Take a poll of those employees. I bet 100% of them are happier to have a job at $ 8.25 an hour vs. no job at some presumed “living wage” that they would not get because there were no jobs.

Of course, now that they have a job and should be happy, some union activist is going to try to convince them they shouldn’t be happy.

The Real Problem

Other than a couple of like-minded Austrian bloggers, no one has bothered to complain about the real problem: The Fed pumping money supply like mad, while holding interest rates low.

Five Results

  1. Prices rising faster than wages

  2. Grossly distorted income inequalities

  3. Non-existent price signals

  4. Interest rates that encourage hardware and software solutions to eliminate employees

  5. Equity and bond market bubbles

I blasted the Fed regarding these issues early Friday.

New figures show British police officers are regularly using Tasers on children as young as 11.

British police officers are regularly using high-voltage Tasers on children as young as 11, a new report says.

According to statistics, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, officers discharged, targeted or threatened to use the 50,000-volt stun weapon against youngsters 29 times in England in 2007, but this jumped to 323 by 2011.

The figures showed an eleven-fold increase in the use of Taser guns on under-18s.

Director of advice service Police Action Centre Sophie Khan described the data as “shocking” and called for a ban on the use of Taser on children.

“The statistics show that the Taser is being used in contravention of the Taser Policy and Guidance, due to the dramatic increase in their use on under 18’s. This needs to be addressed by the police forces immediately before there is a serious injury caused to a child or young adults,” she said.

The figures were released following a parliamentary question asked by British Liberal Democrat backbencher Julian Huppert.

Taser guns emit an electric shock to the target and are capable of rendering the victim unable to stand by incapacitating voluntary control over muscles.

The use of Tasers by British police has more than doubled to 7,250 deployments a year from 2009 to 2011 despite fears of a lack of training for officers, who use the 50,000-volt stun guns.

According to The Guardian, the use of Tasers by police in England and Wales rose from 3,500 to 14,500 in the same period.

Author Iain Banks dies aged 59

Author Iain Banks has died aged 59, two months after announcing he had terminal cancer, his family has said.

Banks, who was born in Dunfermline, Fife, revealed in April he had gall bladder cancer and was unlikely to live for more than a year.

He was best known for his novels The Wasp Factory, The Crow Road and Complicity.

In a statement, his publisher said he was “an irreplaceable part of the literary world”.

A message posted on Banksophilia, a website set up to provide fans with updates on the author, quoted his wife Adele saying: “Iain died in the early hours this morning. His death was calm and without pain.”

Publisher Little, Brown Book Group said the author was “one of the country’s best-loved novelists” for both his mainstream and science fiction books.

“Iain Banks’ ability to combine the most fertile of imaginations with his own highly distinctive brand of gothic humour made him unique,” it said.

After announcing his illness in April, Banks asked his publishers to bring forward the release date of his latest novel, The Quarry, so he could see it on the shelves.

On Sunday, it was revealed the book – to be released on 20 June – would detail the physical and emotional strain of cancer.

It describes the final weeks of the life of a man in his 40s who has terminal cancer.

Speaking to the BBC’s Kirsty Wark, Banks said he was some 87,000 words into writing the book when he was diagnosed with his own illness.

“I had no inkling. So it wasn’t as though this is a response to the disease or anything, the book had been kind of ready to go,” he said.

“And then 10,000 words from the end, as it turned out, I suddenly discovered that I had cancer.”

‘Craft and skill’

Little, Brown said the author was presented with finished copies of his last novel three weeks ago.

Banks’ first novel, The Wasp Factory, was published in 1984 and was ranked as one of the best 100 books of the 20th Century in a 1997 poll conducted by book chain Waterstones and Channel 4.

In 2008 he was named one of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945 in a list compiled by The Times.

The writer also penned sci-fi titles under the name Iain M Banks. His most recent book, The Hydrogen Sonata, was released last year.

Fellow Scottish author Ken MacLeod paid tribute to Banks, saying he had “left a large gap in the Scottish literary scene as well as the wider speaking English world”.

“He brought a wonderful combination of the dark and the light side of life and he explored them both without flinching,” he said.

“He brought the same degree of craft and skill and commitment to his science fiction as he did to his mainstream fiction and he never drew any distinction in terms of his pride in what he was doing.”

Another contemporary, Iain Rankin, told the BBC that Banks was “fascinating, curious and full of life”.

“He didn’t take things too seriously, and in a way I’m happy that he refused to take death too seriously – he could still joke about it,” he said. “I think we all thought he would have a bit longer than he got.

“What made him a great writer was that he was childlike; he had a curiosity about the world. He was restless, he wanted to transmit that in his work, and he treated the cancer with a certain amount of levity, the same that made him a great writer.

“You never knew what you were going to get, every book was different.”

Other authors to pay tribute included Irvine Welsh, who tweeted: “RIP Iain Banks. One of the finest writers and greatest imaginations ever.”

Sci-fi writer John-Paul Cleary also said: “Tragic news about Iain Banks, my hero and inspiration, a writer of incredible creativity and wit.”

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond said: “Iain was an incredibly talented writer whose work, across all genres, has brought pleasure to readers for over 30 years.

“His determination not just to complete his final novel but also to reflect his illness in the pages of his work, will make that work all the more poignant and all the more significant.”

After announcing his illness, Banks had described being “hugely moved” by the public support for him through his website.

“Still knocked out by the love and the depth of feeling coming from so many people; thank you, all of you,” he wrote on Banksophilia last month.
