Senate committee takes up Ukrainian aid; McCain to travel there

John McCain in Iraq, 2007.
The man likes his trips.

A few details of the Senate’s Ukrainian aid bill are coming to light, via Foreign Relations chairman Bob Menendez.

The bill mirrors one passed in the House last week by providing $ 1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees to Ukraine but goes further by containing language allowing a 2010 restructuring of the IMF to go forward.

It also directs the administration to help Ukraine in recovering assets linked to corrupt activities by former President Viktor Yanukovych, provides $ 50 million in direct aid for “democracy, governance and civil society assistance” and $ 100 million for military aide.

The committee will do a mark-up of the bill this afternoon; IMF reforms may be the main sticking point for conservatives, since those reforms may weaken United States’ influence over the organization.

Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain is helping the way he generally helps out during a crisis: by arranging photo-ops.

Seven senators plan to visit Ukraine this weekend to meet with the country’s political leaders and show support for the country’s ongoing standoff with Russia. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who is leading the delegation, confirmed to reporters that he and “a large number” of senators of both parties would be making the trip.

Never really been a fan of senators of either party drifting off to make foreign policy statements in crisis zones, that generally being not their job, but I realize I’m probably in a tiny minority on that one. And McCain, who have we mentioned lately really wanted to be president so he could be in charge of these things, probably gets a warmer reception in Ukraine than he does in his home state.

There Might Be A Big Corruption Scandal Surrounding America"s Dangerous New Painkiller

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg

Ever since a coalition of doctors came out against the controversial new painkiller Zohydro, health officials have been questioning how the drug got approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the first place.

Now, two senators are questioning the ethics of a series of meetings between drug companies and federal regulators, MedPage Today reports.

Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and David Vitter (R-La.) want answers about what they call “pay-to-play” meetings in which pharmaceutical manufacturers allegedly shelled out thousands of dollars to meet with FDA officials who oversee safety regulations on painkillers. The senators suggest these meetings might have helped Zohydro get approved by the FDA despite an advisory committee voting against it.

The FDA approved Zohydro in the fall, and it’s expected to be available to patients with chronic pain starting in March. Dozens of doctors and addiction treatment groups are calling for the FDA to revoke its approval of the drug, which they say is deadly and could lead to another spike in opioid addiction.

Opponents of the drug argue that it will be prone to abuse because the pills contain a high dose of hydrocodone, a narcotic that has effects similar to heroin, and they’re reportedly easy to crush or chew for addicts who want to get a strong high quickly.

The senators want to see financial records — including any payment transfers — for groups connected to the University of Rochester that reportedly set up the meetings between drug company representatives and FDA officials, according to MedPage Today.

Zohydro’s initial manufacturer, Elan (now Alkermes), reportedly paid to send a representative to these private meetings. (The drug is marketed in the U.S. by a third company, Zogenix.)

In their letter, the senators allege these meetings gave the drug companies “undue influence over FDA’s approval process for prescription painkillers.”

University of Rochester Medical Center spokesman Christopher DiFrancesco denied to MedPage Today that these were “pay-to-play” meetings. He said participants were not allowed to discuss specific drugs and that the meetings had no bearing on the FDA’s decisions about whether or not to approve certain drugs.

There Is A War For Your Mind

I have been hesitant as of late, debating with myself as to whether or not I should create this thread. Alas, I have finally decided to go along with it.

In today’s world, we are bombarded by a combination of (mis/dis)information on all fronts. There is controlled opposition at every turn; from politics, social media, to even AboveTopSecret. I believe as of late, the latter two have come under intense scrutiny by The Powers That Be, for their ability to allow like-minded people across many thousands or hundreds of miles to share their ideas, thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The internet has virtually became an artificial telepathic experiment to test the limits of such a social experiment.

In ways, this has been good for those in control of the world, through top-secret and classified operations like Prism, which allows the collection of meta-data on virtually every American citizen, and every other citizen of the world in ‘opposing’ countries, such as : China, Russia, Iran, Korea, Japan, etc. However, as we saw in the cases of Sandy Hook and the Boston marathon bombing, this has allowed hundreds of dozens of very intelligent and creative people, the ability to band together and dissect ‘official’ stories, in order to find the glaring inconsistencies. It is because of this reason that I believe that not only this forum, but many others that follow the same line of thinking, have been infiltrated by people with ulterior motives rather than ‘denying ignorance’ and discussing conspiracy theories. These kind of people tend to be more oriented towards ridicule, name-calling, demonizing, perpetrators of ad hominem attacks, and feigned ignorance so as to promote the current paradigm of ignorance. These suspects also give the air of authority as if they are more knowledgeable on every other subject than you are by referring you back to the propaganda of the Machine.

I encourage you members of ATS, to pay more attention to your fellow members here. It seems that we have a few dividing lines between us here, to what you could call classifications of ‘conspiracy theorists level’. You have those of us here, which may be hardcore conspiracy theorists who literally see the conspiracy in everything. You have some fence sitters that have still not released the asinine idea of any ‘higher authority’ than oneself, and have taken to letting themselves be manipulated by those in power, by adhering to such a belief. Then, you have those who are just awakening to the subtle ‘wrongs’ of the world, and are looking for answers…

These are the members here in the most danger from what has been coined ‘shills’, because they do not see the colors of members for what they really are. Then, you have the hardcore debunkers, who never create a thread explaining or discussing a conspiracy; but post more material that is seen as ‘alternative news’ which doesn’t quite make it to the mainstream headlines. However, these are also the same people who make it a point to show up in each and every thread and start an argument with somebody to prove their e-telligence by defending the established, inside-the-box way of thinking.

When you begin to look at the big picture, you start to see that there is indeed a war on for our minds, to control the information that we believe and give power to… There is a concert effort to draw people away from ‘conspiracy theorizing’ and is done by a deliberate disinfo campaign, demonization, and ridicule. Free-thinking is discouraged by labeling those who think outside the box with ‘fringe’-like labels such as ‘birthers’, ‘hoaxers’, conspiracy nuts, new-age mumbo jumbo, and even accuse members of deliberately lying to others in order to get e-fame. In a world where the final stage for the battle of Good (Knowledge) and Evil (Ignorance) is being created, one begins to see that we are coming of our last days. It’s as if there is a tug of war going on for the physical, emotional, and spiritual state of mankind between those who promote evil, selfishness, and greed; to good, love, unity, and compassion.

They are attempting to keep us all busy arguing with their agents of ignorance, all the while, they are hiding behind the scenes with the ‘big master plans’. They know that if we were ever to pool our resources and intellect together, it would be game-over. So, they keep us divided, and fighting amongst ourselves, whether it is religion, race, same-sex marriage, left vs. right, conspiracy or not, so forth. The point I presume that I am getting to is quite simple… ATS and social media has been infiltrated; there is indeed a war going on for the minds, bodies, and souls of humanity. There are those out there who give the air of authority as if they know what they are talking about, when in reality they are nothing more than highly-trained robots, engineered from birth to protect the system of The Matrix until their dying breath, regurgitating every learned ‘fact’ however wrong, as a debunking or rebuttal of the free-thoughts of our creative and intelligent members. For those of you who feel as if I have touched something in you with my message, I encourage you to keep a watchful eye for repetitive patterns of opposition by those who oppose you during your daily postings. Finally, I would like to end this thread with a quote from Buddha.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who say it, unless it agrees with your own reason and common sense. – Buddha

Alas, it matters not if Buddha actually said this or not, because it holds truth regardless of who said it. Furthermore, do not allow yourselves to be swayed so easily by being lazy and expecting knowledge and enlightenment to fall into your open lap by simply asking. If there is anything you desire to know in this world, the often underrated “Ireaditonthe” internet, can help you learn. Take into account the views and ideas of others but also research them, and try to understand who is more likely to be truthful. Follow the money trail; those with the most to gain by lying will do so… Internet fame is nothing, and is a childish trick by the agents of ignorance, to belittle the importance of the ideas of unknown people by rationalizing it as “Oh they are just some nutter trying to get famous.”

There Is No Reason To Fear The New World Order Trying To Discredit You

Many conspiracy theorists fear that saying things about “way out there” conspiracies like the alien cover-up and holographic planes on 9/11 will discredit them simply because humans, by nature, will not believe things that sound too crazy to believe. They also fear that the New World Order will try to discredit conspiracy theorists who talk about these “way out there” subjects just like how the New World Order nitpicks every single mistake conspiracy theorists make to try to discredit them. Well guess what folks, the New World Order is severely discrediting themselves when they do this, so there is no reason to fear the New World Order discrediting you for making mistakes and discussing conspiracy theories that sound too crazy to believe!

In my recent interview with ET contactee and metaphysics expert George Kavassilas, I discussed with George about how his original prediction about Earth ascending into 5D consciousness between the 2012 December solstice and the 2013 March equinox turned out to be wrong (he did retract that prediction in late 2011, but sadly many people didn’t seem to listen and now as a result people try to discredit him.) George told me that he actually wants New World Order forces to try to discredit him because when they do that, they are basically making themselves more out in the open which can wake up more sheeple. He said that by giving the New World Order more “discrediting ammunition,” we can more easily crush the New World Order.

There are 22,000 homeless children in New York--the most since the Great Depression.

Even her name, Dasani, speaks of a certain reach. The bottled water had come to Brooklyn’s bodegas just before she was born, catching the fancy of her mother, who could not afford such indulgences. It hinted at a different, upwardly mobile clientele, a set of newcomers who over the next decade would transform the borough.

Dasani’s own neighborhood, Fort Greene, is now one of gentrification’s gems. Her family lives in the Auburn Family Residence, a decrepit city-run shelter for the homeless. It is a place where mold creeps up walls and roaches swarm, where feces and vomit plug communal toilets, where sexual predators have roamed and small children stand guard for their single mothers outside filthy showers.

It is no place for children. Yet Dasani is among 280 children at the shelter. Beyond its walls, she belongs to a vast and invisible tribe of more than 22,000 homeless children in New York, the highest number since the Great Depression, in the most unequal metropolis in America.

There is a war going on for your soul (93 replies)

No longer is it a secret. The cat is out of the bag. Back in the 60’s and 70’s as we listened to the Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and KISS (to name a few) we loved the music. It was easy to dance to. A new generation of Rock N Roll that changed the world! It was drugs, sex and rock and roll! Often we did not listen to the lyrics because it was the rhythm and the beat of the music that struck our heart not necessarily the lyrics.

Once we found out that if you spin some records backwards on your record player and you could hear the artists praying and worshipping to Satan. The music industry and television played if off and laughed at this making it appear to be a P.R. gag – advertisement – making jokes about myths of an invisible evil individual known as Satan and his alleged evil world. Even the artist would laugh and smile when questioned about this. But is that really true?

Lets take a look at a couple of new bands coming out. They are packing the stadiums. Entire shows being sold out in a matter of a few hours. Now this is not the only ones who put on an evil display, there are many out there. This is a small taste of what is out there.

Lets take a look at a couple of videos but first a warning: Do not watch this if you are sensitive, a child, or someone who is weak hearted.

www.youtube.com…
Due to the graphic material of this youtube content you will have to sign in at Youtube to view this clip.

www.youtube.com…

The times are drawing to a close. For those who have the true gift of discernment they can see that Satan and his followers are recruiting followers at an alarming rate and they are not holding back any longer.

Satan and his demons are stepping up and showing their selves through these bands and their lyrics. No longer must you sign a contract with Satan to receive spiritual and material gifts. A simple yes will suffice. As with the band above between their songs the priest will preach the word of Satan and ask for commitments to Satan from the audience.

These bands mystically put their audiences into a frenzy which can lead to full body possession of an evil entity. Satan wants you and he will lie, steal and kill to get you and once he becomes a part of your life it is very hard to get rid of him. He knows the secret it is to reach out to our children; to the young mind which is not fully matured and easily manipulated.

Stay away from this type of music it is dangerous. Do not attend their concerts it is nothing more than a platform to recruit young people. Listening to these types of bands opens spiritual doors. Doors that can be hard to close. By the time one realizes he or she is having spiritual issues/attacks often it leads to injuries sometimes even suicide and/or death.

TO ALL PARENTS: Please be careful and monitor your children. These songs can be downloaded on the internet, watched on Youtube and are sold at music stores. If your child has become rebellious towards you it could be a spiritual problem.

If anyone has spiritual issues such as hearing voices either inside your head or outside and do not see anyone around, seeing things that are there and the next second they are gone, being awaken at night (mostly around 3am to 4 am) have uncontrollable fear etc…. and need assistance please fell free to contact me and send me a message. All communication will be handled as confidential.

God bless you.

Expert: “There may be an accident of criticality” during fuel removal at Fukushima Unit 4 — TV: Rods could crumble, frightening that Tepco is in charge of potential catastrophe (VIDEOS)

AFP, Nov. 7, 2013: Experts warn that any slip-ups could quickly cause the situation to deteriorate. Even minor mishaps will create considerable delays to the already long and complicated decommissioning. If the rods are exposed to the air they would release radiation and could heat up, a process that if left unchecked could lead to a self-sustaining nuclear reaction. TEPCO says that is unlikely, but sceptics say that with so many unknowns in the novel operation, there is potential for a catastrophe. [...] “Any trouble in this operation will considerably affect the timetable for the entire project,” he said. “This is an operation TEPCO cannot afford to bungle.” Hiroaki Koide, assistant professor at Kyoto University Reactor Research Institute in Kyoto, said success was far from guaranteed. “It is not easy work,” he said. The comments reflect an increasingly widespread view that the giant utility is not capable of dealing with the mess its nuclear plant has created.

The Real News, Nov. 8, 2013 — Arjun Makhijani, President of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, Ph.D. in engineering (specialization: nuclear fusion) from the University of California at Berkeley (at 2:30 in): The spent fuel may be difficult to dislodge because it’s no longer in its proper original position. The fuel rods may break, and the fuel may wind up at the bottom of the reactor in the spent fuel pool. There may be an accident of criticality. I haven’t examined their plans in detail, but I do think it is very essential to remove this spent fuel, because in my judgment, the bigger danger is leaving it there and waiting for the earthquake to happen.

RT, Nov.7, 2013 — Kevin Kamps, Beyond Nuclear: The fuel itself could be bent, it could be damaged, it could be corroded. They used salt water at one point to cool the nuclear waste in this pool, which could have corroded the assemblies. They could break apart; they could crumble when they go to try to remove them. Even the director of the nuclear regulation authority of Japan has warned that this process should not be rushed; they should not try to force these assemblies out of their storage channels. But they have to get them out before a bigger earthquake takes the building down, the cooling water would drain away, and the waste with them will catch on fire. There is no radiological containment around the pool and if this waste would catch fire it could be 10 times worse than Chernobyl. That’s how much radioactivity is stored in that pool. Just in terms of the radioactive cesium content. [...]  It’s absurd that Tokyo Electric is in charge of this globally significant extracting of the fuel from the pool. If something goes wrong, this could be a global catastrophe that dwarfs what has happened on Fukushima Daiichi thus far. Tokyo Electric has shown its true colors time and time again, its incompetence and its dishonesty, so it’s very frightening that Tokyo Electric is in charge of this.

There is an 8-Year-Old Girl With Lung Cancer, and China"s Smog is to Blame

there, is, an, 8-year-old, girl, with, lung, cancer,, and, china There is an 8-Year-Old Girl With Lung Cancer, and China’s Smog is to Blame Image Credit: AP

In the first case of its kind, an eight-year-old girl in China has become the youngest person in history to be diagnosed with lung cancer. Local doctors believe that China’s skyrocketing levels of air pollution are to blame. While rare, this case highlights the extreme degree to which China is undercutting its own economy and health with an outdated and inefficient growth model.

Every minute, there are six new cases of cancer in China, and every year there are two million related deaths a year. In 2010 alone, there were an estimated 1.2 million in premature deaths. These were largely due to air pollution, which is the largest environmental risk. Such loss of damage and cost to future economic activity is believed to have cost China $ 230 billion in 2010. Other examples of China’s pollution woes include a case from October of this year, when toxic smog forced the 11 million strong city of Harbin to shut down. The smog caused visibility to drop to ten meters, causing schools to cancel classes and airports to close. Such incidents are also alarming China’s neighbors as factories and power plants in China have caused increased acid rain to fall on Seoul and Tokyo.

Such telling statistics have been occasionally censored in certain official Chinese Communist Party (CCP) reports, since they could be damaging to the party’s reputation and growth strategy. China’s method of economic development is important because not only is it officially institutionalized, but also economic growth is what provides the legitimacy on which the CPP rests.

Over the last 30 years, the CCP’s shift from socialism to state capitalism has lifted over 500 million Chinese out of poverty. In the late 1980s, Deng Xiaoping created a new incentive system in which provincial and local officials are judged and promoted based on two criteria: continual economic growth in their jurisdiction and suppressing dissent. Central plans for economic growth and tight competition to be promoted resulted in local officials trying to outdo their peers’ growth in provincial and city GDPs.

In rural China, land is still collectivized and peasants lease the land and are without private property rights. Because of this, local official often seize their land for development, providing little compensation while selling the land at high rates to private or, more often, state-run companies.

These perverted incentives also cause officials to support or turn a blind eye to projects that are less energy or cost efficient, but boost short-term GDP and are quick to complete. Examples of this include little to no insulation in most new buildings and the use of long outdated turbine technology in power plants.

The result has been soaring economic growth fueled by an artificial stimulus of land and house prices without great concern for future growth, the environment, or local dissent. Real estate, housing, development, and their related industries now account for about a third of China’s economy and real concerns have emerged that the CCP’s political incentives are creating a housing bubble on the scale of America’s infamous 2008 one.

Putting this another way, imagine for a moment if American governors and mayors were judged over how much economic growth they could create and that they were given free use of imminent domain to achieve such growth. They could send the policy to seize as much land to give to Walmart or General Motors as they’d like and all they have to do was provide a meager penance as compensation. That is the source of China’s environmental and future economic woes; citizens have no legal recourse and politicians have no incentive to think in the long term.

China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection is also very weak. In fact, state owned companies block or ignore regulations on a regular basis. Also, half-hearted efforts by President Hu Jintao to include a into the evaluations of local officials has made no difference. Initially designed to take into account the cost of pollution, the measure was scrapped because of the many of the new growth calculations were close to zero in several provinces.

While environmental degradation as a side effect of the industrialization is the norm throughout history, and arguably nearly impossible to avoid, there is no comparison to China’s juggernaut. Never before has a state had economic growth and environmental problems on such a massive scale, and thus there is no previous case to go by. And so far, China has made some progress but the results are mixed and the long-term outcome uncertain.

On one hand, China has undertaken a $ 200 billion green and nuclear energy initiative and has begun experimenting with cap and trade as theoretical solutions in some special zones. Also despite how bad things are, most of China’s cities are “no more polluted than Japan’s were in 1960 … [and] air quality is improving at about the same rate as Japan’s did in the 1970s.”

Yet at the same time, many other parts of China’s environment are much worse, such as the Yellow River in the north, which serves 50% of all Chinese and irrigates 60% of all farmland, and is in grave overuse. Pollution has also caused almost 500 million Chinese to be without access to safe drinking water.

Thus, it is difficult to tell what lies in China’s environmental future and whether Beijing is unable or unwilling to change its top-down incentives for short-term growth despite the cost.

Either way, China’s top-heavy model of growth is due for an overhaul.

Republican Rep. Dale Kooyenga: “There are certain values that the state upholds. If the values aren’t consistent at the local level, there is an opportunity for the state to come in and say these are our principles and they are good.”

The conservative Wisconsin State Journal is again trying to alert fellow Republicans something is dangerously wrong at the Capitol. While Republicans vilified Madison for forcing liberalism on everyone else, ramming conservatism down our throats is A-Okay? Didn’t think so.

The line that stood out for me is this breathtaking rightwing authoritarian philosophical statement:

Rep. Dale Kooyenga, R-Brookfield: “There are certain values that the state upholds. If the values aren’t consistent at the local level, there is an opportunity for the state to come in and say these are our principles and they are good.”

Gulp! Sound frighteningly familiar? Sounds a lot like what we heard from so many despotic foreign leaders.

Reporter Matthew DeFour wrote this nice summary:

Since consolidating control of state government in 2011, Gov. Scott Walker and the Republican Legislature have enacted a series of laws that upend a bedrock of their party’s conservatism: the principle of local control. The GOP has wrested from local government’s control of cellphone tower siting, shoreland zoning restrictions, landlord-tenant regulations, public employee residency requirements, family medical leave rules for private companies and large soft drink bans, among other things. It instituted a statewide voucher program opposed by many school boards and has kept tight property tax caps on school districts and municipalities. The latest and perhaps most disconcerting example for many local officials is a bill introduced by Sen. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, that would limit a municipality’s ability to regulate certain aspects of frac sand mining operations, such as blasting, damage to highways, and air and water quality.

“Many (municipal leaders) will tell you how terrible it is and how it’s the worst they’ve ever seen,” said Dan Thompson, executive director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities.

But of course denial helps Republicans disconnect from their own hypocrisy:

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, said “legislators always take into account local feedback when developing bills,” including specific bill language. “The concerns of municipalities are carefully considered…

When Republicans are whining about there being too much local control, well…..

Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said other changes, such as ending residency requirements and the soft drink provision, are meant to protect individual freedoms, Evenson said.

Nice to know our state GOP is protecting our freedom to shop:

Republicans have long promoted themselves as the party of decentralized government and local control. UW-Madison political science professor emeritus Dennis Dresang. “But boy, recently, that’s really going out the door. What we see from the tea party types and the radical right types is, ‘I’ve got an idea, I’ve got an agenda, and it really ought to apply across the board.”

How do Republicans rationalize their authoritarian behavior?

Republicans … say many of the recent moves to limit local control derive from a different party plank than local control — deregulation.

If you want to know what the guiding philosophy of our rightwing authoritarian one party government is right now, Rep. Dale Kooyenga made it perfectly clear:

“There are certain values that the state upholds. If the values aren’t consistent at the local level, there is an opportunity for the state to come in and say these are our principles and they are good.”

“Rightwing Authoritarian” is a term defined in this recent blog post. Check it out.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. It’s called campaign cash

This piece originally appeared on BillMoyers.com.

If you want to see how grossly money can distort democracy, just go to the state of Virginia, where there are no limits on how big a check can be written for statewide office. Groups and individuals from outside the Old Dominion are taking full advantage, pouring millions into a governor’s race they see as a dry run for the tactics they’ll use in the 2014 midterms and the 2016 presidential race – sort of the way the Spanish civil war turned out to be a testing ground for many of the deadly weapons of World War II.

Billionaires like environmentalist Tom Steyer on the left and the Koch Brothers on the right are placing their bets, but as they say at the track, the horses they’re backing are just a couple of hay burners. Once the home of Washington and Jefferson, James Madison and Patrick Henry, Virginia now has a choice between two mediocrities slavishly devoted to their wealthy contributors.

The Democrat, Terry McAuliffe, has been in training for years as courtier to the rich. He has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for the Democratic National Committee, which he chaired for four years, and the campaigns of his Best Friends Forever — Bill and Hillary Clinton — who now are shaking down donors for him.  Along the way, according to The Washington Post, this gregarious bagman used government programs, his huge Rolodex of political connections, and wealthy investors from both parties to enrich himself. He organized a company to build electric cars and promoted it to investors with a prospectus featuring photographs and ample references to his Clinton ties. He even got the former President to show up at the opening of the plant in Mississippi, along with that state’s former Republican governor, Haley Barbour, who made his fortune as a lobbyist in Washington for the tobacco industry.

Strange bedfellows, these crony capitalists – you may remember that Hillary Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham was involved, too, searching out foreign investors for the electric cars. When the spotlight of scrutiny crossed their path, McAuliffe resigned from the company, which is now under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The Washington Post also reports that one of McAuliffe’s top twenty donors – at $ 120,000 — is the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry, which issues flags of convenience to shipping companies that want to dodge taxes and labor regulations, and that McAuliffe invested in an alleged insurance scam that stole identities from the terminally ill. His campaign says that like other investors, McAuliffe was deceived. The fellow in charge of the scheme donated more than $ 25,000 the last time McAuliffe ran for governor, in 2009. Hmmm…

In a recent debate, his Republican opponent, state attorney general and right wing zealot Ken Cuccinelli, said that if McAuliffe’s elected, they’ll have to change the state’s motto from “Sic Semper Tyrannis” to “Quid Pro Quo.” That’s Latin for you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.

But Cuccinelli is in no position to talk. The candidate was drawn into that Virginia money scandal in which Jonnie R. Williams, Sr., CEO of Star Scientific, a company that manufactures dietary supplements, showered lavish presents and perks on the current governor and his wife. Cuccinelli also received a sprinkling of Williams’ largesse. He recently donated the value of what he says he got — $ 18,000 – to charity.

What’s more, his donor list includes considerable checks from big tobacco and big coal, including Murray Energy Corporation, which has often been fined for endangering the health and safety of its miners. Last year, its boss, Bob Murray, was discovered insisting that employees contribute time and money to his favorite anti-regulatory candidates – including Mitt Romney – or else.

Now Cuccinelli’s touting a major tax cut for the rich, with a plan that, according to the liberal Center for American Progress, would give 47% of a proposed tax reduction to the top five percent of Virginians. The state would lose nearly a billion and a half dollars in revenues so the rich can be even richer.

Not surprising, Cuccinelli’s a major climate change denier, as well as a fractious opponent of Obamacare, a woman’s right to choose and gay marriage. He once wanted to make it legal for employers to fire an employee if they were heard speaking Spanish. No wonder he’s the favorite of Citizens United – yes, that Citizens United, the right wing group that got the conservatives on the Supreme Court to give corporations the same free speech rights as real people.

So come Election Day, pity the voters of Virginia. Whether they choose the glad-handing Democrat or the self-righteous Republican, once again, the real winner will be Big Money.
