Al-Qaeda calls to its Syrian affiliate to fight Assad only remained unanswered - expert

Hello, Sir. Thank you for joining us. First of all, why al-Qaeda decide to publicly announce the break just to feel exposed or is there any other reason behind this statement for the Western press? What is your impression?

Well, animosity has been growing between the al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria, known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS and other rebel groups, and that has fueled deadly infighting. That has also harmed the movement against President Assad, the infighting has trapped their ability to launch an effective campaign against the Syrian regime. Now al-Qaeda Central lead by Ayman al-Zawahiri has spoken in the past of the fact that the al-Qaeda affiliate needs to focus its aims more against the Assad regime rather than fight other Syrian rebel groups. And the fact is that those calls have fallen unanswered which is party why now Al-Qaeda Central is taken this move against its affiliate.

Now, in related issue, many say al-Qaeda is gradually loosing its control over the territory mid arising in fighting in Syria? Is that really so?

The main area of concern internationally has been that the al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria have been very actively engaging in recruiting British, German and French nationals to fight for their cause. And that has been of major concern for Western governments because of the potential blowback where their citizens could become radicalized ideologically as well as be equipped militarily. And with those skills they would return home, to their countries of origin, and in a position to plot and plan deadly mass casualty attacks, very similar to what we saw in the aftermath of 9/11 right up till 2006, where British nationals were trained in Pakistan by al-Qaeda and then come home to plan major mass casualty plot. Al-Qaeda’s ability to recruit in Syria has not diminished or shown any sign of weakening, it actually has been quite consistently active and that itself is another concern.

Now, Sir, let’s talk a little bit about ISIL. Initially, ISIL was the al-Qaeda branch in Iraq. Then why did it expand its operations into Syria. What is it fighting there for? What are their interests in Syria?

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been a group that grew in the aftermath of the US led operations in Iraq from 2003, led by individuals like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi although he was killed, the group itself still conducted a number of attacks against the US soldiers as well as carrying the attacks against Iraqis but most importantly developing sectarian conflict inside Iraq itself. It was inevitable once the battle against the Assad regime began, that those elements in Iraq would align themselves with individuals of a similar ideological lining in Syria. Iraq and Syria are very closely intertwined in many ways. At one point both countries had Ba’ath Party president. There is often been people transferring from either country for jobs or economic reasons. Historically, the connections between Syria and Iraq are very strong. So it was inevitable that even that terrorists and extremists would use e connections to align themselves. It illustrates the fact that the al-Qaeda franchise continue to expand and to proliferate and the group itself is very much following the same ideological pattern as other al-Qaeda factions, which is to create an Islamic state based on Sharia law opposed to manmade laws, opposed to any type of form of democracy, a very stringent rigid doctrine.

US Nabs al-Qaeda Honcho in Libya Raid

(AP) – US special forces captured a Libyan al-Qaeda leader linked to the 1998 bombings of two American embassies in Africa, seizing him outside his Tripoli home and whisking him out the country. A Navy SEAL team that swam ashore hours earlier in Somalia engaged in a fierce firefight but failed to apprehend a terrorist suspected in the recent Kenyan mall siege. “We hope that this makes clear that the United States of America will never stop in the effort to hold those accountable who conduct acts of terror,” Secretary of State John Kerry said today from Indonesia. “Members of al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations literally can run but they can’t hide.”

The Pentagon identified the al-Qaeda leader captured yesterday as Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, known by his alias Abu Anas al-Libi. He has been on the FBI’s most wanted terrorists list, for his role in the 1998 US embassy bombings, since it was introduced shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. There was a $ 5 million bounty on his head. A Pentagon statement said the suspect is “lawfully detained under the law of war in a secure location outside of Libya.” A senior US military official said the Tripoli raid was carried out by the US Army’s Delta Force. Libya asked the United States today for “clarifications” regarding the raid and said any Libyan should face trial in his own country.

Assad: “West Is More Confident in Al-Qaeda than Me”

RIA Novosti
October 6, 2013

In an interview with a German magazine, Syrian President Bashar Assad has accused the West of lies about the use of chemical weapons in Syria and said Russia understands the reality of the conflict in his country “much better,” than the United States.

“We did not use chemical weapons,” Assad said in an advance version of an interview with Der Spiegel to be published on Monday. “This is a misstatement. So is the picture you paint of me as a man who kills his own people.”

The Syrian leader criticized the international community: “It seems to me that the West is more confident in al-Qaida than me,” he said.

CIA-Linked Vet Who Fought With Al-Qaeda Released From Jail

Eric Harroun gets “sweet plea deal” despite supporting terrorists who killed US troops

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
September 23, 2013

Any Army veteran whose father said he was working for the CIA has been released from jail despite fighting alongside an Al-Qaeda terrorist group in Syria that was responsible for killing US troops in Iraq.

31-year-old Eric Harroun has received what has been described as a “sweet plea deal” after he faced life in prison for providing material support to a terrorist organization by fighting with Jabhat Al-Nusra, the group that the New York Times reported, “killed numerous American troops in Iraq,” and is now the leading front line fighting force in Syria.

Al-Nusra is led by Ayman al-Zawahri, the head of Al-Qaeda who recently called for terror attacks inside the United States.

“Under a deal entered in federal court in Alexandria, Harroun pleaded guilty to an obscure law regulating munition exports. He was sentenced to time served. The plea agreement itself remains sealed, though court records show it was entered Thursday,” reports the Associated Press.

Harroun, who has been in prison since March, was released on 3 years probation with a paltry $ 100 fine.

Despite claiming to have shot at least 10 people and “fighting alongside jihadists and America-hating terrorists while celebrating his bloody exploits on YouTube videos,” Harroun is now a free man. A video uploaded to YouTube earlier this year shows Harroun celebrating the downing of a Syrian Army helicopter while his fellow militants shout “Allahu Akbar”.

Absent from media reports about Harroun’s release is the fact that his father told CBS 5 earlier this year that Harroun was working for the CIA in Syria.

“I know he was doing some work for the CIA over there….I know for a fact that he was passing information onto the CIA,” Darryl Harroun told reporters.

While individuals merely accused of being terrorists are thrown into prison camps like Guantanamo Bay for years and prevented from having a trial, Harroun has got off with a slap on the wrist despite evidence clearly indicating that he fought alongside terrorists in Syria.

American citizen Anwar Al-Awlaki was killed by a drone strike simply for producing propaganda videos and communicating with accused terrorists. His 16-year-old son was similarly slaughtered for merely sharing his father’s surname. Other American citizens like John Walker Lindh were imprisoned and tortured in Guantanamo Bay for fighting with the Taliban.

The difference is that Harroun was apparently working alongside Al-Nusra at the behest of the CIA, supporting terrorists whom the Obama administration is now backing in its bid to topple Bashar Al-Assad.

Why did the CIA let a crazed al-Qaeda mob kill America’s ambassador?

Tony Rennell
dailymail.co.uk
September 15, 2013

Fumbling in the dark, the American ambassador hurriedly pulled on bullet-proof body armour over his blue trousers and T-shirt. A shrill warning siren was sounding and the crash of gunshots could be heard, getting closer by the second.

‘Follow me, sir,’ urged a diplomatic bodyguard, gripping his M4 assault rifle, shouldering an additional pump-action shotgun and looking anxiously around him as they set out along blacked-out corridors. ‘We are under attack.’

It was 9.40pm in the United States diplomatic mission in Benghazi, the second city of strife-torn Libya, a country trying to re-build itself in the aftermath of civil war and the ousting and killing of its mad dictator, Colonel Gaddafi.

12 Years After 9/11, Obama Helps ‘Revive’ Al-Qaeda in Syria

Report warns ‘Syrian rebels’ could launch chemical attacks against the west

12 Years After 9/11, Obama Helps Revive Al Qaeda in Syria 110913obama

12 years after 9/11, a Bipartisan Policy Center report warns that Al-Qaeda’s presence in Syria is enabling the terror group to undergo a process of “revival and resuscitation” which could lead to chemical weapons attacks against the west.

The report is produced by the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Homeland Security Project and is entitled Jihadist Terrorism: A Threat Assessment.

Despite one of the report’s authors Peter Bergen telling a press conference that “Al Qaeda central is basically on life support,” the report notes that the civil war in Syria is providing the terror organization with a new “foothold” and a “chance to regroup, train, and plan operations,” enabling their “revival and resuscitation.”

The Obama administration’s insistence that the United States intervene militarily on the side of Syrian rebels, who are being led by Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, which the report states is the “most effective fighting force in Syria,” has led to charges by the likes of Senator Ted Cruz that the White House is acting as “Al-Qaeda’s Air Force.”

The BPC report also warns that chemical weapons falling into the hands of jihadists in Syria could subsequently be used against the west.

“Potential jihadi access to the vast stockpile of chemical weapons assembled by the Assad regime and scattered across Syria is a potential game-changer though—not only because they could be used there, but because they could be smuggled out of the country as well,” states the report.

The report highlights how Jabhat al-Nusra is under the control of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who “personally intervened to settle a dispute between Jabhat al-Nusra and al-Qaeda in Iraq….and declared the Syrian group to be under his direction.”

The group’s presence in Syria could create a “long-term safe haven” located “in the heart of the Arab world and next door to Israel,” leading to, “an organization with the intention and capability to attack the West. It could also be the success al-Qaeda needs to revive itself,” states the report, adding that a foothold in Syria could serve as “a launching pad for attacks against” Europe and Israel.

The White House’s sustained financial and potential military support for rebels who are fighting alongside Al-Qaeda militants who have been responsible for a plethora of atrocities in Syria is one of the primary reasons why the majority of the American people, along with most members of Congress, do not support the Obama administration’s plan for military intervention.

These same militants, have repeatedly voiced their hatred for and intention to destroy America, as they ransack Christian churches, burn US flags, chant anti-American slogans and sing the praises of Osama Bin Laden while glorifying the 9/11 attacks.

As the New York Times reported, these very same terrorists killed U.S. troops in Iraq and yet western backing for the insurgency against Bashar Al-Assad has greased the skids for violent extremists to potentially seize power in Syria.

It is disturbingly ironic that on the 12th anniversary of 9/11, the White House is now on the same side as the terrorist organization charged with carrying out the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon which killed nearly 3,000 Americans.

Watch a video below in which Syrian rebels praise Osama Bin Laden while glorifying the 9/11 attacks.

Al-Qaeda fights back against drones

Rob Crilly
telegraph.co.uk
September 4, 2013

American drone strikes are believed to have killed at least 3000 people in the past 10 years and cut a swath through the senior ranks of militant groups along the Afghan border with Pakistan.

Documents leaked by Edward Snowden, the fugitive former intelligence contractor, and given to The Washington Post show the lengths al-Qaeda has gone to in order to counter the deadly drones.

In July 2010, a US spy agency intercepted communications suggesting senior al-Qaeda leaders had sent a guide to operatives around the world advising on how to “anticipate and defeat” unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

(Al-Qaeda Led) Syrian rebels plan raids to exploit Western strikes

August 31, 2013

(Reuters) – Opposition fighters across Syria are preparing to launch attacks that exploit anticipated U.S.-led military strikes, but there are no plans to coordinate with Western forces, a Syrian rebel commander said on Saturday.

Qassim Saadeddine, a former Syrian army colonel and spokesman for the rebels’ Supreme Military Council, said the council had sent a selection of rebel groups a military plan of action to use if strikes took place.

“The hope is to take advantage when some areas are weakened by any strikes. We ordered some groups to prepare in each province, to ready their fighters for when the strike happens,” he told Reuters, speaking by Skype.

“They were sent a military plan that includes preparations to attack some of the targets we expect to be hit in foreign strikes, and some others that we hope to attack at the same time.”

Sen. Graham: Benghazi Represented Al-Qaeda On Steroids

Infowars.com
August 4, 2013

Talking with CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning host Candy Crowley, Senator Lindsey Graham said “these al Qaeda types are really on steroids thinking we’re weaker and they’re stronger” after the Benghazi attack.

Graham’s remarks are at odds with a number of reports indicating al-Qaeda is a shadow of its former self.

“If we look carefully and objectively at the evolution of the al Qaeda brand over the past 12 years, what is clear is a pattern of al Qaeda (or some quasi-organized group acting in its name) pushing into a vacuum, overplaying its hand, and retreating back into the bush when it meets resistance,” RAND reported in February after the Benghazi attack. “In Iraq, in Yemen, in Somalia, and now in Algeria, al Qaeda wannabes and copycats, even those truly committed to bin Laden’s global jihad, have repeatedly made the same mistakes and have sown the seeds of their own eventual destruction.”

Many people believe, however, at the risk of being chalked up as conspiracy theorists, that al-Qaeda in fact does not exist as an organization or a threat.

The former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook told the House of Commons before his death that “al-Qaeda” is not a terrorist organization but a database of international mujaheddin and arms smugglers used by the CIA and Saudis to send guerrillas, arms, and money into Soviet-occupied Afghanistan.

“The terrorist group al-Qaeda in fact does not exist,” writes Mark Perkel. “It was made up in January of 2001 in order to prosecute Osama bin Laden in his absence. In order to prosecute bin Laden there had to be an organization like the Mafia for which he was a part of. Under the law if such an organization exists then the head of the organization can be prosecuted under the law. So in order to bring the prosecution they made up the organization and called it al-Qaeda. But the organization is fiction. It doesn’t exist. It’s all a huge fraud.”

This was convincingly demonstrated in the BBC documentary, The Power of Nightmares.

“The idea which is critical to the FBI’s prosecution that bin Laden ran a coherent organization with operatives and cells all around the world of which you could be a member is a myth,” said Power of Nightmares contributor Jason Burke. “There is no Al Qaeda organization. There is no international network with a leader, with cadres who will unquestioningly obey orders, with tentacles that stretch out to sleeper cells in America, in Africa, in Europe. That idea of a coherent, structured terrorist network with an organized capability simply does not exist.”

“Al Qaeda is not an organization. Al Qaeda is a way of working,” declared British Metropolitan Police Commissioner Ian Blair.

It is also, for Lindsey Graham and his sidekick, Arizona Senator John McCain, a way to periodically remind the American people that there is a war on terror in progress — and there will be for generations to come if they have anything to say about it.
