Award winning Project Censored:The Movie takes an in depth look at what is wrong with the news media in the US today. It highlights the work of 37-year veteran media democracy organization Project Censored (PC) and its commitment to media literacy education as an antidote to propaganda and censorship. This film, made by Christopher Oscar and former PC student Doug Hecker, features original interviews about PC and media censorship with Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Michael Parenti, Greg Palast, Oliver Stone, Daniel Ellsberg, Peter Kuznick, Cynthia McKinney, Nora Barrows-Friedman, John Perkins, Khalil Bendib, Pacifica and KPFA Free Speech Radio personalities, Abby Martin of Russia Today, Al Jazeera English clips covering PC, and PC affiliated faculty and students. It also features Project founder Carl Jensen, former director and president of the Media Freedom Foundation Dr. Peter Phillips, current director Prof. Mickey Huff and associate director Dr. Andy Lee Roth.

The White House Hosts Its First-Ever Student Film Festival

Back in November, we asked K-12 students across the country to create short films on the role that technology plays in their classrooms. We asked them to tell us why technology is so important, and how it will change the educational experience for kids in the future.

And they responded with nearly 3,000 films.

Today, in collaboration with the American Film Institute, we hosted more than a dozen of the young filmmakers at the first-ever White House Student Film Festival, where we presented our 16 official selections. Special guests included Kal Penn, Bill Nye, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, along with Conan O’Brien who addressed the students by video.

To kick things off, President Obama addressed the attendees and told the young filmmakers how great their movies were:

[I]n my official capacity as President, let me just say these movies are awesome. Like all great movies, yours do something special — they tell a story. They help us understand, in this case, the amazing things that are going on in classrooms and how technology is empowering our students and broadening their imaginations and challenging them to dream bigger and reach further.

The President also talked briefly about his ConnectED initiative, which aims to connect 99 percent of America’s students to next-generation, high-speed Internet over the next five years. He announced $ 400 million in new commitments from Adobe and Prezi to make free software available to teachers and students, helping introduce creative learning materials to America’s classrooms. Coupled with the $ 750 million in commitments that the President announced earlier this month, private-sector leaders have pledged – in February alone – to invest more than $ 1 billion in America’s students.

According to an email invitation sent out by the Writers Guild East and obtained by Breitbart News, members of the Hollywood elite and the Obama Administration will be gathering in the middle of next month for a panel titled, “The Affordable Care Act: Comedy, Drama & Reality – Portraying ObamaCare in TV & Film.” Julie Green Bataille, a director at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will represent the Obama administration.

The left-wing Norman Lear Center is co-sponsoring the event.

Two powerful left-wing Hollywood organizations combining with the federal government’s powerful CMS is not something to be taken lightly.

Police Tell Reporters That They Cannot Film Wastewater Plant From Public Street

In a gross attack on the First Amendment, a police officer told Infowars reporters and crew that they could not film a wastewater plant from across a public street.

The officer said that he had the “authority” to stop them from filming even though he admitted that it was not illegal to film the facility.

“There’s no law, but like I said, based on the fact that it is a critical site, your activity is being deemed suspicious so we have the authority,” he said.

This is a perfect example of how police officers routinely use the “color of law” to deprive journalists of their First Amendment right to publicly film and cover news stories.

They use their “authority” to intimate reporters even though that authority runs contrary to basic human rights and the law.

The right to film in public has been affirmed time and time again by the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal Appeals Courts, which have all ruled that everyone – not just journalists – has an individual right to film (video, audio, photography, etc.) in public because there is “no expectation of privacy” in a public place.

In 2011, the U.S. 1st Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unambiguously that the First Amendment recognizes this right.

“It is firmly established that the First Amendment’s aegis extends further than the text’s proscription on laws ‘abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press,’ and encompasses a range of conduct related to the gathering and dissemination of information,” Circuit Judge Kermit Lipez wrote in the court’s opinion.

Additionally, in 2012 the U.S. Supreme Court agreed with a lower court ruling that a Illinois law which prevented citizens from filming police was unconstitutional.

Zombie Film Triggers "Axe Attack" 999 Call

An emergency call to a bloody axe attack sent police racing to the scene only to discover it was a group of budding young film-makers shooting a zombie movie.

The mix-up in Harrogate was revealed by North Yorkshire Police on Twitter.

Officers had been responding to a report in the town of teenagers armed with an axe, and a victim lying bloodied on the floor.

It will have been with some relief when they arrived to find it was a harmless ‘undead’ film shoot, involving the use of fake blood.

The force tweeted: “999 call reporting an axe attack in #Harrogate. Several officers at scene. Turns out 4 youths making a zombie film using fake blood.”

It prompted a number of jokes from other Twitter users.

Responding with good humour, the control room team tweeted: “It could have had #Grave consequences though! Glad it was a call with good intent.”
