Oh, Sen. Lindsey Graham. If you didn’t exist we’d have to make you up.

It started with Benghazi. When you kill Americans and nobody pays a price, you invite this type of aggression. #Ukraine

Americans still think there’s more to learn about Benghazi – and want Congress to keep searching for the truth

Benghazi embassy post-attack

Americans across the political spectrum aren’t entirely convinced that the truth aboutthe Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya has been fully uncovered, and think Congress should continue investigating the matter to find out whether the White House acted improperly during its handling of the attack, a Fox News poll released Friday reported.

The poll found that two in three Americans – including 50 percent of Democrats – believe that Congress should continue to investigate the White House’s role in managing the attack, which resulted in the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Just 31 percent of Americans think Congress should move on from its Benghazi investigations.

House Republicans, led by Government and Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), have ferociously led the charge to continue the investigation, even going so far as to set up a website earlier this month that promises to bring the facts about the assault “straight to the American people.”

“The families of the fallen – and the American people – deserve to know the truth. They deserve justice,” a release issued by House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) said. “After being stonewalled, House committees began a serious, exhaustive, and deliberate investigation into what led up to this tragic event, what transpired, and why the White House refused – and still refuses – to tell the whole truth.”

Benghazi will also be a key issue in the 2016 presidential race, as presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s political future hangs on the balance of any potential investigation. Clinton was serving as Secretary of State for President Barack Obama at the time of the attack, and recently acknowledged in a speech before the National Automotive Dealers Association that her role in the scandal is her biggest political regret.

“My biggest, you know, regret is what happened in Benghazi,” she said. “It was a terrible tragedy, losing four Americans, two diplomats and, now it’s public, so I can say two CIA operatives.”

At the same time, many in the mainstream media continue to doubt that there is any controversy surrounding the attack at Benghazi – especially when compared to real scandals like “Bridgegate.” HBO talk show host Bill Maher asserted on his show Friday evening that Benghazi isn’t a scandal at all, as he tried to convince MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow that her network might want to dial back its coverage of “Bridgegate” before the issue becomes its “Benghazi.”

Addressing a ‘break-up letter’ he penned to the liberal cable news network on Valentine’s Day, Maher said, ”I should have said that… yes, [Bridgegate] is not the same as Benghazi. I made that analogy, but I said this is your ‘Benghazi’. Benghazi is a real – Benghazi is nothing – there is no scandal there. This [Bridgegate] is an actual scandal.”

Fox News surveyed 1,006 registered voters nationwide via telephone from Feb. 9-11, 2014. The study has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

House report on Benghazi attack faults White House for security lapses

Fox News
February 11, 2014

White House officials either failed to comprehend the situation in Benghazi or ignored the dramatically deteriorating security there while preparing for the September 11th anniversary, according to a new report set to be released by the House Armed Services Committee Tuesday.

Some of the biggest concerns yielded from the report center around why the Obama administration chose to allocate security resources in parts of the region and not in others following a series of assessment reviews led by then-Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan, senior aides familiar with the report told Fox News.

“The report details an example of changes that were made in our foreign posture in response to the perceived threat in Yemen and compares and contrasts that to the situation on the ground in Libya,” one senior aide said. “While we identify that discrepancy, we are not fully able to get at why some of those decisions may have been made within the National Security Council or the White House.”

Hillary Clinton mum on presidency, says Benghazi her biggest regret

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) – Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remained vague on Monday about whether she would run for president in 2016 and said the militant attack in Benghazi, Libya, was the biggest regret of her four years as the top U.S. diplomat.

Before a large crowd of politically active car dealers, the overwhelming favorite among Democratic presidential contenders discussed her signal accomplishments, notably a recommendation that U.S. commandos go into Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden, and her regrets.

“My biggest regret is what happened in Benghazi,” she said during a question-and-answer session after her keynote speech at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in a packed, 4,000-seat room.

Four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed when militants attacked the lightly protected U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi and a better-fortified CIA base nearby on the night of September 11, 2012.

The attack became a political flashpoint in the run-up to the 2012 election, with Republicans arguing that President Barack Obama tried to play down its significance as he campaigned for a second term. Republicans are sure to make it an issue if Clinton runs in 2016.

The selection of Clinton as the speaker at the three-day NADA conference, attended by more than 22,000 dealers, met vocal opposition. NADA, which declined to say how much she was paid for her appearance, said she was selected because she offered an important perspective.

Dealers are a politically active group and tend to be conservative. They gave more than $ 16 million to political campaigns in 2012, 85 percent to Republicans, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

“Mrs. Clinton is a polarizing figure but that’s OK,” David Shepard, a NADA director and a dealer in Fort Scott, Kansas, said. He added that the selection was not a NADA endorsement of Clinton as a possible presidential candidate.

STRONG TIES TO INDUSTRY

Clinton peppered her speech with anecdotes about the Clinton family’s strong ties to the dealer industry – although she herself has not driven since 1996.

She was introduced by Arkansas dealer and NADA director Jack Caldwell, who went to elementary school with former President Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton’s father and uncle were Buick dealers, she said. She also joked about her first two cars, including the yellow Fiat she had while teaching at the University of Arkansas that was eventually stolen.

She also highlighted the American auto industry’s importance in establishing the U.S. presence around the world. She singled out a General Motors engine plant in Uzbekistan, which gave the United States an edge in a area where it is competing for influence with China, she said.

“She has a pretty good understanding about what we do, especially in business,” said Chris Daggs, a Ford Motor Co dealer in Crestview, Florida. “I’ve always felt she was someone more in our corner as a dealer.”

The last time the conference was held in New Orleans was in 2009, just before the federal bailout of General Motors and Chrysler Group LLC, which Clinton supported, that helped save the two companies and dealers nationwide.

As expected, Clinton remained vague about whether or not she would run for president in 2016. But she applauded General Motors’ selection of Mary Barra as its top executive – the first time a woman has ever run a major car company.

“We have a lot of women in the corporate pipeline who have been working in their industries for a long time and are finally in a position where I think they could be given the opportunity for leadership like Mary Barra,” she said.

Gingrich on Hillary & Benghazi: "We"re Never Going To Beat Her On Nitpicking Smaller Issues"

NEWT GINGRICH: I think any Republican strategy which tries to nibble at Hillary Clinton is hopeless. I mean, she has been in public life for 40 years. She was named the government field person in 1972. I mean, the idea that suddenly we’re going to learn something new about Hillary Clinton.

ANDREA MITCHELL: She was on the Nixon Impeachment Committee staff.

NEWT GINGRICH: In fact, she’s a lot like Nixon in her capacity to survive forever. So, she’s a fact. She gets beaten. She’s going to get beaten because Obamacare keeps dictating. She’s going to get beaten because we’re losing the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

She’s going to get beaten because there are big decisions and she’s caught between loyalty to a president whose base is still loyal and the country. Now, if that happens, she’ll lose. But we’re never going to beat her on nitpicking smaller issues.

Bombshell bipartisan Senate report: Benghazi was preventable

A bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report on Benghazi has just been released, and it is worse news for Hillary Clinton than Bridgegate is for Chris Christie. Adam Goldman and Anne Gearan of the Washington Post report:

The bipartisan report lays out more than a dozen findings regarding the assaults on Sept. 11 and 12, 2012 on the diplomatic compound and a CIA annex in the Libyan city of Benghazi. It says the State Department failed to increase security at the sites despite warnings, and faults intelligence agencies for not sharing information about the existence of the CIA outpost with the U.S. military.

The committee determined that the U.S. military command in Africa didn’t know about the CIA annex and didn’t have the resources to defend the diplomatic compound in an emergency. (snip)

The report also notes, chillingly, that the FBI’s investigation into the attacks has been hampered inside Libya, and that 15 people “supporting the investigation or otherwise helpful to the United States” have since been killed in Benghazi. The report says it is unclear whether those killings were related to the investigation. (snip)

The report says it was problematic that the CIA and State Department were not working out of the same facility together in the dangerous Benghazi environment. That meant the CIA and its well-trained contractors, who had served in elite U.S. forces, were not on location at the diplomatic outpost in case of a crisis.

There is a lot more that is going to come out. Senator Chambliss is speaking to Fox News, and we are promised further revelations. The State Department was repeatedly warned of 9/11 danger, and disregarded it. There were terrorist training bases affiliated with Al Qaeda established in Benghazi, according to a report by Catherine Herridge. And as already reported, wihin minutes, the Whitre House knew it was a terror attack, not a spontaneous demonstration.

Big Fur Hat has created a startling graphic that deserves to be plastered on bumpers, light poles, fences, and elsewhere visible all over the country.

Conservatives slam Benghazi report

Louie Gohmert says too many questions remain to produce a comprehensie report.

Conservative critics on Wednesday slammed the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee’s Benghazi report, which called the attacks on the U.S. consulate there preventable.

“There is never a shortage of bipartisanship when we don’t have all the facts,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) charged of the report.

Gohmert — one of the most critical voices in wake of the September 2012 attacks on the U.S. consulate that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens — said there are too many unanswered questions for the committee to have produced a comprehensive report.

“Once we get all of that information, once this administration stops keeping the roadblock up to the truth, then you’ll see a bipartisan report that gives you real facts and not opinions,” he said.

The report concluded that the attacks could have been prevented if more attention was paid to intelligence warnings. But it disputed allegations that military assets that could have saved lives were not mobilized and that talking points used after the attacks were changed for political reasons.

Gohmert pointed to an allegation that has failed to get much traction beyond conservative circles: that the CIA was secretly gathering guns that had been given to fighters in Libya in order to distribute them to rebels in Syria.

“The unanswered questions of was this administration trying to rescue weapons in Libya that this administration had provided to rebels and were there American assets in Libya who were reviewing sites to store such weapons to be sent to Syria?” Gohmert said. “Until those questions are answered, we will not have a definitive report.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) called attention to the report’s findings that the intelligence community was aware of the threat beforehand but did little to improve security at the site.

“The administration looks very flatfooted and certainly inept and incompetent when it came to Benghazi,” Bachmann said.

She criticized former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has been a conservative target in the charge that the administration covered up key facts about the controversy.

“Why did Clinton fail in her job as the head of the State Department to safely protect the people in Benghazi when they knew it was a problem?” Bachmann said. “Today more than ever Benghazi stands as the symbol of incompetency of the Obama administration. It’s a high hurdle Clinton has to overcome in the future.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) disputed the report’s finding that military assets weren’t available and in close enough proximity to save lives during the attack.

“That flies in the face of what we uncovered in the [House] Oversight Committee,” Massie said.

Massie said while the military assets would not have arrived in time, teams based in Washington D.C. were told to stand down before the attack was over and it was known they couldn’t arrive in time.

“I hope the report takes into account all the facts we’ve uncovered in the Oversight Committee,” Massie said.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) also disputed the report’s findings that the controversial talking points then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice used on Sunday morning news programs were the product of incomplete intelligence reports.

King said the administration knew the attack wasn’t the product of a protest in response to an anti-Islam video.

King said the administration briefed Congress in a classified setting days after the attack, and while he didn’t disclose what was said in the briefing, “They told us the same lies that they told America on Sunday TV.”

(AP) — The Senate Intelligence Committee released a report on the deadly assault on the diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, Wednesday, laying blame on the State Department, the intelligence community — even the late Ambassador Chris Stevens — for failing to communicate and heed warnings of terrorist activity in the area.

The highly critical report also says the U.S. military was not positioned to aid the Americans in need, though the head of Africa Command had offered military security teams that Stevens — who was killed in the attack — had rejected weeks before the attack.

It also said that in the aftermath of the attacks, U.S. analysts confused policymakers by blaming the violence on protests without enough supporting intelligence.

The 2012 Benghazi attacks have dogged the Obama administration, because then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice initially blamed the violence on mob protests over an anti-Islamic film. Al-Qaida-linked militant groups were later blamed for the attacks, first when militants overran the temporary U.S. mission on Sept. 11, 2012, and later that same night, when militants fired mortars at the nearby CIA annex where the Americans had taken shelter.

The bipartisan report may settle what has become a running political battle between Republicans, mostly in the House, who say the Obama administration has been covering up what they consider misdeed before, during and after the attack, and the administration, which says Republicans are on a political witch hunt.

Committee chairman Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, says she hopes this will put to rest conspiracy theories about the militant attacks that night. Republican vice chairman Saxby Chambliss of Georgia said the report shows despite a deteriorating security situation in Benghazi, the U.S. government did not do enough to prevent the attacks or to protect the diplomatic facility.

“The State Department should have increased its security posture more significantly in Benghazi based on the deteriorating security situation on the ground and IC threat reporting on the prior attacks against Westerners in Benghazi_including two previous incidents” at the temporary diplomatic facility that year, a summary of the report states.

The State Department said Wednesday that there have been dozens of reports, hearings and briefings on the Benghazi attack and that many of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence’s findings are similar to those made by the independent Benghazi Accountability Review Board, which issued a report in December 2012.

The Senate report does note that the State Department has created a new assistant secretary position for high threat posts to focus on such dangerous areas, but says the department should in the future react more quickly to security threats and only in rare instances use facilities that are inadequately protected. It said State should not rely on local security alone in countries where the host government cannot provide adequate protection.

The report notes that the State Department in 2012 had ignored its own “tripwires” set to determine when it had become too dangerous to operate in Benghazi, and continued to operate the facility there, despite a steady drumbeat of U.S. intelligence reports showing the danger was rising.

The report faults the military for being unable to help when needed. “No U.S. military resources in position to intervene in short order in Benghazi to help defend” the U.S. facilities in Benghazi, it said.

Yet it points out that Stevens had rejected additional security. The Defense Department had provided a Site Security Team in Tripoli, made up of 16 special operations personnel to provide security and other help. The State Department, according to the report, decided not to extend the team’s mission in August 2012, one month before the attack. In the weeks that followed, Gen. Carter Ham, the head of Africa Command, twice asked Stevens to employ the team, and twice Stevens declined, the report said.

The report also dives into the contentious talking points issued by the intelligence community after the attacks that helped fuel Republican allegations of an Obama administration cover-up of militant links to the violence.

“Intelligence analysts inaccurately referred to the presence of a protest at the U.S. mission facility before the attack based on open source information and limited intelligence, but without sufficient intelligence or eyewitness statements to corroborate that assertion,” the report said, adding that the U.S. intelligence community then took too long to correct their error, “which caused confusion and influenced the public statements of policymakers.”

It also says the intelligence community should expand its mining of social media to watch for unrest, and also draw more heavily on eyewitness reporting “especially from U.S. government personnel_in the aftermath of a crisis.”

The senators also take the administration to task for failing to bring the attackers to justice more than a year after the Benghazi attacks.

It says U.S. intelligence has identified several individuals responsible, but can’t track them down because of limited intelligence capabilities in the region.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the committee report “largely reaffirms” the earlier findings from an independent panel. He said a number of the committee’s security recommendations are also consistent with steps the State Department has already taken.

“This reinforces what other investigations have found, which is that there was not enough security to protect the four Americans who lost their lives,” Carney told reporters traveling with Obama Tuesday to North Carolina.

Krauthammer: Benghazi "Won"t Even Be An Issue" For Hillary In 2016 Nomination Fight

SHANNON BREAM: Charles, do you think that Benghazi will factor in at all — in the primary or the general should Hillary Clinton be the Democratic nominee?

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: It won’t in the primary. It won’t even be an issue. I think the status she enjoys among Democrats is semi-divine. It’s not going to be a coronation. It’s going to be a worship service. And it will go on for about six or eight months. I don’t think there is any serious challenger. There might be noise, but I don’t even think that the left that we’ve talked about is that the significant. It’s a noisy left. But, I don’t see any impediment on the way to her nomination. But I think she is going to be rather weak if she decides to run, which I think she likely is. She will be a relatively weak opponent. And Republicans, I think, are going to have a really good shot at the White House.

The US is offering $ 10 million dollars as bounty for any info on the attack at its diplomatic post in Libyan Benghazi in 2012. It comes a few months after a Libyan warlord, jihadist leader and former Gitmo prisoner was recaptured as the main suspect.

The US State Department confirmed the reward in a letter to a Republican lawmaker who had enquired about it.

The reward is available for those coming forward with data that leads to the arrest or conviction of any individual involved in the attack. It’s not clear yet if any money has been paid out.

The announcement hasn’t been published on the Rewards of Justice website due to security concerns, the department said.

“Due to security issues and sensitivities surrounding the investigation, the event-specific reward offer has not been publicly advertized on the RFJ website. RFJ tools can be utilized in a variety of ways, without publicizing them on the website,” the US State Department’s official statement said.

However, a State Department official told the Associates Press that a move to not publicize the information was unusual. He added that the reward has been in place since January 7.

In April, a Libyan warlord and jihadist leader Sufyan bin Qumu suspected of being involved in a 2012 attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi was reportedly wounded and captured during a special operation in the city of Darna, which is known to be an Islamist hub.

The US has also reportedly filed charges over the attack against a Libyan militia chief, Ahmed Abu Khattala, in August, alongside an unknown number of other alleged attackers.

On 11 September 2012, four people, including the US ambassador to Libya at the time, another State Department worker and two ex-Navy Seals, were killed in the attack on the diplomatic post.

The Obama administration has come under fire following the deadly assault over allegedly downplaying the scale of the attack and the low level of security at American diplomatic posts in hot spots.

Graham to block picks over Benghazi

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he will hold up “every appointment” in the Senate until more questions are answered on Benghazi.

“I’m going to block every appointment in the United States Senate until the survivors [of the attack in Benghazi] are being made available to the Congress,” Graham said on Fox News’s “Fox and Friends.” “I’m tired of hearing from people on TV and reading about stuff in books.”

Graham (R-S.C.), who also tweeted about wanting to talk to those survivors, said Congress needs to “up its game”. He called for a joint select committee and addressed House Republicans on their efforts to continue pressing the administration on Benghazi.

“If we don’t have a joint select committee to get out of this stove piping problem, we’re never going to get the truth,” Graham said.

“To my House colleagues, [Rep.] Darrell Issa has done great job. To Speaker [John] Boehner, please for God’s sakes, form a joint committee to get away from this blame game and find out exactly what happened,” Graham said.

Graham also said that he thinks information has been classified for “political reasons more than anything else” and that Congress will continue to push this issue.

“We’re just beginning on Benghazi,” the senator said. “And to the families, we’re not going to let this go.”

Hillary Clinton Continues Masking Truth About Benghazi

In response to Hillary Heckled: ‘Benghazi! Benghazi! You Let Them Die!’:

Clinton spoke over the man as he was led, shouting, out of the arena: “We have to be willing to come together as citizens to focus on the kind of future we want, which doesn’t include yelling. It includes sitting down and talking with one another.”

Isn’t that what Americans want from Hillary and her peeps, to sit and  talk with one another? Clinton and the Obama administration have not be forthright with the American people, as they double up  their efforts to mask the truth behind what really happened in Benghazi.

If Clinton were to divulge the whole truth about what really happened in Benghazi, her political career would be finish. That my friend is the reason why she won’t fess up.
